Xbox app on Windows 10 now lets you stream games from consoles or the cloud

The Xbox app on Windows 10 now allows you to stream games from either your home console or via the cloud.

PC game streaming had been in beta for the past several weeks but is now rolling out officially to everyone. However, this is the first time that Microsoft is making Remote Play on PC available for Xbox Series X/S.

In order to stream, you’ll need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which costs $16.99 CAD/month, as well as a compatible controller. You’ll then find a ‘cloud gaming’ option in the Xbox app which will let you stream hundreds of Game Pass titles.

For more on Game Pass, find out what’s coming to the service later this month.

Master Chief blows up a banshee in Microsoft’s new Windows 11 ad

Seems like today is a day for trailers. First, Google dropped the Pixel 6 trailer, and then the new Matrix trailer arrived. Now, it’s Microsoft’s turn with a short teaser for Windows 11 featuring Master Chief.

The short ad features an actress walking through halls of apps, touching things to interact with them. First, she goes into the Xbox Game Pass app and starts Halo Infinite, which brings Master Chief into the ad. He blasts a banshee out of the sky with a rocket launcher, kick-starting the transition into the Windows 11 widgets interface.

From there, the actress looks up hummingbirds, then leaps into a Teams chat via the new taskbar integration in Windows 11. We briefly see the fancy new Windows 11 wallpaper before transitioning to a dance video. Finally, we see the actress back at her computer watching the dance video and opening a Teams call using Windows 11’s new window management system.

Overall it’s a nice little ad that does a decent job showing off some of what’s new in Windows 11. However, I wonder if people who don’t follow Windows news will get all the little hints about features peppered throughout.

Microsoft plans to launch Windows 11 on October 5th, likely alongside new Surface devices the company will probably unveil at its September 22nd event. And while I’m generally excited, I’m also concerned for the upgrade process — Microsoft has already made a mess of it with confusing system requirements and a stunning lack of clarity, and it doesn’t look like the situation will improve before October.

Taylor Swift buys adult-themed web addresses to protect her name

Taylor Swift has bought two racy web addresses to stop adult websites being started in her name.

The 25-year-old star has bought the rights to TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult – both of which would have been available from June 1, when new alternative web ‘dot’ suffixes will be allowed – in an effort to stop her name being linked to any explicit material.

Taylor’s move follows in the footsteps of Hollywood couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who have done something similar in order to protect their five-month-old daughter Wyatt Isabelle.

Speaking in October, Ashton said: ”We got the Twitter handle, the Instagram, everything. I don’t want a porn site with my daughter’s name on it.”

And earlier this year, Taylor’s Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr accounts were all hacked, prompting an angry public response from the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker.

She wrote in reply: ”Any hackers saying they have ‘nudes’? Pssh, you’d love that wouldn’t you! Have fun photoshopping, ’cause you got nothing.”

Meanwhile, Diplo recently likened Taylor Swift’s fans to ”an army that’s worse than North Korea”.

In November, the DJ called on his fans to start a campaign to get the singer ”a booty”, but he recently confessed blasting her on Twitter was one of the ”biggest mistakes” of his career.

He said: ”All I know is don’t ever get into a feud with Taylor Swift. She has like 50 million people that will die for her.

”It’s like an army that’s worse than North Korea. You can’t step into that arena. That was something I was never prepared for … one of the biggest mistakes of my career was definitely f***ing with her.”
