Muse make live return

Muse made their live return in London last night (30.09.12).

The ‘Survival’ trio closed the annual iTunes festival in spectacular fashion, treating fans to a selection of material from their new album ‘The 2nd Law’, as well as classic tracks from their back catalogue.

Although the smaller venue meant the group did away with their usual stunning laser show and complex stage setting, video screens running around the venue and frontman Matt Bellamy’s dazzling sparkling jacket meant there was still a visual spectacle accompanying the music.

The group opened their set with ‘Supremacy’, with Matt taking the opportunity to reveal one of his heroes was in the crowd.

He said after the song: "That last song was a little bit influenced by a certain Jimmy Page – who I believe is in the building."

While preview material has hinted at the trio going in a dub-step direction, Matt used the show to prove their experimentation isn’t new.

Introducing 2003 single ‘Time Is Running Out’, he quipped: "Listen to the dub-step bassline on this."

Standout tracks included ‘Uprising’, ‘Supermassive Black Hole’, ‘New Born’ and set-closer ‘Survival’.

Support for the evening came from up-and-coming singer Natalie Duncan, who performed a stripped-back set with no accompanying band to a great response from the assembled crowd.

Roger Waters to rebuild The Wall in North America next year

Roger Waters, co-founder and principal songwriter of progressive rock band Pink Floyd, has announced the return of the production of The Wall to North America in 2012.

The musician first reinvented the 1979 concept album’s stage production in 2010 utilizing modern day technological advances and special effects to create an elaborate aural and visual presentation for the rock opera about alienation and transformation.

The Wall Live has since played more than 120 shows around the world for more than 1.6 million fans making it one of the most successful tours of 2010 and 2011.

The 2012 tour will begin on May 1 in Houston, Texas, making a 36-show trek throughout North America, including several outdoor stadium performances with state-of-the-art modifications to transform the arena production for the huge outdoor event.

“Thirty years ago when I wrote ‘The Wall,’ I was a frightened young man,” Waters said. “In the intervening years it occurred to me that maybe the story of my fear and loss with its concomitant inevitable residue of ridicule, shame and punishment, provides an allegory for broader concerns: Nationalism, racism, sexism, religion, whatever! All these issues and ‘isms are driven by the same fears that drove my young life.”

The 88-minute DVD, filmed on March 5, 2010, in their hometown of Seattle, showcases the band’s biggest hits, introduces some of their newest songs, and features a guest appearance by multiple Grammy award-winner Alison Krauss.

Ann and Nancy Wilson formed Heart while they were living in British Columbia, Canada, and showed the world that women can rock as they stormed the charts in the 1970s with groundbreaking songs like Crazy On You, Barracuda, and Magic Man. Their string of hits continued in the decades that followed with songs like Alone, Never, and These Dreams.

Fans will be sure to enjoy the footage, which was shot with Red Cam HD, creating a beautiful resolution and a front-seat view.

Coming off their latest top 10 album and cross country tour of Canada, Heart announced on last month that they will be embarking on a 2011 summer tour co-headlining with Def Leppard.

Heart’s Red Velvet Car album debuted last year at number 10 on the U.S. Billboard 200.
