Elon Musk says Starlink won’t block Russian media ‘unless at gunpoint’

Elon Musk said SpaceX’s Starlink satellite broadband service won’t block Russian news sources “unless at gunpoint” and apologized for being a “free speech absolutist.”

In a tweet (it’s always a tweet), Musk claimed some governments asked Starlink to block Russian news sources. Musk didn’t say which governments but noted the request didn’t come from Ukraine.

It’s an interesting stance to take considering Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent crackdown on media outlets that share information contrary to the Russian government’s narrative about the invasion. Those who do could face prison sentences of up to 15 years.

Musk’s claim to be a “free speech absolutist” is especially interesting given his track record of harassing people who disagree with him, not to mention his repeated efforts to bust unions at Tesla.

Oh, and who could forget when Musk compared Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Adolf Hitler. Yea, definitely the person I want championing free speech.

Musk’s stance puts SpaceX at odds with the growing list of tech companies taking action against Russia following its illegal invasion of Ukraine. It also comes after Musk tweeted excessively about efforts to deploy Starlink in Ukraine to help keep the country connected amid the invasion.

On that note, Musk also tweeted that SpaceX would reprioritize “to cyber defense & overcoming signal jamming,” which would cause “slight delays in Starship & Starlink V2.”

Katy Perry wants ‘private’ relationship

Katy Perry wants to keep her relationship with Diplo ”private”.

The ‘Roar’ hitmaker – who has dated singer John Mayer and comedian Russell Brand in the past – is reportedly keen to keep her romance with the DJ as low profile as possible as she ”wants it to work”.

A source told HollywoodLife.com: ”Diplo is still a part of her life, but she is keeping it very, very private.

”After Russell and John, she doesn’t want to have the same media storm she had with them because that took a toll on those relationships and really was a main reason for the trouble.

”They are still involved but she is being very closed off on this because she wants it to work.”

The 30-year-old singer is also said to be reluctant to become heavily involved with Diplo’s one-month-old son, Lazer, with his ex Kathryn Lockhart.

Although the brunette beauty has met the tot, she is keen to keep her distance and has refused to take part in any ”decision making” regarding the youngster.

The source explained: ”They want it that way. She has met Lazer, but is involved in zero decision making with the child.”

Christian Bale slams George Clooney

Christian Bale has blasted George Clooney for ”whining”.

The ‘Dark Knight’ actor has hit out at the ‘Monuments Men’ star – who married lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy, in September – for making ”boring” complaints about being hounded by paparazzi, insisting people in the public eye should just get on with their lives and ignore the extra attention.

He said: ”It doesn’t matter that he talks about it. It’s like, ‘Come on, guys, just shut up. Just get on with it and live your lives and stop whining about it.’ I prefer not to whine about it.”

While the 40-year-old star – who has a nine-year-old daughter and three-month-old son with wife Sibi Blazic – is renowned for his hot temper, he always tries not to get into confrontations with photographers, even if they deliberately try to provoke a reaction and ”kill” his ”humanity and dignity” with their remarks.

He recalled in an interview with WSJ magazine: ”I was in Italy with my wife. I would go to work; she would leave the hotel.

”There would be a man who stood outside . . . and say the most obscene things imaginable to my wife . . .

”I know what he’s after; he has a strategy there. Am I able to say I’m not gonna give him that satisfaction of angry Christian Bale coming after this man?

”But equally, he’s killing my humanity and my dignity as a husband if I do not, and he knows this. So you’ve got a choice.”
