Upcoming Nothing speaker design leaks in renders

Nothing, the tech company led by Carl Pei, has already made a name for itself with its futuristic-looking gadgets, is now rumoured to be working on a new speaker.

While there’s no official name for the speaker yet, leaker Kuba Wojciechowski recently shared a render of the device with 91mobiles, giving us a look at what the speaker might look like.

From the image, it appears the speaker will feature a clear plastic handle on top and two large woofers toward the bottom. Above those, there are likely two tweeters and a third black circle that features the Nothing logo. On the sides, there are four buttons on the left, likely for volume and skip controls, with a red button that may serve as a multifunction control. On the right side, there are two buttons, with one protruding quite a bit. This suggests it may be a power toggle.

Further, “the device seems to have rubber paddings at the bottom, which should offer good support and grip when placed on flat surfaces.” Other than that, no specs or details about the speaker have been revealed.

We currently don’t know when Nothing plans to announce the new speaker, but considering rge company is working on 2nd-Gen Nothing Ear (2) wireless earbuds, the two audio gadgets could release simultaneously. The devices also might release alongside the Nothing Phone (2) later this year.

Ontario, Quebec getting more EV chargers through federal funding

This article first appeared on MobileSyrup and it has been shared with permission. To see the original article, click here.

Ontario and Quebec are set to get a ton of new electric vehicle (EV) chargers thanks to new government investment.

Announced on June 30th, the federal government will invest over $3.5 million in Baseload Power to install 31 Level 2 EV chargers and 67 fast chargers across the two provinces. The funding comes from Natural Resource Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). The project’s total cost is over $10.5 million.

Moreover, all the chargers will be available by November 2022.

“We’re making electric vehicles more affordable and charging more accessible where Canadians live, work and play. Investing in more EV chargers, like the ones announced today in Ontario, will put more Canadians in the driver’s seat on the road to a net-zero future and help achieve our climate goals,” said Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, in a press release.

Canada has invested $1 billion since 2015 to improve EV affordability and charger accessibility. That includes helping to establish a “coast-to-coast network” of chargers and federal rebates of up to $5,000 for Canadians who switch to EVs.

The government’s 2022 budget includes an additional $1.7 billion to extend that incentive program until March 2025. Additionally, the extension adds new types of vehicles to the program, such as vans, trucks, and SUVs. The budget also provides an extra $400 million to Natural Resources Canada to continue deploying zero-emission vehicle infrastructure by extending the ZEVIP to March 2027.

Apple’s web store taken down hours before WWDC

Apple’s 2022 Worldwide Developer Conference is set to kick off in a few hours, and in typical fashion, the company’s online store has been taken down.

While the store is usually pulled before hardware announcements, today marks the first time since 2017 that the online store has been taken down prior to WWDC, an event that is primarily software-focused, prompting us to believe that new hardware will surface at the event.

From what we know so far, we might see a new M2-powered MacBook Air at the tech giant’s event today, alongside a camera-equipped HomePod. We’ve also known for a while that Apple has an AR/VR headset up its sleeve that is rumoured to feature dual 4K displays, be powered by an in-house M1 chip and cost about $3,000 (roughly $$3,700 CAD). Though it’s unlikely that Apple releases the headset today, it might be possible that the Cupertino, California-based company shows off the headset today with a release planned for sometime later this year or early next year.

Whatever might be the case, you can keep an eye on the MobileSyrup home pageTwitter and/or Facebook for all the latest news from the event.

A look back at 15 years of MobileSyrup’s design

I’ve been at MobileSyrup for the past five years and following the website for at least two years before that. That said, we’ve been around since December 2007 — a fact that many people likely don’t realize.

Over the last (roughly) 15 years, MobileSyrup has gone through a variety of site designs.

This week we’re looking back at the various website homepages with the power of ‘Wayback Machine.’

December 7th, 2007

This is the first website design, and man does it look old.

December 16th, 2008

We were doing a BlackBerry Storm giveaway, which was a very cool and highly sought-after phone at the time. Higher up on the right, you can see that the most recent review was the BlackBerry Curve 8900.

December 1st, 2009

The design certainly does stay like this for a while.

July 29th, 2010

Finally, in 2010 MobileSyrup’s look changed. This design added a blog roll style with highlighted ‘Feature Stories.’ The site still looked decidedly old by today’s standards, of course.

November 3rd, 2011

It looks like there’s a slight design change with the reviews at the top. There’s also a ‘404 Not Found’ message, an error that surely caused our former publisher, Ian Hardy, to lose his mind.

August 15th, 2013

In August 2013, we see a huge change to the website. The logo looks similar to the MobileSyrup logo we have today. The overall design looks more modern, with the feature sidebar going through a blog roll. The website is also now mobile-friendly.

August 16th, 2014

A year later, MobileSyrup made another change primarily based on reader feedback and streamlined the homepage’s blog roll to be more simple. An article in the feature section mentions that users found this redesign rather confusing.

September 1st, 2014

Two weeks later, MobileSyrup went with a slightly different redesign. Instead of the tile format, there’s now a regular-looking blog scroll. The featured section is also slightly changed and similar to our current one.

January 7th, 2017

MobileSyrup stays pretty much the same for a couple of years before a big change was made.

April 17th, 2018

Around April 17th we see another design change that moves us very close to our current design.

August 5th, 2021

MobilesSyrup doesn’t really change much after this beyond our refreshed logo and a few other minor design flourishes (at least, not yet 🔥).

What do you think of MobileSyrup’s various designs over the years? Which was your favourite, and how do you like our current design? Let us know in the comments below.
