Virgin Plus still offering $10/mo Lunar New Year discount

Last week, MobileSyrup detailed Koodo’s plan to remove its $10/mo Lunar New Year discount on February 14th. Now that the 14th is behind us, Koodo has dropped the discount. So has Rogers flanker brand Fido, though Bell’s Virgin Plus still offers the discount, for now.

Fido’s website has removed the Lunar New Year discount from the plan page and the listed plans no longer show the discount. As a refresher, customers could save $10/mo for 12 months with the Lunar New Year deal. It appears Fido removed the offer at the same time as Koodo.

Meanwhile, Virgin Plus still lists the $10/mo discount on its website. Virgin says the deal is a “limited time offer” but there’s no end date listed. It’s not clear how long the discount will stick around.

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45 after discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50 after discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55 after discount)

If you want to take advantage of the Lunar New Year deal, you’ll want to move fast.

Koodo to end $10/mo Lunar New Year discount on February 14

Koodo, Fido and Virgin Plus launched a Lunar New Year discount back in mid-Janaury, but it looks like the deal could soon come to an end.

Telus flanker Koodo now lists February 14th as the last day to get the deal. While Fido and Virgin haven’t added similar notices to their websites, they’ll likely follow suit soon.

The deal, for those unfamiliar with it, gives customers a $10/mo discount for 12 months on select plans ($120 in total). In the case of Koodo, it’s available with three plans, the $55/8GB, $60/10GB and $65/15GB options.

If you’re looking for a new phone plan, you might want to claim this offer before it goes away on February 14th. While not the best offer from Canadian wireless providers, $10 off each month is better than nothing — even if it’s only for a year.

Koodo, Virgin offer $10/mo discount for 12 months for Lunar New Year

Koodo and Virgin Plus have joined Fido in offering a $10/mo discount for 12 months on select plans to celebrate Lunar New Year.

Rogers flanker brand Fido first rolled out the discount on January 13th, and the other providers added similar discounts over the weekend.

Telus flanker brand Koodo will apply the $10/mo credit on plans $55/mo or higher. Koodo’s website also advertises that it will waive the $50 connection fee, although it’s worth noting that Koodo (as well as most other wireless providers in Canada) waive the connection fee for online orders already.

Koodo plans are as follows:

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45/mo with the discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50/mo with the discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55/mo with the discount)

It’s worth noting that Koodo only offers the discount on bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) plans, so if you want to get a phone, you can’t benefit from the deal.

As for Bell flanker brand Virgin Plus, it also offers the $10/mo credit for 12 months on $55/mo+ plans:

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45/mo with the discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50/mo with the discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55/mo with the discount)

Likewise, Virgin only offers the discounted price for BYOP plans, and it also specifies on its website that the discounted plans are available for “new activations only.”

Chatr Mobile offering 8GB of monthly bonus data for eight months

Rogers flanker brand Chatr Mobile is also getting in on the Lunar New Year action by offering 8GB of bonus monthly data for eight months on select plans.

The deal is available on the following plans:

  • $40/mo 5GB + 8GB bonus
  • $50/mo 10GB + 8GB bonus
  • $60/mo 15GB + 8GB bonus
  • $70/mo 20GB + 8GB bonus

It’s worth noting, as with past Chatr deals, that the bonus will expire if the account becomes inactive or if customers change their plans before the end of the eight-month period. As such, make sure to sign up with a plan you’ll want to hang onto for the next few months.

Chatr’s website also notes that the offer is for new activations with auto-pay (the 8GB bonus includes a 2GB auto-pay bonus), and it will be available until February 7th.

Finally, it’s worth keeping in mind that Chatr caps its data at 3G speeds, which the providers notes is up to 10Mbps.

Fido discounts select plans by $10/mo for Lunar New Year

Rogers flanker brand Fido is offering a $10/mo discount for 12 months on select plans for Lunar New Year.

The offer is available through a promo code, although it was auto-applied when I loaded up Fido’s plan page. The code applies the discount to the following plans:

  • $55/mo 8GB ($45/mo after discount)
  • $60/mo 10GB ($50/mo after discount)
  • $65/mo 15GB ($55/mo after discount)

While not quite as good as some of the offers available during Black Friday and Boxing Week, $10 off each month is better than nothing.

At the time of writing, Koodo and Virgin Plus had not rolled out a similar discount.

Chatr offering bonus 2GB/mo and one-month free credit for Lunar New year

Rogers flanker brand Chatr is back with some limited-time deals for the Lunar New Year. Until February 2nd, customers can get 2GB of bonus data per month for eight months plus one month’s “fee in credit.”

The offers apply to almost every plan, with the provider’s $25/mo plan being the only one excluded from the 2GB bonus. That plan does still qualify for the one-month free offer, however.

The 2GB bonus expires if an account becomes inactive or customers change their plan before the end of the eight-month period. The one-month free offer will apply a credit “equivalent to one month’s plan fee” to customers’ bills on the third-anniversary date. Again, Chatr says it won’t apply the credit if accounts become inactive or if users change plans.

It’s worth noting that Chatr has offered variations of the 2GB bonus for a while now (in December, it was 2GB/mo for six months). It appears the one-month free credit was added more recently on January 31st. You can view a full list of Chatr plans below:

Chatr’s plans all include call display, call forwarding, group calling and unlimited texting to Canada, the U.S. and internationally. Additionally, all data amounts are capped at 3G speed and customers can add an additional 500MB of data per month by enabling auto-pay.

The sale started yesterday, January 27th and will end on Thursday, February 3rd.

Public Mobile’s Lunar New Year promotion offers 2GB bonus data for eight months

Telus flanker brand Public Mobile has gone live with its Lunar New Year promotion, which offers new customers 2GB of additional bonus data every month for eight months.

The only requirement is that you need to be a new customer enrolled in any one of Public Mobile’s $25+ plans.

To claim the offer, head to Public Mobile’s website and submit your email on the homepage before February 2nd. Expect to receive an email from Public Mobile containing a promo code in the next few days. Activate a new $25+ plan line with the promo code, and the bonus data will be applied to your account within two business days.
