Nothing’s Ear (2) wireless earbuds could look a lot like the Nothing Ear (1)s

Carl Pei’s Nothing Ear (1) earbuds were an overall critical success thanks to their great transparent design, decent battery life and a solid accompanying app.

Now, the London, England-based company is reportedly working on the successor to the Ear (1), and leaked press renders of the buds show a rather similar design.

First shared by reliable industry leaker @OnLeaks (via SmartPrix), the Ear (2)s seemingly only feature slight visual changes when compared to the Ear (1).

As reported by SmartPrix, the only external visual difference between the Ear (1) and the Ear (2) is the change in position of the noise-canceling microphone.

The microphone was located at the top of the earbud in the Ear (1), but has seemingly been moved to the side of the earbud, as seen in the image below. Minor internal changes also result in a slightly different look on the stem of the earbud.

SmartPrix also revealed that the new earbuds would feature personalized ANC, allowing the user to set the intensity of noise cancellation according to their preference. There will also be a transparency mode, which was also present on the Ear (1), alongside support for dual connectivity, allowing the device to be paired two two devices at once for ease of switching.

“Nothing is also adding support for Advanced EQ with the custom settings and the Find Earbuds Feature,” concluded SmartPrix.

It is currently unknown when the Ear (2) could release, but considering how detailed the press renders look, it could be a matter of weeks until we see the buds announced.

Nothing is hinting at a new product announcement ‘coming soon’

Carl Pei’s Nothing is doing well in the countries it launched the Nothing Phone (1) in. The company revealed that it has sold over 100,000 phones in India in the first 20 days of sale, with over 10 million signing up for notifications about the phone’s launch at Indian e-commerce retailer Flipkart (owned by Walmart).

Part of the reason why the phone is doing well is the way Nothing promoted it prior to its launch. Behind-the-scene videos, teaser trailers and constant hints on its social media were a good way for the company to garner potential customer attention, and it seems like the company is doing it again.

Nothing had been holding off on such cryptic teasers since the release of the Nothing Phone 1. However, on Thursday, September 15th, it shared a photo of a butterfly on Twitter, with the caption, “Sublime. Coming soon.”

Parrots were an integral part of Nothing Phone (1)’s teasers, and it looks like, whatever this new device is, will have butterflies in its promotional material. The new device could very well be a second-gen version of Nothing’s Ear (1) or a new red colourway for the Nothing Phone (1), judging by the butterfly’s red and transparent body. On the other hand, it could be a new product all together, like a smartwatch.

The company first teased the Nothing Phone 1 in March, and it wasn’t until July that the device was fully revealed. If Nothing is on a similar roadmap, it wouldn’t be before January that we get a full look at what the company’s new product is.

Which wireless earbuds do you prefer and why?

Wireless earbuds have grown significantly in popularity over the past few years. While there are a lot of earbuds out there, I still prefer Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Live over every other pair I’ve tried.

Even though their sound quality isn’t top-tier, I like how the bean-shaped wireless earbuds fit in my ear. To this day, I still haven’t found earbuds that are as comfortable, though Nothing’s earbuds aren’t that bad.

This week we want to know what wireless earbuds are your favourite wireless earbuds and why? Are you someone who prioritizes how comfortable your earbuds are, or is sound quality the most important factor? On the other hand, a lot of people prefer Apple’s AirPods because they can easily seamlessly switch between whatever Apple device you’re using.
