The Mandalorian Season 3 to premiere on Disney+ in March 2023

Lucasfilm has confirmed that the highly anticipated third season of The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ on March 1st, 2023.

The announcement came via the series’ official social media channels alongside a picture of the titular bounty hunter and Grogu, AKA Baby Yoda.

While the second season of The Mandalorian ended in December 2020, Mando and Grogu appeared in the spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett, which ran from December 2021 to February 2022. The first trailer for Season 3 dropped in September:

In Season 3, Mando and Grogu travel to Mandalore to confront Bo-Katan and the Mandalorians. Pedro Pascal stars as The Mandalorian, while Carl Weathers (Greef), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan) and Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) are also set to return.

Ahsoka, another The Mandalorian spin-off, is also set to premiere sometime in 2023. The series follows Rosario Dawson’s eponymous former Jedi, who previously appeared in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, in a story that picks up where the animated series Star Wars: Rebels left off.

PSA: Obi-Wan Kenobi will now hit Disney+ 3 hours early

In a surprise announcement, Lucasfilm has confirmed that its hotly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series will premiere tonight on Disney+ three hours ahead of schedule.

Now, the first two episodes of the show will land on the streaming service on Friday, May 27th at 12am ET/Thursday, May 26th at 9pm PT. Normally, Disney+ originals premiere at 3am ET/12am PT, which fans were especially frustrated with in the case of Obi-Wan Kenobi since it’s getting a special two-episode premiere.

After this, the remaining four episodes will release once per week on Wednesdays. It’s unclear if these will also drop at the earlier timeslot, but it seems unlikely. Lucasfilm likely made the decision in part because of the special premiere, as well as the fact that fans at Star Wars Celebration in California got to see the episodes already.

In any case, it’s an exciting time for fans. Set 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi sees Ewan McGregor reprise his prequels role of the eponymous Jedi Master as he embarks on a dangerous mission. Notably, Vancouver’s own Hayden Christensen is also back as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, while Toronto’s Deborah Chow (who directed episodes of The Mandalorian) has helmed all six episodes. It’s one of many upcoming Disney+ originals with prominent Canadian talent.

A Disney+ subscription costs $11.99 CAD/month or $119.99/year.

Apple teases Star Wars focused Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound film ahead of May the Fourth

Apple has released a brief teaser for an upcoming Star Wars-focused Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound film. This project is made in collaboration with LucasFilm and debuts on Star Wars Day next week.

A one-minute-long teaser of the Behind the Mac film showcases the Skywalker Sound division at LucasFilm.

This team is in charge of the generation and creation of sounds within the iconic franchise. The teaser questions whether one could identify the movie and scene of the said movie based on sounds. We hear quick snippets of Darth Vader and lightsabers. The film showcases the artists and the various ways they produce the sounds and audio.

Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound pulls the curtain back and shows how the division uses Apple’s Mac products and other tools to create the audio for various Star Wars projects.

The Skywalker Sound division was founded in 1975 and plays an integral role in the Star Wars franchise. Additionally, the division has worked on other high-profile projects including Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, and various Marvel films.

Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound releases in full on May 4th. This day is also recognized as Star Wars Day and referred to as May the Fourth, drawing back to the franchise.
