Tallest hotel in New York

The Marriott hotel chain will be adding to its 3,600 worldwide locations with the opening of a new 230-metre (752-ft) high hotel in New York City, making it the tallest in the Big Apple.

The Courtyard and Residence Inn Manhattan-Central Park, a soaring, new 68-storey property houses two distinctly different hotels – the 378-room Courtyard and the 261-room Residence Inn for longer stays — at 1717 Broadway (at 54th Street).

The hotels will share a main entrance and arrival lobby on 54th Street, with public areas for the Residence Inn on the third floor and for the Courtyard on the fourth floor.

Guest rooms for the Courtyard will be located on floors 6 through 32 and for Residence Inn on floors 36 through 64, with separate elevator banks to serve the guestrooms and public areas for each brand.

In addition to ground floor retail space, a leased restaurant will occupy the second floor, and a fifth floor lounge and terrace with outdoor seating will have a great view overlooking Broadway. Both hotels will share a fitness facility on the 34th floor.

The multi-million dollar project is scheduled to open in late 2013 and be managed by Interstate Hotels and Resorts.

Marriott launches 4 new hotels in Europe

The Marriott Group has launched its first four Autograph Collection hotels in Europe, all located within Spain, reports TourMag.com.

The four new accommodations include the Palacio de Santa Paula in Grenada – featuring unique Turkish baths; the modern-meets-Old-World Palicio del Retiro; the regal Santo Mauro in Madrid – once the Palace of the Duke of Santo Mauro; and the Baqueira Hotel and Spa, overlooking the Pyrenees mountain range with skiing nearby.

The Autograph Collection, launched in January 2010, promises "a well-edited ensemble of high-personality and boldly original independent hotels, each carefully selected for its distinctiveness, style and synchronicity with your unique travel interests," explains the company website.

The AC hotels are grouped around five central themes: boutique arts, iconic historic, boutique chic, luxury redefined and retreat.

The company has already opened 20 hotels in the U.S., including the "iconic historic" Algonquin Hotel in New York, the "luxury redefined" Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, and a series of "boutique arts" Bohemian hotels in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.

Cars Eat Free Package at New Brunswick hotel

The Residence Inn by Marriott Moncton in New Brunswick has a new package deal to help travelers take a vacation from worrying about the rising cost of gasoline, reports Canadian Tourist News.

The Cars Eat Free Package includes one night accommodation, a $25 gas gift card, and free parking. Room rates are priced competitively throughout the winter and spring.

The hotel is located in the heart of Moncton and only five miles from the airport. Available in studio, one and two-bedroom arrangements, the 133 high-end suites all include an en suite kitchen and living area. Included in the nightly rate are a complimentary hot breakfast buffet and high-speed wireless internet.

To help stock the en suite kitchen, the hotel boasts an on-site market, as well as a pool, fitness center, business center and two meeting rooms.

The popular restaurant chain, The Keg Steakhouse, is also located on-site, serving lunch and dinner in a relaxed setting.

Historic St Pancras Renaissance Hotel opens in London

After almost two decades of neglect, an historic Victorian-Gothic building reopened as the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel London from Marriott, reports Le Blog Luxe.

Formerly known as the Midland Grand Hotel, the building has been restored to its 19th-century glory and has begun accepting guests as of March 14.

The Midland Grand closed as a hotel 76 years ago, unable to compete with newer hotels due to a lack of one very necessary feature – running water.

Over the past two years, the new owners spent over $240 million in renovations, including the addition of bathrooms to the 38 original Victorian suites.

"When the hotel opened in 1871, there were only eight baths, in four rooms. Most people, if they wanted a wash, would ring for water to be brought to their rooms," Royden Stock, the building’s caretaker, told the Telegraph.

Much of the restorative work went into fixing up the historical features of the property. A central highlight, the wide stone cantilevered staircase, designed by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott and seen in the 1963 film The Servant, has been sandblasted to a sheen.

Marriott Hotels Offer Discount

To combat the slow fall season, Marriott Hotels are offering, for a limited time, a 20% discount for travelers staying in their hotels on weekends.

The chain, which has over 2 500 hotels around the world, will apply this discount to reservations for a two night stay on weekends, made by September 24. This offer is only valid between September 25 and December 13, 2009.
