Google Pixel Watch fast pair notification appears on Redditor’s phone

Man, Google’s devices are getting leaked this week.

A Redditor in Sydney, Australia, was in a shopping mall and received a prompt by a Fast Pair notification to set up a Google Pixel Watch. The notification showed a picture of the wearable in black with its obsidian band.

The notification said that the device app is required to start setup, with an option to go to Google Play.

This notification seems possible. Wear OS 3 requires its manufacturers to make their own Wear OS companion app. And it was previously reported that Google is working on one for the Pixel Watch.

Google will officially unveil the Pixel 7, 7 Pro and the Pixel Watch on October 6th, where we’ll learn more about the companion app and the device itself.

Amazon U.S. indicates Pixel 7 will release on Oct. 13

Google’s Pixel 7 is one week from launch, but it looks like Amazon U.S. jumped the gun as the phone was spotted on the e-commerce site. Discovered by Brandon Lee, was Google’s upcoming flagship with an October 13th shipping date.

The handset retails for $599 USD (roughly $821 CAD), features 128GB of storage, sports Google’s second-generation Tensor processor and offers “the best photo and video quality yet on Pixel.”

The most significant piece of information in this listing is “this item will be released on October 13 2022,” giving us an actual release date for the smartphone. Of course, this might be incorrect, but it corroborates with a leak from Jon Prosser from back in August.

It seems like the press release has been removed from the company’s website.

We won’t know for sure until October 6th when Google officially unveils the Pixel 7 series, but if I were a betting man, I’d guess the phone will actually release on that date.

Google’s Pixel 7 and 7 Pro specs leak in full

Google will officially unveil the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro next week, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from churning. The specs for the two phones have been leaked in detail, revealing information about display size, cameras and more.

The leak comes from the accurate Yogesh Brar, and with it being so close to launch, these details might be what we see next week.

Starting with the Pixel 7 Pro, here’s Yogesh’s tweet.

Most of this is actually the same as last year’s Pixel 6 Pro. The only differences are that the Pixel 6 Pro had the original Tensor SoC and offered Android 12 at launch. Otherwise, the phone is practically the same.

Following this leak, Brar also shared details about the Pixel 7:

This handset seems to have a slightly bigger battery and a slightly smaller screen going from 6.4 inches to 6.3 inches. Otherwise, we’re looking at the same handset, other than the Tensor G2 SoC and Android 13.

We’ve also learned from Unbox Therapy that the Pixel 7 is easier to hold than the Pixel 6. And that the Pixel 7 Pro will have less of a curved display in comparison to last year’s Pixel 6 Pro.

Google will officially unveil the Pixel 7, and 7 Pro at its Made by Google event on October 6th at 10am ET.  Check out our ‘What to expect’ post to learn more about the upcoming event.

Are you excited for Google’s Pixel 7 event?

Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro launch on October 6th, with pre-orders dropping on the same day. Alongside the Pixel 7 series, the tech giant is poised to reveal the Pixel Watch completely.

Google first unveiled the two handsets and the smartwatch at its I/O event back in May. However, we’ve only recently had the chance to look at front of the handset.

The smartphone’s rear features a new aluminum finish on its visor, making it more striking than the current Pixel 6 series.

The Pixel 7 Pro will launch in ‘Obsidian,’ ‘Snow’ and ‘Hazel’ colours, whereas the Pixel 7 will come in ‘Obsidian,’ ‘Snow’ and ‘Lemongrass.’ Additionally, the smartphones’ will run Android 13 and include the next-generation of Google’s Tensor chip and more.

I hope we get a sneak peek at the upcoming Pixel tablet and maybe a few other surprises at Google’s event. However, I’m also very excited to get the Pixel 7 Pro in my hands eventually.

Are you excited for fall’s Made by Google event? Let us know in the comments below.

Front of Pixel 7 Pro shows up in official Google render for first time

As usual for a Google phone, we’ve seen a lot of the upcoming Pixel 7 and 7 Pro ahead of launch, thanks to plenty of official (and unofficial) pictures. One thing we haven’t officially seen is the front of the Pixel 7 Pro. At least, we haven’t until now.

9to5Google spotted an image (above) posted to the Pixel Superfans Facebook page that shows the front and back of the Pixel 7 Pro, finally confirming long-running rumours that Google toned down the curved display this year. Interestingly, the Superfans group is private, but Google put the official render as the public-facing header image.

Unfortunately, the image doesn’t offer any additional new information. It includes two renders of the Pixel Watch, the Pixel Buds Pro, and the back of the Pixel 7 Pro in the ‘Hazel’ colour.

As 9to5 points out, the official renders line up with previous leaks, namely a prototype Pixel 7 Pro that was heavily featured in hands-on videos earlier this year.

While fans of the curved display edge may lament the loss, it seems like a positive change to me. Curved display edges were all the rage a few years ago, but generally, phone manufacturers have moved away from them, perhaps because they suck. Curved screen edges are prone to accidental taps, distort what appears on the edge of the screen, are annoying for cases and screen protectors… the list could go on. I’m happy to see a subtle display curve on the Pixel 7 Pro this year.

We’ll likely learn more about the Pixel 7 Pro, as well as the Pixel 7, Pixel Watch, and other Google hardware, at the company’s upcoming October event.

Google’s Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be available to pre-order on October 6

Google has announced that pre-orders for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will open on October 6th, the day of the company’s big fall hardware keynote.

The tech giant revealed this information in a video that features Pixel fans checking out the new smartphones.

Oddly, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are censored in the video, which is weird given Google already revealed renders of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro back in May at Google I/O.

At the end of the clip, there’s tiny text on the screen that reads,”Pre-order starting October 6th, 2022.” Following that, you can hear fans saying at the end, “Wait! there’s a watch?” With this in mind, it’s possible that the Pixel Watch’s pre-order date might also be on October 6th.

A recent rumour suggests that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro won’t go on sale until September 18th. This leak goes on to state that the Pixel Watch won’t be available until November 4th. With this in mind, while the smartphone and possibly the watch will be available to pre-order on October 6th, you’ll likely need to wait a few weeks before you get the devices in your hands.

It’s worth noting that this ad is U.S.-based, so the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro may have a different pre-order date in Canada. MobileSyrup has reached out to Google for more information.

Leaked Pixel 7 Tensor G2 specs reveal stagnating CPU performance

Google recently revealed that it will launch its latest Pixel 7 lineup alongside the long-awaited Pixel Watch at its ‘Made by Google’ event scheduled for October 6th.

Following the news, Google updated the Pixel 7 product page on its website and revealed the Tensor chip’s successor. The chip in the Pixel 7 and Pixel  7 Pro will be called the Tensor G2, and is expected to “bring even more helpful, personalized features to photos, videos, security, and speech recognition,” when compared to the last-gen Pixel flagships.

Until recently, we didn’t know much else about the new chip, but thanks to the developer Kuba Wojciechowski, via SamMobile, we now know that Tensor G2 uses the same CPU cores (two Cortex-X1, two Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 cores) as the last-gen Tensor chip. The information comes via a Pixel 7 Pro Geekbench listing.

The Tensor G2 will reportedly be manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process, with minor clock speed improvements to the X1 and A76 CPU cores. “The A76 cluster has been bumped by 100 MHz, to 2.35 GHz, and the X1 cluster now runs 50 MHz faster than it did before, at 2.85 GHz,” wrote Wojciechowski. The minor advancements could result in a roughly 10 percent increase in multi-core performance, with a negligible improvement in single-core performance, all while prioritizing power efficiency.

Similarly, improvements on the GPU side reportedly offer 20 percent better gaming performance, 20 percent better power efficiency, and 35 percent improved machine learning performance. According to Wojciechowski, the improvements can be credited to the new Mali-G710 GPU, while the last-gen Tensor used the Mali-G78 GPU. “Google runs a huge part of their Google Camera pipeline on the GPU on their Tensor devices. It will certainly improve that considerably, as well as make the new Pixels way better at gaming,” wrote Wojciechowski.

Further, Tensor G2 will reportedly feature a new TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) with the codename “Janeiro,” to offer “incredible brand new AI experiences,” alongside a new S5300 modem for better connectivity.

Read more about the Tensor G2 in Wojciechowski’s Twitter thread here.

Google’s Pixel 7 and 7 Pro rumoured to release on October 18

Google’s Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are expected to launch within a month, but you might have to wait until October 18th to purchase the two handsets.

This leak regarding the smartphones’ release date comes from Caschys Blog. Front Page Tech, which originally leaked the Pixel 7 series, said that the phone would be on sale on October 13th. While Front Page Tech is a somewhat reliable source, the even more accurate Roland Quandt backed up Caschys Blog’s claims.

Further, the leak indicates that the Pixel Watch will launch a bit later, stating that it won’t hit the market until November 4th. Caschys Blog doesn’t specify what region this is referring to, but Android Police believes it’s for the U.S market. If so, the Canadian market will likely receive the update on the same day.

It’s worth noting that these are just leaks and we won’t know anything for sure until Google’s October 6th keynote.

Pixel 7 and 7 Pro reportedly will only have up to 256GB of storage

Google’s Pixel 7 and 7 Pro leaks are now coming out of the floodgate.

According to Roland Quandt and WinFuture, the Pixel 7 in Europe will come in two variants with 128GB and 256GB internal storage options. This is the same as the variants for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro last year. Quandt does say this is the European model, but I don’t believe the Canadian variant will be any different.

This is pretty unfortunate considering Samsung and Apple flagships are now hitting 1TB of storage. 256GB of storage, in comparison, is pretty laughable.

Alongside the 128 or 256GB of storage options, the Pixel 7 Pro is rumoured to feature 12GB of RAM and the standard model to sport 8GB of RAM. The Pixel 7 Pro will launch in ‘Obsidian,’ ‘Snow’ and ‘Hazel’ colours, whereas the Pixel 7 will come in ‘Obsidian,’ ‘Snow’ and ‘Lemongrass.’ Additionally, it will come with Android 13, the next generation of Google’s Tensor chip, and more.

Google will officially show off everything about the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro at its Made by Google event on October 6th alongside the Pixel Watch.
