Uber Eats can now bring Torontonians weed and munchies

We’ve come a long way from buying weed from a guy in a 1994 Honda Civic in the parking lot of No Frills.

Toronto residents can now order cannabis products directly to their door via Uber Eats. This is the first time marijuana has been available to order in the province through a third-party delivery service. At launch, three cannabis retailers will be available on Uber Eats: Hidden Leaf Cannabis, Minerva Cannabis and Shivaa’s Rose.

“We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers offer safe, convenient options for people in Toronto to purchase legal cannabis for delivery to their homes, which will help combat the illegal market and help reduce impaired driving,” said Lola Kassim, the general manager of Uber Eats Canada in a statement.

To make the order, Uber Eats app users need to select the ‘Cannabis’ category. After selecting a retailer, a warning that you must be of legal age appears, followed by a menu of different marijuana products. After selecting your weed, the process is similar to a standard Uber Eats order. You’re notified when the retailer accepts your order and are given an estimated delivery time. And, of course, when the order arrives, the delivery person verifies the buyer’s age.

It’s unclear how much of a cut Uber takes of cannabis sales made through its app. The service typically earns a 20 to 30 percent commission on restaurant orders. The app also offers deliveries of products from Indigo Books, Dollarama, the Body Shop and several grocery stores.

According to a press release focused on the announcement, nearly 57 percent of cannabis purchases in Ontario between the start of January and the end of March were purchased through legal channels, leaving a large swath of weed still coming from the black market.

However, the results of this Statistics Canada survey are likely a little skewed given that those who purchase weed from illicit sources probably aren’t fond of telling the government about their illegal weed-purchasing habits.

This partnership with Uber Eats is an attempt by Ontario’s government to push back against the illicit marijuana market with a faster and more convenient delivery option than what the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) currently offers.

Uber Eats is available on iOS and Android.

OCS says weed shops to receive deliveries following cyberattack

Ontario’s Cannabis Store (OCS), the provincial government-run retailer that operates its own store and also sells marijuana products to pot shops in the province, says that deliveries will soon start making their way to pot shops.

The OCS announced on Monday, August 15th, that one of its third-party logistics partners suffered a cyberattack, forcing the company to cap the number of cannabis products retailers can order to 30 packs per product and to delay orders. The cyberattack on Domain Logistics occurred on August 5th.

The OCS says that a third-party forensic investigation determined that no customer data was compromised by the cyberattack.

This limitation resulted in several weed stores across the province to be without pot deliveries for roughly a week. According to The Canadian Press, the OCS has told pot shops that delivery hours will be extended and that the order size limitation aims to ensure standard delivery sizes and timing return as quickly as possible.

“Our focus is now on working our way through the backlog of wholesale orders and getting trucks on the road delivering to Ontario’s authorized retailers who count on us,” said OCS CEO David Lobo in a statement.

The OCS says that deliveries should start arriving in the next few days.

Snoop Dogg launches cannabis product line

Snoop Dogg has launched Leafs By Snoop, a branded line of cannabis products.

The rapper has made no secret of his love of the herbal drug and has now created his first batch of cannabis-infused items, which includes food, hand-weighed marijuana flowers and hash oils that are on sale in ”dispensaries” in Colorado – where recreational marijuana use was legalized in 2013.

In a statement, Snoop said: ”It’s a true blessing that I can share the products I love so much with y’all today. From the flower, to the concentrates, and edibles – it’s all hand-picked by yours truly so you know it’s the hottest product out there. It’s the real deal and you gotta get out to Colorado to try it first!”

The rapper’s site Merry Jane will show a location mapping tool showing the sites which sell the line.

Snoop describes the site as a ”premier media platform at the center of cannabis and pop culture”.

Flavors are named Cali Kush, Bananas, Purple Bush and Blueberry Dream and available in flowers and concentrates, while ”Dogg Treats” – a branch underneath the Leafs By Snoop umbrella – will include Peanut Butter Gems, Gummies, Drops and Fruit Chews containing THC.

Meanwhile, Snoop’s new website MerryJane will feature information about marijuana and a location-mapping tool to show dispensaries of the new range.

Explaining his vision for the site, Snoop said: ”We will be like the encyclopedia to the cannabis world.”

Famous cannabis smokers Seth Rogen and Miley Cyrus are also involved with the website.

Announcing the project at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco, Snoop previously revealed that the website will accept 420 users per day ahead of the official launch.

4/20 is a code-term that refers to the consumption of cannabis.

Susan Sarandon enjoys marijuana

Susan Sarandon claims smoking marijuana has helped her career.

The ‘Lovely Bones’ actress insists she has never worked while high but found reading scripts while under the influence of the drug has changed her ”perspective” on the projects.

She said: ”I’ve never worked high, and I’ve never filmed high. But I’ve read scripts high and gotten a different perspective.”

The 68-year-old actress – who has daughter Eva, 30, from her relationship with Franco Amurri and sons Jack, 25, and Miles, 22, with ex-partner Tim Robbins – believes smoking marijuana helps her be more ”present” in the modern world and make the most of her down time.

She told High Times magazine: ”That’s the great thing about smoking weed: if you lead a very, very busy life, for me, it really makes the most of your weekend. It like, triples, your weekends. If you only have certain windows to get high, it allows you to slow down and really be there.

”It’s really important, because technology has made everybody multi-task: we get so distracted and so crazy… Smoking helps you to connect again – to be present and conscious.”

However, the ‘Thelma and Louise’ star advises against being ”stoned constantly”.

She said: ”As I’ve explained to my kids, weed helps you take a break from a very busy life. But you’ll never have a really full life if you are stoned constantly from a young age.”

Susan believes marijuana has so many benefits to users, it is ”absurd” that it isn’t legalized everywhere.

She said: ”It’s absurd that more states haven’t legalized it. It’s an important source of income… You also see the reports on kids who have seizures that are prevented by medical marijuana. You see the relief it gives to vets…

”It’s also a lovely way to socialize and be with people — and to be with yourself and de-stress.”

Seth Rogen’s drug shock

Seth Rogen was ”genuinely shocked” to discover marijuana was illegal in California.

The Canadian-born actor was arrested for drug use when he first moved to Los Angeles because he had forgotten about the fact they had different legislation than he was used to.

He recalled: ”I was genuinely shocked at how illegal it was here. I actually got arrested when I first moved to LA – I was smoking a joint at the beach, like I did my entire childhood, and all of a sudden, it was, like, whoop whoop whoop! Handcuffed in the back of a police car.”

Despite his arrest, the ‘Interview’ star doesn’t believe he has a criminal record.

Meanwhile, Seth, 32, has had a special preview of Kanye West’s next album – after the rapper invited him in his limo van and forced him to listen and give his opinion on each track.

Recalling how the ‘Yeezus’ star approached him in a New York hotel shortly after he and friend James Franco spoofed the musician’s ‘Bound 2’ video – in which Seth played the role of Kanye’s topless wife Kim Kardashian West – the actor admitted the session lasted much longer than he was expecting.

He told Rolling Stone magazine: ”There’s no lyrics, only beats. So he raps the whole album, and after each song, he stops it, like, ‘So what do you think?’ We were in the van for two hours!”

Jackie Chan’s son arrested in drugs bust

Jackie Chan’s son was arrested in a drugs bust.

Jaycee Chan, 32, and his actor friend Kai Ko, 23, were detained by police last Thursday (14.08.14) after more than 3.5oz of marijuana was discovered at Jaycee’s home, according to a statement on Beijing police’s official micro blog.

Jaycee’s arrest comes as Beijing police are cracking down on drug use but Beijing Municipal Anti-Drug Office deputy director Jin Zhihai insists officials are not targeting celebrities as such.

He told the Beijing Times: ”If there is an increased crackdown on drugs, the number of celebrity offenders will also rise.”

Despite his comments, actor Gao Hu, 40, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and cannabis just last week.

Like his father, Jaycee is also an actor but his movies have not been as successful as the likes of some his dad’s motion pictures including ‘Rush Hour’.

Jackie has previously said he wished Jaycee had joined the army when he was younger to ”temper his character” and revealed he wouldn’t be leaving his son any of his millions made from his movie career when he passes away.

Speaking in 2011, he said: ”If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money.”

Snoop Dogg smoked cannabis at White House

Snoop Dogg smoked cannabis at the White House.

The 42-year-old rapper – whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. – admits he once puffed on marijuana in the bathroom at the official residence of president Barack Obama in Washington D.C.

Speaking on the latest episode of ‘Snoop Dogg’s GGN News’, he told Jimmy Kimmel: ”[I’ve smoked] in the bathroom [of the White House]. Not in the White House, but in the bathroom.”

The ‘Young, Wild and Free’ hitmaker tricked security into thinking he was going to the toilet and he even managed to persuade them to let him light a napkin.

He explained: ”I said [to the security guards], ‘May I use the bathroom for a second?’ And they said, ‘What are you gonna do, number one or number two?’ I said, ‘Number two.’ So I said, ‘Look, when I do the Number two, I usually, you know, have a cigarette or light something to get the aroma right.’

”And they said, ‘Well you know what? You can light a piece of napkin.’ I said, ‘I’ll do that.’

He then inhaled his cigarette and added: ”And the napkin was this.”
