No Secret Marriage For Kanye West

A spokesperson for the 30-year-old star told Us Magazine that rumours of West marrying the designer in Europe are false.

According to a source close to the Grammy winner, West does plan to wed.  He wants to respect the wishes of his late mother, Donda, who had hoped that her son would make his relationship official.  West explained, “I’m just going to go and get married. I’m not going to make a big deal out of it.”

West and Phifer have been engaged since 2006, and plan to have an intimate ceremony away from the media spotlight.

Amy Winehouse Was the Big Winner

The 24-year-old star won in five out of the six categories in which she had nominations. She won for Best Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album (Back to Black), Record of the Year, Song of the Year (Rehab), and Best Pop Vocal Performance (Rehab).  The Grammy she did not win was for Album of the Year, which went to Herbie Hancock. Winehouse did not attend the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, but did perform via satellite from London.

The other big winner was Kanye West who won for Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album.

Many Canadian artists were honoured including Joni Mitchell, Michael Bublé and the Cirque du Soleil.

An Emotional Performance by Kanye West

Three months after the death of his mother, the rapper is planning a special performance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 10), reported People.  West, who tops the nominations for the event by competing in eight categories, has not been officially announced as one of the evening’s performers.

However, a source spotted West rehearsing his songs Stronger and Hey Mama at the Staples Center on Thursday (February 7). 

Donda West died of heart disease on November 10, just one day after undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Kanye West Announces Artists Touring With Him

West revealed the name of the artists that will be accompanying him on the road for his Glow in the Dark tour.  Billboard.com reported that the artists are Rihanna, N.E.R.D. with Pharrell Williams, as well as Lupe Fiasco. Rihanna and Lupe Fiasco launched new albums in 2007, and N.E.R.D. will be releasing their third album in 2008.

There as been no other information revealed about this tour.

The Cause of Death for Donda West

West had a heart attack right after undergoing plastic surgery.  The operation may have caused several secondary issues, confirmed the Los Angeles Coroner on Thursday (January 10).  The autopsy determined that the death was not a direct result of liposuction and breast reduction surgery.

The coroner said, "Multiple post-operative factors could have played a role in the death. The exact contribution of each factor could not be determined. There was no evidence of a surgical or anesthetic misadventure."

Donda West died on November 10 at the age of 58.  A relative falsely reported that her death was the result of errors made during her cosmetic surgery.

Kanye West has been struggling with the loss of his mother.  He broke into tears during a few of his concerts, where he dedicated his song Hey Mama to his late mother.

Grammy Nominees Announced

British singer Winehouse was nominated in six categories for the Grammy Awards, which will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10.  For the men, rapper Kanye West will compete in eight categories.

Among the suprises, four nominations went to Bruce Springsteen, who released his disc Magic last October.

Several Canadians are also getting attention.  Feist was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Vocal Performance for a Female Pop Artist.  Arcade Fire’s disc Neon Bible is up for Alternative Album of the Year, Michael Buble is also nominated for his song Everything.  Joni Mitchell is nominated in the Best Pop Instrumental Song for One Week Last Summer.

The Grammy Awards will be televised live on CBS.  Here is a complete list of the nominees for the 50th annual event:

New Version of the Album Thriller

Epic/Legacy Recordings will be launching a new version of the successful album Thriller, on February 12. Many artists such as Kanye West, Akon and will.i.am, will be singing the tracks on this album.

West will be singing Billie Jean, will.i.am will be singing The Girl is Mine and P.Y.T. There will also be a duet by Akon and will.i.am for the single Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.

There will be an unedited version of For All Time, a demo version of Billie Jean, as well as the singles Someone in the Dark and Carousel.

Thriller will also have a DVD with the videos for Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, as well as clips of Jackson who made an appearance on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, by NBC.

Kanye West Is Battling His Grief

According to 50 Cent, Kanye West must show courage and continue his European tour, despite the sudden death of his mother, Donda West, which occurred on November 10. 50 Cent, whose real name Curtis Jackson, believes that a return to the stage is the best way to alleviate the pain for his great rival.

 

He said, "That’s really an unfortunate situation and I hope he can work his way through it. If you’re active, you’ll find reasons to smile, reasons to be happy."

 

50 Cent is able to sympathize with the bereaved West, as a member of his group, G-Unit, lost his father during a recent tour.

 

West was in London when he learned of the death of his mother. The singer has chosen to honour his commitments and continue his European tour.

Kanye West’s House For Sale

The rapper’s property, which is on Crescent Drive in Beverly Hills, was described by a real estate agent as a rare offering.  The home features six bedrooms, four bathrooms and a detached garage.

A source said, "It’s a great location, but the building is pretty dated. It’s really just on the market for the land, so the buyer can tear down the house and build a new one."

Kanye West Does a Tribute to His Mother

Donda West’s funeral was held yesterday in Spencer and many celebrities such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Erykah Badu and Anita Baker, were present to support her son Kanye.

According to People, West broke down when he did a speech about his mother. He stated that he does not wish that she rests in peace, but that she rests in heaven. The rapper told the magazine that he did the speech because he knows it is what his mother would have wanted.

During the ceremony, Anita Baker sang the single Summertime, while John Legend played the piano. Donda was one of Baker’s fans.

Kanye West’s mother died on November 10 at the age of 58 after undergoing plastic surgery.
