Chris Pine as the New Jack Ryan

After learning yesterday (October 13) that Pine was in talks to star in The Art of Making Money, the actor added a new project onto his schedule, reports Variety.

If a contract is signed with Paramount Pictures, Pine would be the fourth actor to play the hero of Tom Clancy’s novels, CIA analyst Jack Ryan.

Since the film is still in development, no details have been revealed about the story.

In the past, Alec Baldwin played Jack Ryan in 1990’s The Hunt for Red October, Harrison Ford starred as the character in 1992’s Patriot Games and 1994’s Clear and Present Danger, and Ben Affleck was the last to take on the role in The Sum of All Fears (2002).

In the meantime, Chris Pine is filming Unstoppable with Denzel Washington. The film is headed for theatres on November 12, 2010.

Harrison Ford May Return to Jack Ryan Role

Harrison Ford’s career seems to have jump-started following the success of the fourth Indiana Jones film.  The actor is now considering an opportunity to play Jack Ryan for the third time under the direction of Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3).

Ford played Jack Ryan, a CIA agent in the 1992 film Patriot Games and also in the film Clear and Present Danger in 1994.  Both films were based on novels by Tom Clancy.

Paramount Studios was considering actor Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) to play in the third installment of the film franchise, but after the success of the latest Indiana Jones film, Harrison Ford has caught the attention of studio heads.  Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull earned more than $100 million at American box offices on its opening weekend.

Harrison Ford can next be seen in the film Crossing Over with Sean Penn.  The film hits theatres on August 22.

Jack Ryan Makes a Comeback to the Big Screen

Paramount Pictures is in negotiations with Sam Raimi to spearhead a franchise featuring Jack Ryan, the famous CIA analyst created by writer Tom Clancy.

Raimi will be developing and directing a series of movies produced by Josh Donen, his partner at Buckaroo Entertainment and Lorenzo diBonaventura. Paramount Pictures would like to release the first installment in 2010.

Alec Baldwin was the first actor to play Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October in 1990.  He was also played by Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck did the most recent portrayal of the agent in The Sum of All Fears. All of these films were box-office smashes.

The studios would like to develop several films, and show Jack Ryan confronted with a global threat at the beginning of his career.

Writer Tom Clancy is writing another novel with the celebrity CIA analyst.  Raimi, who is a big fan of Jack Ryan, will start working on this project after completing the horror film, Drag Me To Hell.
