Justin Beiber turned neighborhood upside down

Justin Bieber allegedly turned his neighborhood upside down over the weekend.

The 19-year-old singer – who had an unexpected visit from police at his home in Calabasas, Los Angeles, on Monday evening (05.27.13) after they received a high volume of calls from neighbors complaining he was speeding around in his Ferrari – reportedly held several parties until 3a.m. in recent days and was also seen riding around on a Segway with a friend, who was allegedly smoking marijuana on Sunday (05.26.13).

Sources told gossip website TMZ.com that multiple neighbors in his gated community called cops twice in the last five days because of the loud noise from his parties.

The neighbors also claim that the ‘Boyfriend’ singer, who has an on/off relationship with Selena Gomez, regularly "drives recklessly" around the area in his car and on his motorcycle, and have accused him of almost hitting another vehicle while it was pulling out of a driveway on Sunday.

The homeowner’s board is planning to take action by looking into whether Justin is technically running a business from the house, which is against the rules, and has already asked police to tow any cars left on their street by Justin’s friends overnight.

Former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, who lives in the same enclave, is said to have confronted Justin about his dangerous driving on Monday night, after he spotted him racing around in his Ferrari, but the singer ran inside.

Los Angeles County Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore previously said: "Callers reported Bieber driving at a startling high rate of speed. At least one child was playing in the area where Bieber was allegedly driving."

He added that the case will be presented to the LA County District Attorney at a later date.

The string of complaints – which accused the pop star of driving too fast when children were playing outside – come just two months after the ‘Beauty and a Beat’ hitmaker allegedly threatened to kill his neighbor and spat at him after being confronted for racing his Ferrari in their peaceful community.

The District Attorney is currently reviewing that case and is expected to make a decision soon.

Snoop Lion: ‘I’ll show my kids how to safely smoke weed’

Snoop Lion will show his children how to smoke pot.

The ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ hitmaker – who recently reinvented himself as reggae star Snoop Lion from hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg – plans to demonstrate a safe way for his kids Corde, Cordell and Cori to use marijuana if they want to smoke it when they are older.

He told GQ magazine: "It’s not that I would ever push weed on our kids, but if they wanted to, I would love to show them how, the right way, so that way they won’t get nothing put in their s**t or overdose or trying some s**t that ain’t clean."

Snoop recently spent the festive season with his family and he stuffed his children’s stockings full to the brim with expensive gifts.

He said: "The kids love the Dogg but they’re loving the Lion too. I like to spend Christmas with my family. I’m on the road so much that it’s important that I make time during the holidays. My kids are very fortunate and I’ve been known to stuff a few stockings at Christmas time."

Snoop Dogg needs weed to write songs

Snoop Dogg needs "a lot of weed" and "females" to write new tracks.

The ‘Drop it Like it’s Hot’ rapper – who is now re-branding himself Snoop Lion and releasing a reggae album – says he needs certain specific ingredients to get him in the mood before he can write a hit.

He said: "To write rap I’ve got to smoke a lot of weed. I need some music, old music, R’n’B, hip hop, anything that’s 70s, 80s, 60s, something that’s inspiring, then I’ve got to have a couple of females around for inspiration."

The veteran hip-hop star may need to be under the influence to write new songs, but he takes his art very seriously, comparing it to a sport.

He added: "It’s a sport to me, because it’s like you’re driving me to want to out-do you. Its like if I saw you doing a three sixty kick on a skateboard, I gotta do a seven twenty, just to outdo you. My style of rap, I’m going to say is tae-kwon-do."

Snoop is one of a number of rappers who stars in new film, ‘Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap’ directed by Ice-T and featuring Eminem, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Q-Tip and many more. The film will be released on DVD in October.

Medical marijuana without the side effects?

American researchers have developed medical marijuana that works as a painkiller, but without the side effects like hallucinations and impaired mobility, reports New Scientist.

Medical marijuana is often not appropriate for everyone because of its adverse hallucinogenic effects. Composed of more than 400 chemicals, it can help alleviate chronic pain, seizures, depression and muscle spasms associated with multiple sclerosis, according to lead author Li Zhang in the journal Nature Chemical Biology.

From 70 known varieties of marijuana, the researchers’ goal was to help identify or develop a drug that possessed the painkilling properties without the side effects, added the Zhang.

Through experiments on mice, the researchers confirmed that the drug’s pain-relief and psychotropic effects can be decoupled.

Last year, UK’s GW Pharmaceuticals launched a cannabis-based medicine in Europe called Sativex to help relieve painful muscle spasms in patients with multiple sclerosis. The medicine is released into the body 20 to 40 times more slowly than smoking cannabis, which the company believes helps to alleviate side effects.

As well, the remedy contains cannabidiol, a component of marijuana believed to decrease psychotic reactions to THC. Currently, no psychotic effects been recorded in the U.S., where drug trials are underway to help combat pain in cancer patients.

Willie Nelson sings his way out of pot bust?

On November 26, 2010, country and western star Willie Nelson was charged with marijuana possession after a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint search found six ounces on his tour bus. The singer posted a $2,500 bond and was released four hours later.

The prosecutor in the case is willing to let Nelson off with a $100 fine if he sings Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain in the courtroom, according to TMZ.

Although the song would count as community service, it’s ultimately up to the judge to decide Nelson’s punishment. If convicted, the Farm Aid co-founder could face up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

"Tax it, regulate it and legalize it," Nelson, 77, told CelebStoner.com following his arrest. "And stop the border wars over drugs. Why should the drug lords make all the money? Thousands of lives will be saved."

The Crazy songwriter was previously arrested in 2005 and 2006 for drug possession, and this latest arrest has only fueled his fight to legalize marijuana.

"I don’t drink anymore. That was always my biggest problem. I never did cocaine or any of those things. Alcohol was always my enemy, for as far back as I can remember. When I quit drinking and quit smoking cigarettes, a lot of my problems went away."

Nelson is a co-chair of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) advisory board, and has worked for years for marijuana legalization.

Recently, the singer-songwriter formed a Facebook page called Willie Nelson’s TeaPot Party.

A hotel reserved for tokers in LA

You can be forgiven for thinking this story is right out of a Cheech & Chong movie but it’s true. The city of Los Angeles now has a hotel that caters to weed smokers.

Dennis Perron is a leader of efforts to legalize medical marijuana in California. He was asked by the new owner of the Hôtel Normandie to develop a "pot-tel". The reopening took place, of course, on April 20, or 4/20 which in pot speak is a very unrecognized day to celebrate marijuana.

The hotel will not be selling guests any pot though. Selling marijuana is still illegal in the United States.

Normandie marketer and marijuana rights activist Richard Eastman told the Los Angeles Times about the hotel’s new motto: "Forget Amsterdam… All roads lead to the Normandie."

Eastman added: "You won’t need a passport to come to the Normandie Hotel. You won’t need a plane ticket to come to the Normandie Hotel. On the Metro, the bus, the taxis, we’re centrally located in the middle of the center of the universe right here."

The Hôtel Normandie dates back to the 1920s and is now located in the Korean quarter. Until recently, the LA Times notes, the hotel "catered to budget travelers, long-term tenants and Korean-speaking visitors."

It costs $420 for a two-night stay.

Alanis Morissette Loves Marijuana

Morissette recently revealed in High Times, a magazine dedicated to the cannabis culture, that she uses marijuana to stimulate her creative juices, but clarified that she only does it in moderation.

The singer explained, "As an artist, there’s a sweet jump-starting quality to it for me. I’ve often felt telepathic and receptive to inexplicable messages my whole life. I can stave those off when I’m not high. When I’m high – well, they come in and there’s less of a veil, so to speak. So if ever I need some clarity… or a quantum leap in terms of writing something, it’s a quick way for me to get to it."

The star’s current boyfriend, Tom Ballanco, is an advocate of marijuana used for medical purposes, and was effective in highlighting the benefits of the drug to his girlfriend. Ballanco commented, "Any fears that I had about cannabis were quickly assuaged. Now I feel like a professional!"

The star made a guest appearance on the Showtime network’s show, Weeds, in which she played the role of an obstetrician treating a widow-turned-dope dealer.

Alanis Morissette is currently working on the follow-up album to 2008’s Flavors of Entanglement, though its release date has not been revealed.

The Negative Effects of Marijuana

Research done at McGill University and published in the Journal of Neuroscience showed that THC, the active ingredient found in marijuana, has a double effect.

In fact, consuming even a small amount of marijuana can have the same effects as an anti-depressant, while larger doses could cause mental health difficulties such as depression.

Depression is caused by a decrease in the neurotransmitter seratonin in the brain. Dr. Gabriella Gobbi showed that small doses of THC increased the seratonin, like  anti-depressant medication such as Prozac or Celexa.

However, after a certain point, the positive effects start to reverse and produce the opposite symptoms. Consumers could become depressed and apathetic.
