Another trickle of Arcade Fire info

Arcade Fire performed in the UK on Wednesday (July 7) at East London’s Hackney Empire. They introduced the crowd to songs off the new album, The Suburbs, and played fan favourites from their first two albums.

Frontman Win Butler talked to BBC Newsbeat about returning to the spotlight and the new album. He commented: "If this record doesn’t sound electronic then that’s the greatest compliment."

He admitted that the level of recognition can be disconcerting. He revealed: "It takes a little bit of getting used to knowing that the first warm-up show you ever play will be everywhere on the internet, and you kind of have to grow up in the public in a lot of ways. But it really feels like we’re at the point in this tour now where we’re playing really great and the new songs feel really vital."

After all the hoopla, the new album drops at the beginning of August. In the meantime, the group is headlining the Osheaga music festival at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal on July 31. The Montreal indie group is also heading back to the UK to headline the Reading and Leeds Festivals on August 27 and 28.

Neil Young will tour the Gulf Coast

Neil Young has always been an artist who is not afraid to stand up for what he believes. A lot of his commentary on political, social and environmental issues ends up front and centre in his songs.

He now turns his sights on the environmental disaster along the U.S. Gulf Coast caused by that BP oil spill. Young plans to head down south during his Twisted Road solo tour and visit places affected by the spill.

Only one date has been confirmed on this leg of the tour so far. Mr. Young will perform at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida on September 23.

The tour page on Neil Young’s official website indicates that other dates are booked for August 24, October 23, November 21 and December 21. Fans now have to wait and see where he will actually be on those dates.

Young added a message to his website, saying: "Other dates will be announced that are surrounding this show in Florida and on the Gulf Coast. I am looking forward to playing Florida and the Gulf Coast."

He will certainly be playing material off his new album produced by fellow Canadian Daniel Lanois.

Neil Young album takes another form

According to Spinner, a concept album by Neil Young dating back to 2003 is now a graphic novel. Greendale is about a fictional California town and its residents. It was released this week by Vertigo.

This 10-track concept album, also referred to as a rock opera, was adapted into a 160-page graphic novel, written by Joshua Dysart and illustrated by Cliff Chiang. It centres around a seaside community and the adventures of the people who live there.

The book tells the story of Sun Green, the great-granddaughter of the town’s founder and her special relationship with nature. The author describes the novel as  "an American fable with strong supernatural elements."

Neil Young played a big role in the creation of this graphic novel, working with Dysart over the last several years. He then named Chiang as his choice to illustrate the novel.

Neil Young keeps fans wanting more

Neil Young fans have yet another reason to rush to one of the shows on his tour. The Canadian rock legend included five new songs in his repertoire. They are off his highly anticipated next album.

Young’s new album has no title or release date yet but rumour has it that producer Daniel Lanois is on board. Lanois is the genius who has worked with  U2, Bob Dylan and Peter Gabriel to name a few.

Listening to the new songs performed on his Twisted Road Solo Tour, the next album by this Canadian icon continues with Young’s favourite themes. The subjects of love, war and peace have been his trademark over the decades.

Young played three of these new songs on an acoustic guitar, Love & War, Peaceful Valley and You Never Call. The song Sign Of Love shows the 64-year old rocker has still got it when he picks up an electric guitar. The fifth new song performed during the tour finds Neil Young seated at the piano and singing Leia.

Neil Young proves with these new songs that he is still at the top of his game. It is not clear whether these new songs will be included on the follow-up to Fork in the Road, released in 2009.

Neil Young brings in the big guns

On paper it looks like a very promising collaboration. Star producer Daniel Lanois will work on Canadian legend Neil Young’s next album.

Lanois, along with Brian Eno, was responsible for U2’s change in musical direction in the 1980s with the release of The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree. He also worked with Bob Dylan.

Neil Young is heading out soon on a small 3-week tour of the United States. He will be alone on stage surrounded by his guitars. He has spent a lot of time in studio with Daniel Lanois talking about their vision for the new album.

According to David Crosby, who played with Young in the band Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Neil Young is feeling really alone since the death of L.A. Johnson. The producer worked on a number of Young’s albums and was a close personal friend.

Crosby told Rolling Stone magazine: "I suspect this will be a very heartfelt record. I expect it will be a very special record."

New Elton John album

According to Billboard, Elton John and Leon Russell are working together to record a new album in Los Angeles with T-Bone Burnett. The two artists wrote songs for the new as-yet-named album. No release date has been announced.

It looks like Neil Young, Booker T. Jones, Marc Ribot and Jim Keltner all contributed to the album. A message on Bernie Taupin’s website says no fewer than 15 songs have already been recorded. Taupin is a longtime Elton John collaborator.

Taupin mentions, "It’s varied in scope and drenched in a rich tapestry of atmospherics. Don’t expect to hear the old EJ/BT sound; this is organic recording unlike anything you’ve heard from our duo before."

Elton John’s last studio album, The Captain and the Kid, came out in 2006. He also went out on tour with Bill Joel in spring 2009.

Leon Russell has stayed out of the spotlight over the past few years. He has been releasing various albums on his own record label, Leon Russell Records.

An Album Produced By a Soldier

Many artists contributed to the album Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran, such as Eddie Vedder, Serj Tankian, Neil Young, Bright Eyes and Tom Morello, reported Billboard.

A documentary with the same title had its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last September, and will be presented in other cities around the world.

The first single from the album will be a track by Eddie Vedder with Ben Harper. It is a new version of the song No More, sung by Pearl Jam at a concert in Chicago in  2007.

The former soldier Tomas Young supervised the production and chose the tracks for the album. The complete list of songs on the album has not been revealed.
