Harry Potter play to open in the West End

A new Harry Potter play is opening in the West End.

The stage show, called ‘Harry Potter and The Cursed Child’, will debut at the Palace Theatre in the heart of London in summer 2016 with tickets set to go on sale this autumn.

The show will follow the lives of the boy wizard’s doomed parents, Lily and James Potter, and their death at the hands of Lord Voldermort, which results in a baby Harry being sent to live with Lily’s cruel sister Petunia Dursley, her husband Vernon and their bullying son Dudley.

The play has been penned by Potter author J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, who will also be directing the show.

While the cast is yet to be announced, producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender are said to be on the lookout for the leads and informal auditions are currently being held, reports the Daily Mail newspaper.

The 49-year-old writer took to her Twitter to announce the news but refused to reveal too much about the play for fear of spoiling the story.

She tweeted: ”I’m very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the #CursedChild will be opening in London next year.

”It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. #CursedChild

”I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans. #CursedChild

”However, I can say that it is not a prequel! #CursedChild. (sic)”

Rowling also revealed the reason behind her decision to add to Harry’s story in a play format instead of releasing a new novel.

She explained: ”To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question – why isn’t #CursedChild a new novel? – I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story. #CursedChild

”I’ve had countless offers to extend Harry’s story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team! #CursedChild

”It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry’s story. #CursedChild. (sic)”

Daniel Radcliffe: I’m sexier than Harry Potter

Daniel Radcliffe insists he’s ”sexier” than Harry Potter.

The 25-year-old actor – who shot to fame playing the boy wizard in the movie adaptations of J.K. Rowling’s novels – doesn’t understand why people were ”surprised” when he was cast as the romantic lead in ‘What If?’ because there’s a lot more to him than his magic alter-ego.

He told Marie Claire magazine: ”Can you tell me why people are surprised?

”You saw me growing up like a f***ing boy in a school robe. Of course there’s a sexier side to me than that.”

Daniel is dating his ‘Kill Your Darlings’ co-star Erin Darke and admits he likes to plan romantic gestures – though he sometimes ruins the element of surprise.

He said: ”I was going to fly to New York to surprise her once, but then I kind of ruined my own surprise the night before because I was on the phone to her and she’d had a terrible day and was in a bad mood and I wanted to make it all go away.

”I just went, ‘Guess what? I’m going to be there tomorrow, we’re going to see each other’ ”

The ‘Horns’ star is wary of who he allows to get close to him and isn’t afraid to stand up for himself.

He said: ”I have a finely tuned bulls**t censor for when people are around for the wrong reason.

”I am polite but I also don’t take s**t. I’ve been brought up to stand up for myself. If someone is being a d**k, then it’s easy for me to call that out.”

J.K. Rowling unsure about Harry Potter ending

J.K. Rowling isn’t sure she ended ‘Harry Potter’ in the right way.

The author concluded her hugely successful series of books about the boy wizard with his best friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley married – which upset many fans who thought Harry should have got with Hermione – and now she’s not sure if that was the right decision.

She told Wonderland magazine: ”For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.

”I know, I’m sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility.

”Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

The ‘Harry Potter’ novels were made into a hugely successful series of films starring Daniel Radcliffe as the boy Wizard, Rupert Grint as Ron and Emma Watson as Hermione, and the latter echoes Rowling’s thoughts.

She said: ”I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.”

Daniel Radcliffe ‘could return’ as Harry Potter

Daniel Radcliffe is open to reprising his role as Harry Potter.

The 24-year-old actor who was catapulted to the spotlight for his role as the beloved wizard boy in the adaptation of J. K. Rowling’s popular children’s book is not going to rule out a spot in the author’s highly anticipated film titled ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, which is an original story based on the adventures of Newt Scamander.

Daniel told hollywoodreporter.com: ”He [Harry] could return if time travel rears its head again. I’ll be intrigued to see what she does.”

The star insists that he doesn’t know what the author’s plans for the movie are but is eager to find out what more about the film which J. K. Rowling has previously described as ”neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.”

He said: ”I don’t think I’m going to be coming back … we can’t be doing these characters when we’re 40, so there has to be a line drawn.

”Because I never know what Jo [Rowling] is going to write, but at the moment I’m in the same position that everyone else is in — waiting to hear what information is coming out because I don’t know anything about these new films.”

The best-selling author is making her screenwriting debut with a series of movies loosely based on her world-famous franchise about the teenage wizard and his battle against the Dark Lord.

She previously said: ”The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

Daniel Radcliffe filmed Harry Potter scenes whilst drunk

Daniel Radcliffe filmed scenes for ‘Harry Potter’ whilst drunk.

The 22-year-old actor – who is now teetotal – admits that he used to turn up for work on the boy-wizard franchise still feeling the effects of the night before.

He said: "I don’t want to go into details but I drank a lot and it was daily – I mean nightly. I can honestly say I never drank at work on ‘Harry Potter’. I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work.

"I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone. Dead behind the eyes."

Daniel – who gave up drinking for good when he was just 21-years-old – explains that he decided to part ways with alcohol because he did not like the person that he was becoming.

He told the new edition of heat magazine: "I loved the fact I suddenly could talk to people and feel so entertaining and so interesting. But after a while, you’re living under such a cloud of shame about what you’ve done and the dread of who you might see, what you might have said to them, what you might have done with them.

"You either have to change something or give into that shame and I wasn’t prepared to do that at 21."

Harry Potter coming to Hollywood

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – a popular tourist attraction which debuted in Orlando in June 2010 – is coming to Universal Studios Hollywood.

Yesterday (December 6), Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal Parks and Resorts also announced plans to expand the existing Harry Potter attraction at Universal Orlando Resort.

With Hogwarts castle as the centerpiece, the family-themed attraction brings the stories of Harry Potter to life while remaining faithful to the visual landscape of the films.

Based on the global publishing and film phenomenon about a boy wizard named Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling is the British author of seven books, translated into more than 70 languages, and adapted into one of the most successful film series of all time.

“I am delighted that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been so popular with fans since the opening in Orlando last year and I am sure that the teams at Universal and Warner Bros. will bring their expertise and attention to detail to Hollywood to make this new experience equally as exciting,” said Rowling.

In early 2012, a Harry Potter-themed studio tour will open at Warner Bros’ Leavesden Studios in London, U.K., where the movies were actually made.

Go behind the magic on Harry Potter studio tour

With the books and movies of the Harry Potter series now finished, the Warner Brothers Studios Leavesden in the U.K. is preparing to open a very special studio tour where fans will be able to actually examine the amazing sets and special effects created for the eight films, reports The Daily Mirror.

Set to open next spring, the studio tour will incorporate 14,000 square meters of sets and exhibits, and be able to accommodate up to 5,000 visitors a day, who will finally get a chance to see the magical world up close.

During the tour, guests will be able to wander through familiar settings like the Hogwarts Great Hall, where 300 gold-plated place settings will be laid out over the four house tables. To make the wooden tables look more authentic, the young actors who portrayed the school’s students were actually encouraged to carve their initials into the dark surface.

Other stops include the Gryffindor common room, where Harry and his friends spent their free time, and the boys’ dormitory, where they slept. Special effects experts will also make it possible to recreate some of the film’s visual magic, such as self-scrubbing pots in the Weasley kitchen. Terrifying creatures like Aragog, the giant spider, and a 40 foot dragon, will also be brought back to life.

Advance ticket sales begin on October 13, with the first tours available in spring 2012.

Harry Potter UK film studio tour starts next year

Although the Harry Potter book series and film franchise may have come to an end, fans will soon be able to experience first hand what it’s like to be a wizard – or at least what it’s like to play one on the big screen.

The Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden, which has housed the film production since the series began, will open to the public in 2012, offering tours of the film sets, reports the Daily Mail.

Visitors will get to see iconic sets like the Great Hall – a massive dining room where students take their meals – Headmaster Albus Dumbledore’s office, and the Gryffindor common room.

"The sets all have tiny little details that you may not always notice in the films but when you actually walk through them, you can see all the work that’s gone into it. It’s really amazing," explained Rupert Grint, who plays Ron Weasley in the films.

"It was such a magical place to grow up. People will be amazed to see the incredible environment we’ve worked in all these years," noted Daniel Radcliff who plays the titular main character.

Many of the film’s famous animatronics – such as Buckbeak the hippogriff, Aragog the acromantula, Fawkes the phoenix and even the deadly Basilisk that threatened the school in the second film – will also be on display.

Tickets cost about $45 for adults and $35 dollars for children and will be available for purchase in October.

UK museum is last stop for Harry Potter train

With the Harry Potter finale now in theaters, all of its stars are turning their attention to their post-Potter careers – including the Olton Hall steam engine that doubled for the iconic Hogwarts Express, and is now headed to York’s National Railway Museum in the U.K., reports the Daily Mail.

The train was on display at the York museum once before, but now it looks like it will be going on permanent display, sure to draw Potter fans from around the globe.

Each year in J.K. Rowling’s famed children’s novels, the gleaming Hogwarts Express was responsible for picking up the young witches and wizards at Platform 9 3/4 at London’s King’s Cross station and transporting them to the wonders of Hogwarts School.

In the movies, the role of the Hogwarts Express went to the Olton Hall number 5972. The engine was built in the English town of Swindon in 1937. Retired from service in 1963, the classic steam engine was destined for the scrap heap until it was rescued from the junkyard in 1981. In 1997, it was painted dark red and given a makeover into the Hogwarts Express, serving faithfully in the eight Harry Potter films over the years.
