Sutter credits 1 player for keeping the Flames’ playoff hopes alive.

The Calgary Flames are barely clinging onto their playoff lives with the team 2 points out of a playoff spot with only 6 games remaining on the regular season schedule, but they are still in the hunt.

That came in large part thanks to a huge comeback win for the Flames on Friday night when they overcame a third period deficit for the first time all season long, after previously going 0-18-3 when trailing after 2 during the regular season this year.

Following the game Darryl Sutter, the usually reserved head coach of the Calgary Flames, had a ton of praise for one of his players in particular when he was asked about the play of Tyler Toffoli. Toffoli, who had a major impact in the comeback with a pair of goals against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night, was cited by Sutter as the only reason the team has remained competitive following the departure of 2 of the team’s top stars in Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk last summer.

“What’s he got? 33? Take those two 40s out (Gaudreau and Tkachuk) and that’s exactly why we’re still in it, those guys who are scoring big goals for us,” said Sutter when asked about Toffoli.

Toffoli has quickly endeared himself to fans in Calgary and his comments following the comeback on Friday night will no doubt only add to that. Toffoli expressed how desperately he wanted the comeback win, a sentiment that was no doubt echoed by every single Flames fan that tuned in for last night’s game.

“It’s about time we came back and won a game,” admitted Toffoli. “We needed it, obviously feels good.”

Terrible news for injured NHL veteran Derick Brassard.

On Thursday night, longtime National Hockey League veteran Derick Brassard suffered an ugly looking injury when he went down during a game between the Ottawa Senators and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Brassard appeared to suffer a nasty ankle injury as his foot and ankle bent back the wrong way during a scoring chance for the veteran forward, and unfortunately the updates on his status may be even worse than the initial images of the incident would have led you to believe.

On Saturday, Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch was able to confirm that Brassard would not play again this season due to the serious ankle injury he suffered, but even worse than that the insider raised the possibility of this being a career-ending type of injury for Brassard.

From Garrioch:

In the case of the 35-year-old Brassard, not only may his season be over, but there’s also a chance that could have been the final shift of his National Hockey League career.

Brassard has played all across the National Hockey League during his career including stints with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, New York Islanders, Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, and of course the aforementioned Ottawa Senators. As a result he has amassed a huge following of fans from around the league, all of whom will no doubt be devastated by this latest update on the health of the 35 year old veteran centerman.

Update: Brassard has now undergone surgery and is confirmed to have broken his fibula.

At this point we can only hope for the best, and hopefully that means we will get to see Brassard healthy once again and back playing the sport that he loves.

Canadiens announce a controversial change to their uniform!

The Montreal Canadiens have their fans in an uproar this morning, although you have to wonder if this may all be an elaborate prank on that very same fan base.

On Saturday morning, the Habs announced through their official social media accounts that they would be making a drastic change to their uniforms for the remainder of the 2022-23 National Hockey League regular season. In somewhat of a stange announcement the Canadiens announced that they will be switching to their powder blue “Reverse Retro” jerseys for the remainder of the season, citing the fact that they haven’t lost a game since February 11th while wearing those jerseys.

The reactions to the announcement have been mixed, with some fans expressing pure outrage while others being quick to wonder about the timing of this announcement. It is of course April 1st, otherwise known as April Fools, which could mean that this is just the Canadiens’ way of having a little fun with what is their passionate fan base.

Genuine announcement or elaborate charade? You decide and let us know in the comments below.
