Jada Pinkett-Smith can’t stop: “Will is still my guy!”

Jada calls the Oscar incident “The holy joke” and “The holy slap”.

During a promotional tour for her memoirs, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who is already making headlines by claiming that she and Will have been separated for seven years, gave some strange explanations on the subject during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Questioned by Stephen Colbert (from a distance, since Colbert is on COVID protocol) Jada was keen to correct her comments about her relationship with her husband, Will Smith, revealing a relationship perhaps more complex than first imagined when she first revealed it.

“For my own healing I just call us life partners, but he’s my dude,” she said.

Then, Jada says she’s very surprised that this is getting so much attention, and clarifies why she and Will Smith are separated… but together.

“I came into my mariage with Will so young and so all of the idealism that I had about husband and mariage […],” she adds.

The star claims that it was after years of therapy that she questioned her relationship, and the fact that at 26, she felt, it was very young to get married:

“Learning to break down [through therapy] all of those romanticized fantasies that I came into this marriage with and really learning to have acceptance for the reality of what it is.”

When asked by Colbert why they had waited until now to announce their separation, Jada said that before then, she simply wasn’t ready to do so:

“I wasn’t ready. Look, consciously uncoupling is a very difficult thing, right? Do I really want to be divorced, do I want to separated? Then the Oscar cames and it’s crazy like how intense event can brings people together because once the Oscars happened Will and I got closer.”

The intense events of the Oscars made things a little clearer for Jada, who says the events of the Oscars were a real eye-opener for her. In fact, she now calls Chris Rock’s joke about her hair “The holy joke” and the slap Will gave Rock “The holy slap”!

“I didn’t go at the Oscars neccessarly as Will’s wife but when the event occurred, I knew in that moment that I wasn’t gonna leave his side, and I knew at that moment that I didn’t go to that theater as his wife but I was leaving as his wife and I was going to stand by his side no matter what.”

But what does Will think of all this?

Well…Will Smith seems to support Jada in everything she says, claiming that reading the book sort of woke him up.

The actor seems to feel intense compassion for his wife, as he wrote her a letter, excerpts of which were revealed during an interview with Jada on On Purpose with Jay Shetty.

“You are one of one, a rare blend of power and delicate sensitivity. I know it wasn’t easy to excavate the depths in that way. I applaud and honor you. If I had read this book 30 years ago, I definitely would have hugged you more.”

Yup, in a surprising revelation, Jada claims that the couple has been secretly separated since 2016!

So Jada and Will were no longer a couple when the latter slapped Chris Rock in the face at the infamous Oscars of March 2022, if Pinkett’s words are to be believed. Now, that may reveal a lot about Will Smith’s true motivations for acting this way towards the host at the Oscars.

“I thought it was a skit,” Jada also explained about her initial reaction at the Oscars, quickly realizing it was real when Will returned to sit beside her.

At the time, there was no sign of their separation, as Will Smith had even shouted at Chris Rock after a bad joke about Jada’s shaved head: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth”, a now infamous line that shall live forever.

Jada Pinkett-Smith is currently on a promotional tour for the release of her memoirs, Worthy, available from October 17.
