Tesla increases the prices of Model 3, Model S, and Model X in Canada

Tesla has increased the Canadian listing price of many of its vehicles, including the Model 3. The price changes vary from $600 to upwards of $3000 depending on the model.

In a full breakdown, provided by Tesla North, the Model 3, Model S, and Model X ranges all face price increases in Canada. The list of new prices, alongwith previous price tags, are as follow:

Model 3
RWD – $61,380 to $61,980 (+$600)
Long Range – $71,990 to $74,990 (+$3,000)
Performance – $81,490 to $83,990 (+$2,500)

Model S
Long Range – $128,990 to $129,590 (+$600)
Plaid – $177,990 to $178,590 (+$600)

Model X
Long Range – $146,990 to $147,590 (+$600)
Plaid – $184,290 to $185,590 (+$1,300)

As noted in the report the $600 price increase affecting many of Tesla’s models is the freight delivery fee which is jumping from $1,280 to $1,880. This makes for the smallest impact across Tesla’s Model 3 RWD, the entirety of the Model S line, and the Model X Long Range.

The vehicle that stands to see the biggest price increase is Tesla’s Model 3 Long Range. Tesla raises the price by $3,000. The Model 3 Performance is just shy of that with an increase of $2,500. Last up is the Model X Plaid, with a $1,300 increase.

Tesla hasn’t been shy to increase the prices of its vehicles. In March, the price of the Tri-Motor Model X was increased by more than $15,000. Many other models across Tesla’s Model 3, Model S, and Model X family also saw increases. However, the company is reportedly launching a cheaper Model Y option with a larger battery.

Throughout Q1, Tesla delivered over 310,000 vehicles, despite admitting it was an “exceptionally difficult” quarter for the company. Although the demand remains for Tesla’s vehicles, Tesla continues to struggle with supply chain issues.

Tesla adds denser battery and more powerful motors into Model X

A few months ago, Tesla showed off a refreshed Model S and Model X. While the company was vague on what upgrades users could expect, most of the company’s spotlight seemed turned towards the fact that there it features a new yoke steering device and a gaming PC’s worth of power-packed inside.

Now, new EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) documents are out that show off powertrain upgrades, slight battery density improvements and the more powerful AC permanent magnet motors in the long-range trim, according to ElectrekWhile these changes are interesting, they don’t change the max range of the car.

The new battery features a density of 182.2 wh/kg instead of 165 wh/kg that was offered before. This extra density has also allowed Tesla to bring the overall energy capacity of the battery down to 100 kWh instead of 103 kWh. This has resulted in the car being 200lbs lighter which also helps offset the slightly smaller battery.

The company is also looking to add cloud syncing to your Tesla profile. This could mean that your map’s favourites, seat settings and other features tailored to each driver may be able to follow them from car to car. This will be especially useful to anyone that owns more than one.

This feature was first mentioned by Elon Musk on Twitter in 2017.

Tesla finally starts shipping new Model X vehicles with yoke steering wheel

Tesla has begun shipping out the slightly redesigned Model X crossover with a new interior and the new Yoke steering device.

Beyond the new minimalist steering apparatus, the new Model X also has a screen in landscape orientation on the dash, a smaller screen in the back and pockets in the doors to hold items.

This new Model X also has a ‘Premium Upgrades Package.’ This includes multi-device Bluetooth connections, a 22-speaker audio system and a gaming computer with over 10 teraflops of power. This computer is presumably just the brains of the car itself.

We know that the car is finally being delivered since someone named Pierce Chuang posted a video on YouTube about a small Tesla event where some of the first cars were being sent to their drivers. The vehicles at the event appear to be the six-seat options, according to Electrek. This means that anyone who ordered a five- or seven-seat model might need to wait a little longer.

Also, since this event took place in California, Canadians will likely need to wait a bit longer still for their units.

Tesla refreshed the Model S and Model X back at the start of 2021 with new interiors and the famous ‘Plaid’ trim that’s been breaking some records in the Model S version. Neither car has been significantly changed, but each has been refined to be more modern for cars shipping in 2021. The Model S version has already begun shipping.
