The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gets stunning new trailer, no delay

As expected, Nintendo closed out its latest Direct presentation with a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

While only slightly over two minutes long, we do get a good deal of gameplay footage, including looks at Link riding on horseback through ravaged landscapes, sliding down rails, riding some sort of buggy and flying what appears to be a large drone-like vehicle.

The trailer ends with a glimpse at Zelda. Interestingly, though, it reiterates the May 12th, 2023 release date, which should put some fears of another delay to rest.

Additionally, Nintendo has confirmed that pre-orders for the Breath of the Wild sequel have now gone live while revealing a collector’s edition with an artbook and other goodies. An Amiibo figure based on Link’s appearance in the game is also in the works.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp release date revealed

After an indefinite delay early last year, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp finally has a release date.

Announced as a part of today’s Nintendo Direct, the game will officially hit store shelves on April 21.

The remake of the classic tactics titles was shelved last March, citing “recent world events” for the push. While never explicitly said, it was assumed that the push came because of war breaking out in Ukraine.

Now after a year’s delay the games are finally ready to see the light of day!

Student causes police scare because of Nintendo Direct

A police scare happened today at California State University (CSU), and a Nintendo Direct is to blame.

The CSU police department is on high alert after staff received a “vague threat” so a student could watch today’s Nintendo Direct

Police discovered the potential threat when a Professor forwarded the Department an email from a student. The email “referenced a once-in-a-lifetime event” that would occur on February 8th and asked the professor “to cancel class for the good of humanity.”

Acting police chief Scot Whiley said in a statement, “After hours of investigating, we learned of a Nintendo Direct event that would occur at the exact date and time the individual suggested class be cancelled.” So, it is assumed this is the reason for the initial “threat.”

According to police, the student claimed, after the scare, that the whole thing was a bad joke. Despite this, CSU will see an increased security presence over the coming days.

Wiley closed in noting, “that a threat of any kind, real or not, causes many to fear for their safety.”

The latest Nintendo Direct airs live on Wednesday, February 8, at 2PM PST / 5PM EST.

Nintendo Direct officially announced for February 8

Nintendo has announced that its next Direct presentation will take place on Wednesday, February 8th at 2pm PT/5pm ET.

On social media, the company confirmed that the showcase will run for about 40 minutes and “mostly” focus on Switch games coming in the first half of 2023. As is normally the case, specific games were not teased.

However, we have some ideas of what we could see. The most obvious title — and one that lines up with previous reports — would be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While the Breath of the Wild sequel is currently set to release in May, we haven’t actually seen much gameplay. There have also long been rumours of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD Switch portsnot to mention a Metroid Prime remaster — that have yet come to pass. Meanwhile, Pikmin 4 is officially slated for 2023, so it may make an appearance.

We’ll find out more on February 8th. You can watch the Direct live via Nintendo’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

First Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer coming via Nintendo Direct on Oct. 6

Nintendo has announced that a new Direct presentation will be held on October 6th, and it will be focused entirely on the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Kicking off at 1:05pm PT/4:05pm ET on YouTube and Twitch and coinciding with a New York Comic Con panel, the Direct will feature the world premiere of the animated movie’s long-awaited first trailer. In a social media post announcing the Direct, Nintendo also offered our first look at the movie’s animation style.

Nintendo and animation studio Illumination officially announced the film in January 2018, but since then, we haven’t actually seen anything from it. All we know, following a September 2021 Nintendo Direct, is the movie’s principal voice cast, which amusingly includes Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser) and Canada’s own Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong). Therefore, all eyes are on seeing actual footage from this movie, especially given its meme-worthy voice cast.

It should be noted, however, that Nintendo will only discuss the Mario movie during the Direct — no news on Mario games will be provided.

Major Nintendo Direct officially set for September 13

After weeks of rumours and speculation, Nintendo has confirmed a major Direct presentation will be held on Tuesday, September 13th at 7pm PT/10am ET.

In a tweet, the official Nintendo of America account noted that the Direct will be roughly 40 minutes long and “mostly focused” on Switch games launching this winter. As always, the company didn’t hint at anything that might be shown. The showcase will be streamed to Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

That said, we have a few ideas. Giant Bomb‘s Jeff Grubb, a credible industry insider who also correctly pegged the Direct for early this week, has previously indicated that we’ll see Switch ports of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD at the event. Both remasters originally debuted on the Wii U, and Grubb says Nintendo aims to re-release them in the coming months to fill the gap between next year’s untitled Breath of the Wild sequel. Additionally, Grubb has said the long-rumoured remaster of the original Metroid Prime is also planned for a November launch, so that seems like a safe bet for the Direct.

Meanwhile, Nintendo games confirmed to be launching later this year include Bayonetta 3 and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, some (or all) of which could feasibly make an appearance. Grubb also suggested that we’ll finally get an official title at the Direct for the Breath of the Wild sequel, which has otherwise been colloquially referred to as “Breath of the Wild 2” since it was first unveiled in 2019.

It should be noted, however, that Nintendo U.K. is dropping the Direct as a video-on-demand on its YouTube channel “as a mark of respect” for the mourning of Queen Elizabeth II. Therefore, the full contents of the Direct will hit the web within minutes as people scrub through the entire video, so keep that in mind if you want to watch the full show live without “spoilers.”

What are you hoping to see at the Direct? Let us know in the comments.

Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase to be held on June 28

After weeks of rumours, Nintendo has confirmed that a new Nintendo Direct will be held on Thursday, June 28th.

However, this won’t be a traditional Direct; instead, it’s a “Direct Mini: Partner Showcase.” This means it will be focused on third-party titles, so don’t expect, say, the untitled sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Altogether, Nintendo says the presentation will run for “roughly 25 minutes.” It’s important to note, though, that it will be released on-demand on Nintendo’s YouTube channel at 6am PT/9am ET. This is a marked departure from traditional Directs, which are streamed live so everyone gets the reveals at the same time. By going the on-demand route, people will be able to scrub through the entire video, so you’ll likely see the whole show “spoiled” online within seconds, if that’s something you want to avoid.

In terms of what to expect, updates on Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 3 seem like safe bets, and we may also get long-awaited confirmation that Atlus’ Persona games are coming to Switch.

This isn’t the only Direct for June. Nintendo also released a Xenoblade Chronicles 3-focused stream last week.

The next Nintendo Direct rumoured to take place on June 29th

Nintendo’s next Direct event is reportedly scheduled for June 29th, according to a leak first reported by VideoGameChronicle (VGC).

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio writer and former games journalist Alanah Pearce, recently stated that Nintendo’s next Direct is scheduled for June 29th. According to VGC, Pearce was asked by a viewer in her chat if a Nintendo Direct event had been announced, to which she replied: “No, but I believe there is a Nintendo Direct coming on the 29th.”

Pearce added that she isn’t technically leaking the information, as the date wasn’t provided to her by Nintendo. “It’s not technically a leak, because Nintendo didn’t tell me, which is how I make that call. But it’s also, I’m not leaking anything that’s in it, which is what I think is shitty,” said Pearce.

According to VGC, Pearce’s claim backs up what the publication has been told by its sources. It’s likely Nintendo will make an official announcement soon.
