Hurricanes could make major lineup switch for Game 6

The Carolina Hurricanes were unable to close the deal against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night, dropping a 3-2 decision that forced a Game 6 back in New York tonight.

And while the Hurricanes have gotten a strong performance in net from goaltender Antti Raanta, it looks as though they could be making a change. Frederik Andersen, who has yet to make an appearance in the playoffs due to injury and an illness, could be getting the nod between the pipes, according to head coach Rod Brind’Amour.

Raanta, who had a spectacular regular season record of 19-3-3 with a 2.23 goals against average and a .910 save percentage, has posted a 2.59 goals against average in the first five games of the postseason.

Meanwhile, Andersen amassed a 21-11-1 record with a 2.48 GAA and a .903 save percentage during the regular season.

Game 6 between the Islanders and Hurricanes will get underway tonight from UBS Arena starting at 7:00 PM EST.

Sebastian Aho’s face being cut open leads to Isles goal

The Carolina Hurricanes came into tonight’s Game 5 against the New York Islanders with thoughts of punching their ticket to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in front of their roaring fans at PNC Arena.

However, the Islanders are refusing to cooperate, having built up a 2-0 lead over the host Hurricanes, which was made possible by the would-be tying Carolina goal being waived off due to offsides.

And as if that wasn’t enough insult to injury, star Carolina forward Sebastian Aho was bloodied after being struck with the puck, which lead directly to his New York’s second goal:

Thankfully, Aho has returned to action:

Butch Goring roasts Biznasty, P.K. Subban, and Ryan Callahan.

A couple of young fellas have been taken to school this morning, and the teacher handing out the lessons isn’t exactly the kind of teacher you’re going to be inclined to give any back talk to.

On Monday morning, New York Islanders legend Butch Goring woke up and chose violence when he decided to roast a number of his fellow NHL alumni over opinions they had expressed over the course of the season. Specifically, Goring called out Paul “Biznasty” Bissonnette, P.K. Subban and Ryan Callahan for a variety of reasons.

It was Biz who got the worst of the 4-time Stanley Cup winner’s ire, with Goring sending out a tweet just for him.

“Hey Biz, just wondering what time that exciting and entertaining Sabres playoff game starts,” taunted the Islanders legend.

If you’re not familiar with the context, don’t worry I’ve got you covered. Back in February of this year, Goring and Biz butted heads a little over comments Biz made regarding the style employed by the Islanders.

“I would love to see the Buffalo Sabres in the playoffs,” said Biz back in February. “They are way more exciting to watch than the Islanders. The Islanders are the most boring team in the NHL, I do not want them to make the playoffs, I don’t care if all of Long Island hates my guts. They are a snoozefest. Snoozefest!”

As mentioned Goring also took aim at Subban and Callahan on Monday morning, with another tweet reserved for that pair.

“I am guessing Subban and Callahan will be going to bed early given the Isles are playing tonight. No big deal , no one will miss them,” taunted Goring yet again on social media.

I’ve gotta be honest with you I’m not even sure what Subban or Callahan said to draw the ire of the 73 year old former NHLer, but I suspect they likely made comments similar to the ones from Biz for Goring to respond in such a manner.

Bo Horvat apologizes for inflammatory Vancouver comments.

New York Islanders forward Bo Horvat got himself into a little hot water over the weekend when he made some public comments about his former team that were pretty inflammatory in their nature.

After the Islanders picked up a much needed win in their hunt for a playoff spot on Saturday night, Horvat participated in a post-game interview in front of the fans at UBS Arena and it was then that he made the comments. Horvat took what seemed like an entirely unprompted shot at his former team and their fans after he was asked what came off as a relatively run of the mill question during a post game interview.

Question: How does this rank for you in playoff pushes, the excitement of this building and the fans’ involvement over the last couple of games?

“It’s been unbelievable,” answered Horvat before then taking an unprompted shot at the Canucks and their fans. “It’s a lot better than Vancouver I’ll tell you that for free.”

Horvat’s comments drew widespread attention and likely cost him more than a few fans in the city of Vancouver, and on Monday morning he addressed the issue when speaking with the media. Horvat claimed that he got a little caught up in the excitement of the moment and stressed that the comments came off worse than he intended, before apologizing for the comments altogether.

“I wasn’t obviously expecting that,” said Horvat when asked about the reaction to his comments this weekend. “It was kind of a heat of the moment thing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the fans of Vancouver or my teammates or city of Vancouver at all. It wasn’t directed at them at all. The (Islanders) fans were all excited, and I was excited to be in a playoff push. It was just kind of one of those things where my emotions got the best of me. I was just really happy to be there to be honest with you. It might have come out the wrong way to a lot of people so I apologize for that. I’m just excited to be in the position right now, to be in a playoff push, to be right there. I really enjoyed my time in Vancouver, I’m not trying to disrespect them at all. I’m sorry if it offended anybody but l’m really happy to be in this position right now. I’m really happy to be here, and I just wanted to express that. It maybe, like I said, came out the wrong way to a lot of people.”

There’s no telling if Horvat’s apology will undo any of the damage those comments made to how he is perceived in the Vancouver market.

Bo Horvat takes a brutal shot at the Vancouver Canucks and their fans.

The fans of the Vancouver Canucks may not be looking at their Bo Horvat jerseys with the same fondness that they once did after these comments from their former captain.

On Saturday night, Horvat took a shot at his former team and their fans after he was asked what was a relatively run of the mill question during a post game interview.

The fact that the comments about Vancouver came without any provocation made them seem somewhat mean-spirited on the part of Horvat, but perhaps, if you’re looking to give him the benefit of the doubt, with how poorly the season went for the Canucks he is just very happy to be in a new organization.
