Apple Original Films has picked up ‘Outcome,’ the dark comedy set to be directed by Jonah Hill, who co-wrote the project alongside Ezra Woods.
Actor Keanu Reeves, who is known for starring in hit movie series such as The Matrix and John Wick is in negotiations to star in the film alongside Hill, adding to the high-list talent set to take the stage.
Reeves will play Reef, “a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Hill finds himself in good company production-wise with the help of his partner Matt Dines and the company’s Ali Goodwin.
‘Outcome’ landing as an Apple Studios production marks an impressive run from Hill, who is also working with the company on a Grateful Dead biopic alongside the legendary Martin Scorsese. The biopic will see Hill produce and star while Scorsese directs alongside his film company, Sikelia Productions.
The deal also comes at a big time for Keanu Reeves, who is coming off starring in John Wick: Chapter 4, which opened to a franchise-best $73.5 million at the domestic box office.
For decades, the Toronto-raised actor has won the hearts of many for kindness, strong work ethic and varied career that includes big blockbusters, comedy, romance, video games and, even, reporting for the CBC.
His latest film, John Wick: Chapter 4, is arguably his best yet, delivering some of the most visceral, slick and well-shot action in recent memory. While Reeves is set to make an appearance in next year’s John Wick spin-off, the Ana de Armas-led The Ballerina, his future with the series beyond that remains in question.
For now, though, we can at least go back to his older work. So, if you want more Keanu in your life after Chapter 4, here’s where to watch a bunch of his most prominent movies in Canada (See here for a John Wick-specific round-up).
Bill & Ted trilogy
Reeves’ breakthrough role came as the titular Ted in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, a sci-fi comedy about two time-travelling dim-witted high school students. Alongside Alex Winter (Bill), Reeves would return for two sequels.
While it received mixed reviews upon its release in 2005, this DC Comics adaptation has become something of a cult film ever since. In it, Reeves stars as John Constantine, a cynical exorcist with the ability to travel between Earth and Hell. It’s worth noting that Reeves and original director Francis Lawrence have also been trying to get a sequel made.
Unfortunately, Constantine isn’t on any subscription streaming service, so you’ll have to rent or buy the film on PVOD platforms like iTunes and Google Play (starting at $4.99).
The Devil’s Advocate
This supernatural horror film stars Reeves as a lawyer who joins a major firm only to discover that its owner, played by Al Pacino, is actually the Devil.
Reeves’ directorial debut has him playing the antagonist in this story about a young martial artist in an underground fighting ring. Although it was a box office bomb, it did receive fairly positive reviews for its action.
Arguably Reeves’ most iconic role pre-Wick saw him kung fu his way through the digital world to save humanity from an AI.
Unfortunately, only 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections — which saw Reeves reunite with fellow Canadian Carrie-Anne Moss — is on a subscription streaming service: Crave. The original trilogy — The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions — are only available to rent or purchase on platforms like iTunes and Google Play, starting at $4.99.
Much Ado About Nothing
In Kenneth Branagh’s romantic comedy adaptation of the eponymous Shakespeare play, Reeves portrays Don John, the evil half-brother of Denzel Washington’s character, Don Pedro.
Stream Much Ado About Nothing on Hoopla (free with supported library cards) and Tubi (free with ads).
My Own Private Idaho
A smaller and more intimate movie than many younger audiences might expect from the John Wick star, My Own Private Idaho stars Reeves as Scott, a young man who travels with his best friend Mike (the late River Phoenix) to find the latter’s mother.
Stream My Own Private Idaho on Amazon Prime Video and Crave (Starz membership required for both).
Point Break
In this iconic 1991 crime action film, Reeves plays an undercover FBI agent tasked with investigating a group of bank robbers, leading him to develop a complex relationship with the ringleader (the late Patrick Swayze).
Sadly, Point Break isn’t on any subscription streaming service, so you’ll have to rent or buy the film on PVOD platforms like iTunes and Google Play (starting at $4.99).
Speed
Pop quiz, hotshot: which high-octane 1994 action movie stars Reeves as an LAPD officer who’s trying to save a bus that’s rigged with a bomb that will detonate if it goes below 50 mph (80km)? Speed, of course, which co-stars Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper. Fun fact: it was also written by Reeves’ fellow Torontonian, Graham Yost.
We might be a little biased here, but Reeves has arguably the best role in this animated “fourquel” as Duke Caboom, a larger-than-life Canadian daredevil toy.
Naturally, that only covers some of Reeves’ lengthy filmography and doesn’t include TV appearances or video game roles. On the latter front, he plays Johnny Silverhand in the massive RPG Cyberpunk 2077, a role he’s set to reprise in an expansion, Phantom Liberty, releasing later this year.
What are your favourite Keanu Reeves roles? Let us know in the comments.
For many, it was just about the perfect action movie, a culmination of nearly 10 years of top-notch work from director Chad Stahelski and Canadian star Keanu Reeves. However, the power duo haven’t yet committed to a fifth movie, so we may have to wait a while — or even forever — for more of our favourite hitman.
For now, though, there are always other action movies (to try) to fill that void. Here are a bunch:
Atomic Blonde
Helmed by original John Wick co-director David Leitch, Atomic Blonde follows an MI6 agent (Charlize Theron) who hunts down a priceless dossier amid the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Based on Robert Ludlum’s popular novels, the acclaimed Bourne action-thriller series stars Matt Damon as the eponymous CIA assassin.
All five movies — the four starring Damon (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum and Jason Bourne) and Jeremy Renner-led Legacy — are streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Crave and Netflix.
Bullet Train
Another post-Wick Leitch movie, Bullet Train sees a hitman named Ladybug (Brad Pitt) fight to survive other assassins on a Japanese train.
After Training Day, Antoine Fuqua and star Denzel Washington reunite for this series a former U.S. Marine turned DIA intelligence officer who begrudgingly gets back into action.
Chris Hemsworth teams up with Marvel stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave in this action-thriller about a black ops mercenary tasked with rescuing a crime lord’s son in India.
Stream Extraction on Netflix. Note that a sequel, simply titled Extraction 2, is set to premiere on June 16th, 2023.
Ip Man series
One of the biggest players in John Wick: Chapter 4, Caine, is played by legendary Hong Kong action star, Donnie Yen.
Of his many roles, Yen is best known for Ip Man, a series of martial arts films based on the Wing Chun master of the same name.
Arguably Reeves’ most iconic role pre-Wick saw him kung fu his way through the digital world to save humanity from an AI. Fun fact: Chad Stahelski was a stunt double for Reeves n the series, which no doubt helped paved the way for their killer collaborative efforts years later with John Wick.
Unfortunately, only 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections — which saw Reeves reunite with fellow Canadian Carrie-Anne Moss — is on a subscription streaming service: Crave. The original trilogy — The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions — are only available to rent or purchase on platforms like iTunes and Google Play, starting at $4.99 CAD.
Nobody
From Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick series, comes Nobody, which sees Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk play a former assassin who seeks revenge against the people who broke into his home. It’s worth noting that the movie was filmed in Winnipeg.
No list like this would be complete with Gareth Evans’ two The Raid movies, widely regarded to be some of the best modern action movies alongside the John Wick series.
The Indonesian movies star Iko Uwais as a special forces member deep in the Jakarta underworld.
The Raid can be streamed on Prime Video and Crave (Starz required for both), while The Raid 2 is available on Prime Video (base membership) and Crave (Starz required).
Taken series
The series that helped kick off Liam Neeson’s current long-running stint of action movies follows the international exploits of a retired CIA operative.
The iconic cinematic assassin, played by beloved Canadian actor Keanu Reeves, faces his deadliest challenge yet in John Wick: Chapter 4. With an ever-growing bounty on his head, Wick must fight to survive while embarking on a global journey to take down the High Table.
Chapter 4 was directed by Chad Stahelski (who helmed every movie in the series) and features returning stars Ian McShane (Winston), Laurence Fishburne (The Bowery King) and Lance Reddick (Charon). Joining the cast, meanwhile, are Hong Kong legend Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai), Bill Skarsgård (It series), and Reeves’ fellow Torontonian, Shamier Anderson (Wynonna Earp), among others.
Of course, it’s been a few years since John Wick: Chapter 3, so if you wanted to refresh yourself on the story beforehand — or simply watch Reeves kill hundreds of people in gloriously stylish action — you still have time.
Thankfully, it’s pretty easy to stream the trio of John Wick movies:
Keanu Reeves will star in a major series for the first time in his career called Devil in the White City.
The 57-year-old star will play the role of Daniel Burnham, a Chicago architect who has designed many famous buildings. His credits include the Flatiron Building in Manhattan, Union Station in Washington, DC, Selfridges in London and the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893.
The TV series is based on the book “documentary” The Devil in the White Cityby author Erik Larson and will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. It will be released in early 2024.
The actor who will take on the character of Holmes has not yet been named, but his announcement should not be long in coming, as filming should begin soon.
The series Devil in the White City will be presented on the platform hulu which is owned by The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, Comcast and WarnerMedia.
British Formula One managing director Ross Brawn bought the Honda team back in 2009, went on to rename it Brawn GP, and the team went on to win two championships.
Now, Disney+ is working on a documentary about F1 and Brawn, with everyone’s favourite senior citizen and the most humble guy in Hollywood, Canadian Keanu Reeves as the host.
According to the report, Reeves has already started conducting interviews for the role, with former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello seemingly on board. Further, Brawn himself is also reportedly “set to take part.”
Birmingham, England-based North One Television is reportedly producing the documentary, with an estimated release date for Fall 2023.
“We want to tell that amazing remarkable story [referencing the documentary],” said Reeves while talking to a journalist at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, U.K. . “There is so much to talk about. The world of Formula One was just extraordinary. I mean, it’s always extraordinary, but in that year with Brawn GP I think something really special happened.”
Reeves himself is a high-speed fanatic and owns several motorcycles. The Toronto-raised actor also owns a high-end custom American motorcycle company that he founded alongside Gard Hollinger.
In December, during an interview with The Verge, Canadian actor Keanu Reeves was laughing about NFTs and digital items as he thought they were “easily reproduced.”
Now, that’s changed, with Reeves and his partner Alexandra Grant joining Non-Fungible Labs and Fluf World as advisors for their Futureverse Foundation project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the foundation will help make the metaverse more accessible to those in disadvantaged backgrounds.
Grant, who is a well-known artist, will also work with Brooke Howard-Smith, co-founder of Non-Fungible Labs, to help transition artists to digital art and guide them on how to make their sellable NFTs.
Non-Fungible Labs have already pledged $250,000 USD (around $324,787 CAD), along with its first single donation of €100,000 EUR (about $136,707 CAD) to Nana Oforiatta Ayim, to help her efforts to curate the Ghanian Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale.

Following a tease earlier this week, Canadian actors Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss appeared at The Game Awards to formally unveil The Matrix Awakens.
Now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it’s a Matrix gaming experience that features highly photorealistic visuals produced entirely within Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. In it, Reeves and Moss reprise their respective Matrix roles of Neo and Trinity. The clip that we got showed Neo and Trinity shooting at enemies while driving.
While it’s not intended to be an actual full game for new-gen console owners to play, it does showcase the graphical potential of the Fortnite maker’s engine.
The Matrix Awakens was unveiled alongside a new look at The Matrix Resurrections, which releases exclusively in Canadian theatres on December 22nd. Check it out below:
