Nissan Presents the Land Glider

Nissan is keen to emphasize that the Land Glider is not just a design study, but an excellent marker of the trends of tomorrow.  And if we’re to believe Nissan, then the car of the future may be more of a bike.

The Land Glider concept features two seats, one behind another, and measures only 1.1 metres wide.  Another similarity to bikes or motorcycles is that the concept leans when cornering.  The wheels are capable of leaning up to 17 degrees, depending on dynamic behaviour and compensation for weight distribution.

The Land Glider is propelled by two electric motors, powered by batteries placed under the floor.  It is also equipped with an entirely electronic sensor system that can detect other vehicles in its path.

Nissan Signs a Deal with Vancouver

The Nissan Leaf, the first entirely electric car, is headed to the market and will first appear in B.C., Canada starting in 2011, one year before it hits the global market.

Vancouver and the Renault-Nissan alliance penned a deal to make the city a large-scale test for developing zero-emission vehicles.

The challenge now is to prepare Vancouver and other cities in the province to accommodate recharging devices, which is where BC Hydro’s involvement comes into play.

Mayor of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, revealed that the agreement is in line with his goal of moving the city closer to the goal of having zero-emission mobility and becoming the greenest city in the world. 2011 will mark an important year, with Vancouver’s plans of reaching the objectives by 2020.

Nissan Fishing for Good Ideas

Well-known images of schools of fish swimming in harmony with one another have inspired Nissan’s Eporo technology concept.

In total, 7 identical robots were created to operate the system.

The principle is based on each Eporo robot’s 288-degree "vision" via a laser, allowing them to maintain a safe minimum distance from the others. The robots can move as a group at 1.4 km/h without ever colliding.

For the long term, Nissan is hoping to incorporate this technology of "instinct" into its cars, allowing them to reduce traffic congestion and therefore, consumption and pollution.

In the meantime, the Nissan Eporo Concept will be seen at the CEATEC electronics show in Japan.

The Nissan GT-R Gets More Bells and Whistles

The carmaker has no intentions of resting on its laurels, and that was made clear to the press during a visit to Nissan’s Nurburgring testing facility in Germany.

The 2010 model will be getting some minor cosmetic changes, as well as new side intakes with the rear diffuser, and an updated suspension.  A new onboard computer is also in the plans.

The more luxurious version, the SpecM, was rumoured to be set for an appearance at the Tokyo Auto Show, but will more likely be shown in Detroit or Geneva.

The SpecM will feature a full package of luxury amenities, including a new configuration oriented for comfort.

Finally, a replacement for the current GT-R (R35) should be created by 2013 in order to follow the same schedule as the Porsche GT2.  Nissan intends to keep the same technical structure of a twin-turbocharged V6 and rear transaxle configuration.

Nissan Unveils Global Small Car Design

Two drawings were unveiled, but very little information was provided about the car, which will be sold in 150 different countries.  For now, we know that the vehicle will first be available in Thailand.

Thailand has already named it the Eco-car to symbolise the small Nissan’s low energy consumption.

In viewing the sketches, it’s a safe bet that the compact car will be replacing the Micra.  The car will also give Nissan an opportunity to try to conquer new territories, including North America, with smaller cars.

The car is expected to be shown at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show, where more information should become available.

The 370Z Roadster Priced for Competition

Still equipped with a 3.7-litre V6 engine, the 370Z Roadster makes driving a pleasure with 332 horses punching the wind. Though the engine remains the same, the mass of the car has changed since the roof is gone.

Fully-equipped Sport and Navigation packages will cost a maximum of $53 498 for manual and $54 998 for automatic.

Honda To Introduce Electric Car

The car is expected to comply to the increasingly stringent environmental standards, according to Japan’s Nikkei business daily.

Honda’s electric is set to be unveiled during the Tokyo auto show in October 2009.

Infiniti Chases After BMW

With an illusion worthy of David Copperfield’s approval, Infiniti announced its third generation of the M Series during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. At the show, an image flaunting the M-Series model was projected onto a 3D Styrofoam sculpture through the means of a state-of-the-art technology often used by auto designers.

The splendid redesign of the series strongly draws inspiration from Infiniti’s "Essence" concept car, which was presented in Geneva earlier this year.

In the hood of the M37, we will find a 3.7-litre V6 engine, which has already been seen as the driving force behind the G37, and the M56 will feature a 5.6-litre V8, boasting over 400 hp.

Infiniti also incorporates a climate control system with aromatherapy, as well as a detector that warns of vehicles in the blind spot.

The Infiniti M will make its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.
