Kanye West: Beck should give award to Beyonce

Kanye West insists Beck should have given his Grammy Award to Beyonce.

The outspoken rapper stormed the stage when the ‘Devil’s Haircut’ hitmaker picked up the Album of the Year prize for ‘Morning Phase’ at last night’s (02.08.15) ceremony and though it had been assumed he was poking fun at the infamous night he interrupted Taylor Swift’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) acceptance speech when she triumphed over Beyonce in 2009, he insists he was serious and his ‘Drunk in Love’ singer friend’s snub was like being ”smacked in the face”.

Kanye – who turned and walked off stage without interrupting Beck – told E! News afterwards:

”I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce.

”Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration. And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyonce album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

And the 37-year-old rapper – who was accompanied to the ceremony at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre by wife Kim Kardashian West – admitted he terminated his protest early for the sake of his spouse and their 19-month-old daughter North.

He explained: ”I got my wife, I got my daughter, and I got my clothing line, so I’m not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk — but I am here to fight for creativity.

”That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight. But you all know when it meant when ‘Ye walked on that stage.”

Chris Brown crashes car

Chris Brown blames the paparazzi for causing him to crash his car.

The ‘Turn Up The Music’ singer – who was recently accused of faking his court-ordered community service records as part of his five year probation for beating his girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 – claims he was cut off by "aggressive" photographers leading him to crash and "total" his black Porsche in Los Angeles on Saturday (02.09.13).

A spokesperson for the 23-year-old star, who is attending the Grammy Awards with the ‘Diamonds’ singer, 24, tonight (02.10.13), told gossip website TMZ.com: "The occupants jumped out, with cameras, and aggressively approached his vehicle. In an effort to remove himself from the situation, he began to back down an alley at which point his was cut off by two additional vehicles.

"Chris’ vehicle was totaled due to this aggressive pursuit by the paparazzi. He is okay."

A spokesperson for the Beverly Hills Police department confirmed that Chris crashed into a wall, saying: "On February 9, 2013 at approximately 12:03pm, entertainer Chris Brown was involved in a solo, non-injury traffic collision in the 600 Block Bedford Drive/Camden Drive alley. Mr. Brown was the driver of the vehicle and collided with a wall. Brown stated that he was being chased by paparazzi causing him to lose control of his vehicle. Brown’s Black Porsche was towed from the scene at his request."

Chris said a day in his shoes is like "a day in hell" during a meltdown on Instagram earlier this week.

He wrote: "I’m wise I can handle the hate but enough is enough yo!!

"Just when everything seems to be going good, some new s**t happens. A day in my shoes is a day in hell, believe it or not! (sic)"

The R&B star was not specific about what is bothering him, but if the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s allegations of fabricating his community service are upheld, his probation could be revoked.

Jennifer Hudson leads Grammy tributes to Whitney

Jennifer Hudson led tributes to Whitney Houston at the Grammy awards last night (12.02.12).

The 30-year-old singer gave a simple but moving rendition of one of Whitney’s biggest hits, ‘I Will Always Love You’, at the ceremony, while many other stars paid tribute after the discovery of the singer’s body at the Beverly Hilton hotel. No official cause of death has so far been given.

Chaka Khan – who Whitney had sang backing vocals for at the beginning of her career – had also been set to join Jennifer on stage for her performance, but pulled out to grieve privately.

She tweeted: "As I grieve the loss of my friend and ‘little sister,’ I don’t feel it appropriate to perform at this time. Continue to pray for the family."

Host LL Cool J explained to the crowd how the show’s organisers had decided how to pay tribute to Whitney, saying: "We were up all night, and we just wanted to figure out and show Whitney Houston the love, the appreciation, the love, the respect she deserves based on her as a human being and the career that she had and give her that love and make sure that people know we care."

The awards themselves were dominated by Adele, who took home six awards including the coveted Album of the Year for ’21’.

Upon collecting the trophy, she said: "I just first want to say ‘Mum, girl did good. It’s been the most life-changing year."

Elsewhere rock band Foo Fighters picked up five trophies, including Best Rock Performance for their track ‘Walk’.

Singer Dave Grohl said: "This is a great honour because this record was a special record for our band. Rather than go to the best studio, we made this one in my garage with some microphones and a tape machine.

"It shows that the human element of making music is what’s most important."

Kanye West had the most nominations of any artists ahead of the ceremony – which was held at Los Angeles’ Staples Center – with seven, and won four including Best Rap Album for ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, and Best Rap Performance for his duet ‘Otis’ with Jay-Z from their ‘Watch the Throne’ album.

Chris Brown to perform at Grammys

Chris Brown is set to perform at the Grammy Awards.

The ‘Forever’ singer is believed to be making a return to the show, three years after he was arrested for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party in February 2009.

He has not been officially announced as a performer at the ceremony, which takes place on Sunday (12.02.12), but if he does, he will be taking to the same stage as his ex.

Chris’ name was brought into disrepute after the attack – for which he is still serving five years probation – but he has since done much to turn his career around.

He is nominated for three awards at the Grammys 2012, including Best R&B Album for ‘F.A.M.E’.

Chris has admitted the LP marked a change in people’s attitudes toward him, saying: "They wanna let me back in the door. The last two years, everybody dissed me. But my fans were so dedicated. The way I look at it is, you can’t walk around mad, because then you just prove everybody right that you’re an angry person."

In February 2011, a judge eased a restraining order Rihanna had against Chris, modifying it from requiring him to stay only 10 yards away from her rather than 50, which meant they could be at the same award shows as each other.

Last year, Rihanna also said she is still supportive of Chris’ career.

She said: "I would never wish anything horrible for him. It was too much anger.

"It’s incredible to see how he pulled out the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know? I really like the music he’s putting out. I’m a fan of his stuff. I’ve always been a fan."

The Grammy Awards 2012 is being held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Muse to perform at Grammys

With the number of performances scheduled for the 2011 Grammy Awards, it’s no surprise that they keep the thank you speeches short. It’s just been announced that the English rock trio, Muse, will be joining the ever-growing star-studded roster of Grammy performers.

Last November, Muse took home an American Music Award for Favorite Artist in the Alternative Rock Music Category.

In December, the group was nominated for three Grammy Awards:  Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their song Resistance; Best Rock Song – (Resistance), and Best Rock Album: (The Resistance).

Based on U.S. airplay and sales, Muse was named the Billboard Alternative and Rock artist for 2010. Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy has been dating actress Kate Hudson since spring 2010, and this month it was announced that she is pregnant with his child.

The alternative rock band will be joining Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem, Cee Lo Green, Miranda Lambert, Justin Bieber, B.o.B., Lady Antebellum, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe. It’s rumoured that Justin Bieber may perform alongside his mentor, Usher, and the young actor Jaden Smith.

The awards will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
