Travolta Extortion Suspect Talks

Wilchcombe, who is the former Minister of Tourism in the Bahamas, was arrested and released on Friday (January 23) to be questioned about extortion attempts against the family of John Travolta, reports PerezHilton.com.

John Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, have been threatened with extortion following the death of their son, Jett.  A large sum of money was requested from the family in order to keep photographs of the dead boy from being leaked to the public.  The pictures were of Jett in the ambulance on his way to the hospital.

Today, Wilchcombe says that he is not guilty of extortion attempts, and added that he was simply trying to warn the Travoltas of others who may try to publish the photos.  Former member of parliament, Pleasant Bridgewater, is also being questioned in the case.

John Travolta’s Extortion Threat

While John Travolta and Kelly Preston are mourning the loss of their son Jett, who died during their vacation in the Bahamas earlier this month, Bahamian police have opened up an investigation on an extortion attempt against the family.

The local paper, The Tribune, indicated that the police interrogated two people on Monday (January 19), concerning an extortion plot against the Travoltas in hopes of cashing in on the tragedy. Details on the case have not been disclosed.

The actor’s attorneys, Mike Ossi and Howard Butler, were quick to issue a statement, saying, “Regrettably in a time of such terrible grief, there are often a few individuals who attempt to make false claims in hopes of making millions of dollars.  We will never let that happen.”

The attorneys added that they have confidence in the police and government of the Bahamas.

Tom Cruise in Support of the Travoltas

Cruise, who is a friend of the Travoltas, could not find the words to express how he felt about the death of young Jett Travolta, 16.

During his appearance, Cruise said, "I just don’t have the words for it. It’s just horrific."

"I remember Jett when he was born. I saw him when he was just a few months old and John just adored him, and both of his children, and Kelly," he recounted.

Regarding speculations that John Travolta didn’t seek the right care for his son due to his religious beliefs, Cruise said the rumours are false.

He added that religion should not interfere with medical care and that Scientology does not prevent medical intervention.

Lisa Marie Presley Defends the Travoltas

The daughter of Elvis Presley and member of the Church of Scientology, is speaking out against members of the media who have suggested that the religion is partly to blame for the death of John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s son.

On her MySpace page, Presley said that it’s an incorrect myth that Scientology doesn’t believe in traditional medicine, and that Travolta refused to give his son treatments for seizures because of his religion.  She wrote, "For the most part, people and the media have been very sympathetic and respectful, but there are those certain ones that want to use this horrible tragedy as an opportunity to once again, blame and or attack Scientology."

Presley, who is a good friend of the Travoltas, doesn’t understand how anyone can blame Jett’s parents.  She explained, "John and Kelly have done nothing but spend their lives and their time helping others, making people happy and making peoples lives better. Please let this family grieve in peace."

John Travolta Escapes from a Riot

Producer Luc Besson announced that the filming of From Paris With Love with John Travolta was cancelled following a riot.

From Sunday night until Monday, ten production vehicles were set on fire by local disgruntled workers.

Filming, which was set in the Montfermeil region of France, must take place elsewhere. Besson cited that there was a lack of security and filming under such conditions was impossible.

Therefore, John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be cutting their scheduled 11-week trip to France short.

The incident comes as a big disappointment, since many of the locals were to be casted as extras, generating jobs in the region.
