TikTok content creator is modding his car with Wii parts, including a Mario Kart steering wheel

TikTok content creator Tyler Atkin is modding his Mazda MX-5 Mk1 with various accessories from the Nintendo Wii.

Atkin, whose channel is known as ttptng on TikTok, is on a quest to transform his vehicle using Nintendo accessories. Over the course of a few weeks, Atkin has replaced a number of components on his vehicle. This includes exchanging the steering wheel with a Wii wheel, used for Mario Kart.

Atkin actually took the vehicle out for a spin using the Wii steering wheel. He later called it a “horrendous experience.“

Chronicling these various modding endeavours, Atikin’s TikTok channel also features videos of him swapping the floor mat with a Wii Fit yoga mat. Additionally, Atkin has replaced his gear stick with a Wii nunchuck. The Mazda also now features a Nintendo Wii in exchange for a radio. The car’s handbrake is now a Wii baseball bat accessory as well.

The first video in this “series” has over 3 million views. This endeavour is garnering quite a lot of attention for Atkin. While speaking to IGN, Atkin reflected on this viral success. “I just like to mess about with stuff; keeps me busy and I thought I’d record it,” Atkin says. “I put a Wii wheel on about three weeks ago just for something to do and put it on TikTok, told my missus the video would get one million views as a joke, and there’s now two or three videos over three million.”

Although it’s not exactly a practical venture, Atkin’s videos are pretty entertaining to watch. Atkin now refers to the vehicle as Wiiata, a nod to its original Miata name. Additionally, there’s no telling how far Atkin is willing to go with this vehicle. However, he does note that it might make sense to use his Mk2 MX5 as a Wii U-inspired vehicle.

The Mazda2 to Hit LA

A global success since it was revamped in 2007, the little Mazda has won the "Car of the Year" prize in over 20 countries. It was also crowned the "2008 World Car of the Year."

From small city cars to big SUVs, the Mazda range will be expanding in response to market demands.

In order for history not to repeat itself, North America has begun to make significant changes over the years, and the financial crisis of 2008 has only accelerated the process. Thus the physically-attractive and technically-appealing Mazda2 is bound to make a splash when it is introduced to the American and Canadian market in late 2010.

The specifications for the car will not be unveiled until December 2 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

L.A. Auto Show’s Design Challenge 2009

What emotional connection will the young generation of 2030 have with the automobile? Having grown up with ultra modern technology and virtual communities, they will probably have a different understanding of transportation. This is the subject grazed this year for the design challenge.

The big automakers have come up with different responses.
Audi presented two concepts, the eOra and the eSpira. They are controlled by the driver’s thoughts and body movement.

At General Motors, driving was mixed with a video game for "Car Hero." As the car heads to a destination, the driver is challenged by making some skilful moves at the right time, as in the game Guitar Hero. As the driver improves, the system allows him or her to gain more control over the car and the car progressively decreases its wheels from 4 to 1.

With the Helix, Honda takes some hints from biotechnology. Using materials that can change shapes combined with the driver’s DNA, the vehicle will adapt itself based on changes in the driver. The Helix is also capable of being modified into 3 different positions to adapt to traffic conditions. 

Madza takes its Souga concept and gives the owner the freedom to create and customize his or her vehicle, starting with a standard base price. The order is then quickly sent to production.

At Nissan the future will depend on an electric roadway system called the "GRID." The teens of 2030 will ride the V2G (Vehicle To Grid) system and the old highways will become obsolete.

Finally, Toyota chose to embellish communication with the "Link," which is self-serving and runs on spheres instead of wheels. The system allows the driver to locate friends and lets the driver travel with them and exchange music, etc.

The New Mazda CX-7

The new model didn’t get the overhaul in terms of style, with the exception of the front grille, which has adopted the new Mazda look with additional chrome.

The interior of the SUV has been given some extras, including a blind-spot detection feature and a rearview camera. The interior finish has also been upgraded with better materials and treatments to enhance its appearance.

Technically, the chassis has been stiffened and the suspension has been modified to accommodate a diesel engine, which will be offered in the European market.

North America will continue to enjoy the 2.3-litre DISI, loaded with 260 horsepower.

Mazda Unveils New Motors

Another Japanese automaker is now entering the hybrid engine race.  Mazda has introduced the SKY family of energy efficient motors.

The new engines will be on the market in 2011.  Mazda announced that the SKY range would be approximately 30% less expensive than current engines.  The SKY line consumes less fuel and delivers more power, says the Asian carmaker.

Several engines are offered.  The SKY-G, for example, is a gasoline engine that will be offered in 1.3 to 2-litre versions.  This engine will be 15% cheaper than other engines in its class.  The SKY-D version is a diesel engine that will be 20% cheaper.

In both cases, Mazda announced that the engines will be paired with a new six-speed automatic system called SKY Drive.

The official unveiling of the new SKY line will take place at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show.

The engine and gear box are taken from the standard version without modification, and the 1.8-litre block still provides 125 hp.

Thanks to its weight loss, the MX-5 Superlight Concept registers 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds in comparison to the roadster’s typical 9.9 seconds. The shell is better reinforced for better handling.

It’s hard to imagine the MX-5 Superlight actually being seen on the streets, though we can always dream. In the meantime, it will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Hyundai ix-Metro

With a futuristic look, featuring angles combined with soft curves, the Hyundai immediately brings to mind the latest concepts from Mazda, the Furai and Taiki. 

With the Hyundai ix-Metro, the Korean carmaker has introduced some interesting technical features.  Like many of its competitors, the Hyundai has downsized under the hood.  The car is powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, along with a gasoline/electric hybrid powertrain.  However, don’t be fooled by the smaller engine, because it still packs 125 horsepower. The car also features a 6-speed transmission with a double clutch. 

Also considered one of the most eco-friendly cars, the ix-Metro promises just 80g/km of CO2 emissions.

The ix-Metro should be available to the public in the next two years.
