Pixel Buds A-Series’ multi-pair broken after latest update

Google’s latest firmware update for the Pixel Buds A-Series seems to be doing more harm than good.

The latest update, ‘version 3.519.0,’ is meant to fix some underlying bugs, but seems to have broken the earbuds’ multi-device pairing ability.

It’s worth noting that the Pixel Buds A-Series’ multi-pair functionality was severely limited already. Unlike the Buds Pro, the Buds A-Series could only be paired to two devices, while being limited to being ‘connected’ to one device at once. Now, after the V3.519.0 update, even the two-device pairing seems to be broken.

The report comes via a Reddit thread about the new firmware update. According to users commenting on the thread, “After the update, it’s (the Buds A-Series) only able to be used by the last device which was paired. In other words, if I pair my notebook then my phone loses the ability to connect. If I then follow up by re-pairing my phone, then the notebook can no longer.”

User ‘TenderFlipper’ wrote that they even performed a factory reset of the buds, but that seemingly made no difference.

Essentially, whenever you need to connect your buds to a different device, you’ll have to re-pair them. Further, according to users, the only way to get the buds into pairing mode is fully resetting them by pressing the button on the back of the case for upwards of 20 seconds. Having to reset your earbuds every time you want to switch between devices is pretty infuriating.

If you own a pair of Pixel Buds A-Series buds and haven’t updated them to the latest firmware yet, don’t. If you’ve already updated, all you can do now is wait for a fix from Google. That said, onsidering that Google knows about the bug, the fix shouldn’t be that far out.

Fix for Pixel Buds A-Series bass slider bug may arrive soon

In December, Google rolled out an update to its budget-friendly Pixel Buds A-Series wireless earbuds that added a new slider for adjusting bass sounds. Except, an issue with the slider plagued users for months — a fix may now be on the way.

The problem? That the new bass slider doesn’t work. Instead, users claim the slider shows the intended bass level, but they need to adjust the slider and then put it back to the desired level to make it work. A Pixel Buds Help thread about the issue popped up in December, and saw some input from Googlers before things went quiet in March.

As reported by 9to5Google, users in the thread suddenly received an alert from a Google employee that there was a fix for the Buds A-Series problem. The Google post included a link to another Google Support page. However, the link doesn’t work and instead says the “page is no longer available.” Further, the aforementioned post doesn’t appear on the help thread in question.

“Good news everyone – we have a fix!

Go here to learn more: https://support.google.com/s/community/forum/407813/search/query%3Dbass%2Bslider/thread/169132761″ – message from Google

Some users said the support page mentioned an upcoming firmware update for the Pixel Buds A-Series before it became unavailable. It remains unclear what happened, although it seems likely Google removed the post for some reason.

As for why, well, 9to5 speculates the company published the notice early. Alternatively, it’s possible Google caught a bug with the firmware and slammed the brakes on the rollout.

One user said they suspect Google is waiting to push the fix alongside its Pixel Buds Pro release. Google announced the Buds Pro back at I/O in May, but it’s unclear when the company plans to release the earbuds. While an interesting theory, I’m not sure I buy into it.

Anyway, the good news here is that there is a fix for the bass slider issue plaguing the Pixel Buds A-Series. The bad news? Google hasn’t released it yet, and it’s uncertain when the company will.

Pixel 6/6 Pro buyers that missed out on the free Pixel Buds A-Series – Check your email

Google’s latest Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro pre-orders in Canada and the U.S. qualify for a free pair of Pixel Buds A-Series.

We recently shared that if you rushed through your order and forgot to add the free Pixel Buds, you don’t need to worry. Google said that customers who didn’t add the earbuds to their cart will still receive them via an email with a redeemable code. Well, those emails have started hitting Canadian customers’ inboxes today.

Simply click ‘Redeem Offer’ in the email, select the colour of A-Series buds you want (the ‘Dark Olive’ colourway is sold out), and proceed to checkout. A 100 percent discount coupon code will automatically be added to your order, changing the price from $139 to $0.

And that’s it. Once you’ve placed the order, you can sit back and relax. Your Pixel Buds A-Series will be delivered to your doorstep, hopefully, before your Pixel 6/6 Pro arrives.

Google’s Pixel Buds A-Series are on sale at Best Buy for $119

Google’s Pixel Buds A-Series, the entry-level version of the tech giant’s wireless earbuds, are now on sale for $119 — down from their regular price of $139 ($20 off).

While not a sizable discount, this is the first A-Series Buds price cut I’ve seen. The price drop seems to be across the board, and includes retailers like Best Buy, Staples, the Google Store and more.

While I found that the Pixel Buds A-Series doesn’t sound quite as good as the more expensive Pixel Buds (2020), they’re still a cost-effective option if you’re looking for a new pair of wireless earbuds.

Even better, they don’t suffer from the intermittent Bluetooth connection issues that their more expensive counterpart do; in fact, you can’t even purchase Pixel Buds (2020) from Google anymore.
