Brazil offers a huge mural to Lewis Hamilton

The famous muralist/street artist who painted Ayrton Senna on a building, Eduardo Kobra, has also paid tribute to Sir Lewis Hamilton with a masterpiece similar to Prince Senna’s.

Last Thursday, Kobra inaugurated his mural in honor of the British driver, and it can be seen on a huge wall of the Lasar Segall public school in Vila Mariana.

The man who has seven championships to his credit was on hand to autograph the huge painting in his likeness.

Hamilton also recently became an official honorary citizen of Brazil!

Lewis is therefore British by birth and Brazilian at heart, even if he has often been a victim of racism (in Brazil), including by a former Formula 1 driver!

The number 44 had also unveiled during the event the design of the special helmet he wore this weekend during the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo (Brazil) and this one is, of course, in the Brazilian colors.

All this proves how passionate he is about this country!

ATV accident in Hamilton, Ont. kills 2 children

Two children have died after an ATV drove into a pond west of Miles Road in the south end of Hamilton, Ont. Shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday evening, Hamilton police responded to a call about a submerged ATV with children trapped inside.

According to police, a 35-year-old Hamilton man was driving through a field with his eight-year-old daughter and six-year-old son in a side-by-side ATV—a four-wheeled all-terrain vehicle enclosed with a metal roll cage—when the vehicle entered a pond.

Police say the pond was nine metres deep. The vehicle quickly sank to the bottom. The man driving was able to extricate himself from the enclosed vehicle but was unable to free his daughter or son.

With the help of a nearby neighbour, the man was able to call emergency services. Hamilton Fire, EMS, and multiple police departments, including the Hamilton Police Service’s Marine Unit and the Peel Regional Police Dive Team, arrived at the scene.

The children were located and removed from the pond. After attempting life-saving measures, emergency services took the children to McMaster Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Both children died later that night in the hospital.

“We are heartbroken over this tragic incident,” wrote Hamilton Police Service superintendent Treena MacSween on Twitter. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, [and] first responders during this difficult time.”

Police are still investigating how the ATV ended up in the pond but have ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor. According to police, the number of fatal traffic accidents has now risen to 20 in Hamilton this year.

Police have asked anyone with information about the accident to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-546-4753.

9 bike trails to explore in Ontario

Whether you want to climb over rocks and blast your way up hills, or just have a peaceful cycle through the countryside, there are bike trails for everyone all over the province—each offering a unique mix of scenery, history, and interesting spots to pull over and snap a picture. Here are some of the best bike trails in Ontario.

Hilton Falls Conservation Area, Halton Region

A waterfall, old mill ruins, and a peaceful reservoir all make for a fun day at Hilton Falls. The conservation area has three bike-only trails, including the 5-kilometre Bent Rim, which is described as a “rock garden” and suitable for advanced riders. If you’re looking for a leisurely pedal with the family, choose one of the mixed-use trails—the Red Oak trail around the reservoir is nice and quiet. Just make sure your bell is working and you keep your wits about you—you’ll be sharing this trail with other bikers, hikers, and horseback riders.

Cambridge/Paris/Brantford/Hamilton Rail Trail, Cambridge to Hamilton

Do a little, a lot, or all of this 77-kilometre trail network, which connects Cambridge to Hamilton through a network of four different rail trails. Cambridge to Paris takes you along the Grand River, boasting ruins and some spectacular views of the river. The SC Johnson Trail links Paris and Brantford, winding through farmland and rare prairie grasslands. Through Brantford, you’ll follow the Gordon Glaves Grand Valley River Loop to hook up with the Brantford-Hamilton rail trail, which will eventually take you through the Dundas Valley and into Hamilton. (Hint: If you go from Brantford to Hamilton, the last 20 per cent of the ride is downhill!)

Welland Canal Parkway, St. Catharines to Port Colborne

Smooth paths, 26,000-ton ships, and one big climb up the Niagara Escarpment are the hallmarks of this 45-kilometre trail along the Welland Canal. In Thorold, you’ll get to watch ships climb up or down the escarpment through a series of flight locks—the largest in the world! You can take a free ferry to explore the other side of the trail around the City of Welland, which then becomes a single trail again. Once you reach Port Colborne, relax and watch the ships at the Lock 8 dockside district.

Savanna Biking Trail, Grand Bend

Explore Pinery Provincial Park, which boasts the largest protected forest in southwestern Ontario, on this easy 14-kilometre loop that winds through woods and along a lightly-travelled road in the park. This trail is perfect for campers and cottage-goers who may not have packed their bikes—rentals are available across from the park store. And at the end of your ride? Check out Grand Bend’s glorious 50-kilometre Blue Flag beach and take in a famous Lake Huron sunset.

Hardwood Ski and Bike, Oro Station

Hardwood has pretty much everything for the very beginner to advanced mountain bikers: bike rentals, lessons and clinics, and a wide range of trails at many different difficulty levels. For those with a competitive edge, Hardwood also has a series of bike events throughout their summer season, culminating in their Halloween Hustle at the end of October.

Caledon Trailway, Caledon

One of the first rail trails, the Caledon Trailway is a 39-kilometre multi-use trail from Palgrave to Terra Cotta. A peaceful ride through farmland, villages, wetlands, and forests, the trail also offers ample opportunities to stop, explore a small town or two, or read about the history of the area through a series of interpretive signs. If you’re travelling during its running season, the South Simcoe Railway in Tottenham is worth a stop to take a different kind of ride.

Uxbridge to Lindsay to Peterborough, Kawarthas

Roughly 100 km, the rail trail from Uxbridge to Lindsay, and then from Lindsay to Peterborough has a little something for everyone: trestle bridges, an extensive stretch through peaceful wetlands, and, of course, close proximity to Kawartha Lakes Dairy stores. It’s worth taking a weekend to explore the whole stretch.

 Lynn Valley Trail, Norfolk County

This short, shady trail passes over several wooden footbridges on its 12-kilometre path connecting Port Dover and Simcoe. In Simcoe, you can choose to extend your ride by taking the Norfolk Sunrise Trail to Waterford or Delhi. In Port Dover, grab some Lake Erie perch or whitefish and watch the waves on the beach. Just don’t try this route on a Friday the 13th—Port Dover fills up with motorcyclists and traffic in the surrounding areas can be quite heavy.

Cataraqui Trail, Smith’s Falls to Strathcona

This 103-kilometre trail follows a CN Railway line, passing over a section of the Canadian Shield that links the Shield to the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Along with rock outcroppings, you’ll see farmland, wetlands, lakes and wooded areas and numerous types of wildlife, including turtles, herons, snakes and otters. While most of the surface of the trail is good, there can be rough sections. For that reason, it’s recommended that you use a hybrid or mountain bike to ride, rather than a road bike.

Nicole Scherzinger ‘definitely’ wants kids

Nicole Scherzinger ”definitely” wants to marry and have children.

The 36-year-old singer recently split from Lewis Hamilton after seven years on and off together but she is still keen to settle down and have a family one day.

Asked if she still wants marriage and kids, she said: ”Settling down is definitely in the picture for me but everything at the right time.”

Nicole recently completed a stint in West End musical ‘Cats’ and found playing Grizabella a ”cathartic” experience because she related so much to her feline alter-ego.

She said: ”I grew a lot as a person throughout. At times, I felt I was transforming into my character. The show is quite cathartic.

”It’s the story of a broken woman wanting forgiveness who needs a new start in life, then she ends up being the one chosen to be reborn again.

”Everyone goes through struggles. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to the song ‘Memory’ [from the show], especially anyone who’s been broken and is longing to find happiness again.

”I think we have to be vulnerable sometimes and let things go.”

Despite her successful singing career, Nicole is keen to branch out and do more acting.

She added to LOOK magazine: ”I want to continue to tour the world and then do some movie acting.

”I’d love to do a musical or comedy – I like to be a goofball. I’m a big fan of Judd Apatow’s movies.”

Nicole Scherzinger ‘devastated’ over split

Nicole Scherzinger is ”devastated” over her split from Lewis Hamilton.

The former Pussycat Doll – who recently called time on her seven year romance with the Formula 1 driver – admitted she has been left extremely upset by the break up but insists the decision to end the relationship was mutual.

She told The Sun newspaper: ”I’m devastated that it didn’t work out. It was the hardest decision we had to make, but we made it together.

”I love Lewis and I know he loves me.

”We wish nothing but happiness and the very best for one another. I’m trying to stay strong in my faith right now.”

The 36-year-old singer and Lewis, 30, are believed to have had a series of rows over the festive period with one resulting in the racing driver being chucked out of the London apartment owned by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber where Nicole has been staying for the duration of her stint in the West End’s revival of ‘Cats’.

A source explained: ”Nicole had enough and wanted Lewis to go, but he wasn’t prepared to so started shouting, demanding she opened up.

”A staff member at the building was concerned about the noise so told them to sort things out.”

The pair’s hectic schedules are said to have been at the heart of the split.

The couple had been spending less and less time together after Lewis – who bagged his second F1 championship last year – revealed plans to go for a third and Nicole joined the London-based production.

The source explained: ”Yes there were fights all the time, but a lot of that simply came from the huge issues caused by being in a long-distance relationship.

”It became impossible for them to balance their work commitments.”

Nicole Scherzinger’s bulimia battle almost destroyed her

Nicole Scherzinger admits her eight-year battle with bulimia almost ruined her life.

The former Pussycat Doll, 36, went to extreme lengths to stay slim, but it wasn’t until she collapsed in her hotel room that she decided to kick the eating disorder that had ruled her body and mind for almost a decade.

Speaking in the August issue of the UK’s Cosmopolitan magazine, she said: ”I had started losing my voice, I couldn’t sing at shows, and then I remember my manager finding me passed out on the floor in Malta or in the south of France. I thought, ‘I’m going to lose everything I love if I don’t love myself.’ ”

However, the brunette beauty, who went public with her eating disorder in 2012, claims beating the illness was a hard process because it had become like a ”drug” to her.

She explained: ”It is such a horrible, paralyzing disease and it was such a dark time for me. I didn’t think anyone knew in my group or in my family because I hid it that well, I was so ashamed.

”I knew it wasn’t normal or healthy because I was hurting myself through this cycle of disordered eating. It was my drug, my addiction. It’s an endless vicious cycle.”

Nicole is now living a healthy lifestyle and credits her boyfriend Lewis Hamilton, whom she has dated on/off since 2007, for putting the light back into her life.

She said: ”Well, it’s something crazy romantic. Relationships are hard and having to hold a long-distance relationship is even harder … But I’m good and I’m happy.”

Nicole Scherzinger was nervous meeting Pope

Nicole Scherzinger was ”nervous” when she met Pope Francis.

The ‘Your Love’ singer went on a romantic trip to Italy with boyfriend Lewis Hamilton recently and was lucky enough to meet with the head of the Catholic church in the Vatican City but admits she found it difficult to work out what he was saying.

She told the new issue of HELLO! Magazine: ”That was emotional for me because my grandfather is a priest. And even though I had no idea what he was saying, it was beautiful. It was like a song.

”I think Pope Francis is a pretty special Pope. To have been able to just meet him? Wow. I got so nervous.”

The 35-year-old beauty, who reconciled with racing driver Lewis following a split in July, has had an on/off relationship with the hunk for six years but insists she’s now in a great place now.

She said: ”What I’m going through right now is about, ‘Don’t hold back anything and don’t let anybody steal your happiness. Don’t jeopardize or compromise yourself. Just jump and go for it’.”

Meanwhile, the star revealed she also writes life affirmations for herself and puts them around her home.

She said: ”I forget everything, [so] I write down little mantras to myself.

”And I don’t know if it’s because of the Pope, but I’m finding that I’m gravitating more towards peace.”
