Here are the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet and iPhone 15 Pro leaks from this week

With I/O around the corner, Google’s Pixel slate of upcoming devices has leaked extensively over the past week.

Below is a collection of all of this week’s reports and rumours surrounding the smartphone and tablet world.

Google

Let’s start with the biggest news first. The Pixel Fold’s potential specs have surfaced online. The leak indicates that the Fold will sport 12GB of RAM, a Tensor G2 chip with the Titan M2 security chip. As for dimensions, the handset will allegedly feature an outer 5.8-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 2092 x 1080 pixel resolution. The inner, foldable display sits at 7.6 inches with ultra-thin glass protected by plastic.

The leak also suggests the handset features a 48-megapixel main sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, as well as a selfie camera with a 9.5-megapixel sensor.

You can learn more about the leak here.

Another leak detailed the potential launch and availability dates of the Pixel Fold, Pixel 7a and Pixel Tablet. Leaker Jon Prosser says the Fold will be announced on May 10th, and pre-orders open from Google the same day. However, the rumour suggests the Fold won’t have carrier pre-orders until May 30th and will launch on June 27th. The leaker indicates the handset will cost $1,799 USD (about $2,411.72 CAD).

The Pixel 7a will also come in ‘Charcoal,’ ‘Snow,’ and ‘Sea (light blue),’ and the Google Store will have an exclusive ‘Coral’ variant. The handset will be available to purchase on May 10th. The Pixel Tablet will launch with Tensor G2, Android 13, with 8GB of RAM. It will also sport two storage configurations.

While not part of this leak, another rumour suggested that the Pixel Tablet will come in 256GB and 128GB storage variants. This leak indicated that the tablet will cost around €600 (aproximately $880 CAD) to €650 (roughly $960 CAD).

The Pixel 7a is expected to arrive at retail stores within the next 14 days, according to another recent leak. However, there are no signs of the Pixel Fold (which corroborates the earlier leak of a June launch).

The Pixel Fold will reportedly have the “most durable hinge on a foldable.” CNBC also reports that Google will announce the Fold at I/O 2023 on May 10th. The publication goes on to detail the specifications of the Pixel Fold. The foldable has water resistance, a 5.8-inch external screen and will open like a book to reveal a 7.6-inch display like the Z Fold 4. The Pixel Fold will also weigh about 10oz (about 283.5g) and will have a larger battery than the Z Fold 4, which Google says will last 24 hours.

You can learn more about the leak here.

The Pixel 7a might see a $50 price increase over the Pixel 6a in the U.S., though it’s unclear how much the Pixel 7a will cost in Canada.

You can learn more about the leak here.

Apple

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will reportedly feature frosted glass similar to the Pro models, according to a Weibo user. The frosted glass would make the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus look more similar to the Pro models.

You can learn more about the leak here.

The iPhone 15 Pro is to continue with the Action button, according to a leak from this past week.

The leaker indicates that the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button is going ahead as planned, despite other rumours.

Alongside all these details, the leaker indicates the Action button will be force-sensitive, similar to 3D touch, so it can understand if you’re tapping it, pressing it lightly or hard.

Upcoming Pixel Tablet shown off at Milan Design Week 2023

Google Design is taking part in Milan Design Week this year with its own exhibit, “Shaped by Water,” and included on display is the company’s upcoming Pixel Tablet.

The highly anticipated tablet was shown off in three distinct colour variants: pale green, pale white, and pale pink. Official naming for each colour option has yet to be revealed.

This is our first real look at the new pink version, and it seems to match the other options with its muted colour palette. A fourth colour variant is also expected to be revealed.

Interestingly, the rumoured privacy switch is nowhere to be seen on the body of the tablets. It’s possible Google is waiting for the official launch of the product to showcase the unique hardware addition.

The Pixel Tablet is flanked by various other Pixel products and accessories on the display table. Together, they make up a portion of Google Design’s overall exhibit at the event.

The Pixel Tablet is rumoured to launch around the time of Google I/O in May.

Google Pixel Tablet rumoured to cost €600-€650

The Google Pixel Tablet has been leaked a lot in the past few weeks, and we’re now seeing another rumour from the reliable leaker Roland Quandt.

While 9to5Google was previously able to leak that there will be two storage configurations, they were unable to say what those configurations are. Quandt has revealed that the Pixel Tablet will come in 128GB and 256GB variants. Quandt has also unveiled that the Pixel Tablet will cost around €600 (roughly $880 CAD) to €650 (roughly $960 CAD), which is pretty expensive for a tablet, but likely this means that it comes with its dock.

However, it’s worth noting that the iPad in Europe costs €580 (roughly $860 CAD), so it’s possible that Google is trying to match up with its competition.

A leak on Amazon showed the tablet’s dock retailing at $120, but considering it wasn’t from Google itself, it’s hard to say that’ll be the cost of the dock.

The Pixel Tablet is expected to launch alongside the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a on May 10th at Google I/O. Other rumours about the Pixel Tablet indicate that the device will feature 8GB of RAM, Tensor G2 and more.

Upcoming Pixel Tablet dock shows up in Amazon listing

A listing for the upcoming Pixel Tablet’s dock was briefly available on Amazon.

The user posted the Pixel Tablet Standalone Charging Dock in ‘Hazel’  for $129 USD (roughly $173 CAD). Before the link was taken down, the description read, “the unique Pixel Tablet Charging Speaker Dock keeps your tablet charged and ready 24/7; and it’s easy to dock and undock.”

Other information from the listing includes the model number, product dimensions (‎6.65 x 3.71 x 2.77 inches,) and weight of 14.2oz (roughly 402g).

Google first announced that it was working on the Pixel Tablet last year in May. It was showcased alongside a unique charging speaker dock and given a 2023 release window.

With Google I/O 2023 just around the corner, many expect the company to officially unveil the new tablet and dock during the conference.

It remains unclear whether the tablet will include the dock in the box or if it will be made available only as a separate purchase.

Google I/O takes place on May 10th, where we’re expecting to see the Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7a. Recent leaks indicate the Pixel Tablet will launch with Tensor G2, Android 13, with 8GB of RAM.

Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7a to launch on May 10: report

Google’s May 10th I/O event is now rumoured to have some pretty exciting hardware announcements.

Leaker Jon Prosser, who has been pretty accurate with Google leaks in the past, has revealed information about the upcoming launch and release dates for the Pixel Fold, Pixel 7a and the Pixel Tablet.

Pressor says that the Pixel Fold will get announced on May 10th and pre-orders open from Google the same day, but carriers won’t open pre-orders until May 30th, and the phone will launch on June 27th. Further, he indicates the handset will cost $1,799 USD (about $2,411.72 CAD).

The Pixel 7a will come in ‘Charcoal,’ ‘Snow,’ ‘Sea’ (light blue), and the Google Store will have an exclusive ‘Coral’ variant. The handset will be available to purchase on May 10th, and weirdly, the Pixel 6a reportedly won’t be discontinued. That last bit is pretty confusing, as typically, one would replace the other. We’ll have to wait to learn more.

Finally, Prosser says that the Pixel Tablet will also get the May 10th announcement, but that’s all he says about that device. However, 9to5Google has a bit more information about the Pixel Tablet.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the Pixel Tablet will come in four colour sets, though we only know two of them for now. The first has a green rear and black bezels, and the second has a white bezel and beige/white rear. The tablet will offer an aluminum body with a nano-ceramic finish similar to porcelain. Google says that the device has a “soft matte look and textured feel.”

The Pixel Tablet will launch with Tensor G2, Android 13, with 8GB of RAM. It will also have two storage options, but the storage configurations aren’t mentioned.

The Charger Speaker Dock connects via pogo pins and receives power from a barrel jack, similar to the Nest Hub Max.

Google will announce this alongside the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold on May 10th with a rumoured release window of June.

Latest Pixel Tablet leak shows possible privacy switch… or does it?

We’ve known that Google has been working on a Pixel Tablet for some time, basically since Google I/O 2022 when the company first teased the device. At this point, it seems like we’ve learned everything there is to learn from leaks and teases from Google, but a new leak points to something we haven’t seen before; a privacy switch.

Well. It might be a privacy switch. It’s definitely a button and we haven’t seen it before.

Leaker SnoopyTech posted two images showing the front and back of the Pixel Tablet and questioned whether Google chose the “best design.” While at first glance, there’s nothing we haven’t seen before, Android Police says it looks like there’s a privacy switch on the edge of the tablet.

In the picture of the back of the Pixel Tablet, Android Police says, “you can see a switch on the top left above what we believe to be the volume controls.” Frankly, I don’t see it.

What I do see are two buttons on the left side of the top edge of the tablet, near the camera. I also see what looks like a button on the top end of the left edge (technically the right edge since we’re viewing it from the back) near the camera. The only other things I see on the edges of the tablet in this picture are what appear to be speakers and a USB-C charging port.

So, I count three buttons total, which likely will be volume up/down and power.

Android Police does go on to say that the buttons on the edge of the tablet haven’t appeared in previous Google imagery of the Pixel Tablet, and I do agree there.

Looking back over the various images shared by Google in teasers and that corner of the Pixle Tablet isn’t prominently featured in most. When it is, it’s not clear enough to make out details like buttons. Similarly, most Pixel Tablet leaks don’t offer a clear view of the top edge of the tablet. And the button on the side of the tablet definitely hasn’t appeared in previous leaks and teases.

However, I did come across a leak we covered from leaker Kuba Wojciechowski, who shared photos of a Pixel Tablet that they received. Two of the images show the top edge clearly enough that you can see two buttons up there near the camera, just like in the SnoopyTech image. My guess is those are the volume buttons. However, Wojciechowski’s pictures don’t clearly show the right edge of the tablet where the other mystery button resides.

Of course, the pictures from Wojciechowski are likely a pre-release unit of some kind, and therefore, it’s possible Google could have added to the hardware. But I have some serious doubts about the claim of a privacy switch.

That said, adding a privacy switch would be a really good idea for the Pixel Tablet, especially since Google is positioning it as a hybrid smart home device. Google’s Nest Hubs have privacy switches to disable the camera and microphone when users want some privacy — with the Pixel Tablet set to replace the Nest Hub, it would only make sense for it to have a privacy switch as well.

We likely won’t have to wait longer to find out whether the Pixel Tablet has a privacy switch. Google will likely reveal the tablet at I/O in May.

Pixel Tablet spotted on Canadian Radio Equipment List and FCC

Google unveiled the Pixel Tablet at its 2022 hardware event, where we learned the tablet will launch at some point in 2023.

Since then, we’ve seen leaks regarding the upcoming tablet, but we’ve yet to get official word from Google regarding a release date. Now, we’re seeing the device on Canada’s Radio Equipment List and Federal Communications Commission’s website.

The tablet was approved by the Canadian government on April 4th and had the model number GTU8P. As for the U.S.’s FCC (via 9to5Google), the tablet has the same model number, but it’s described as an Android handheld device that lacks cellular connectivity.

The FCC listing indicates the Pixel Tablet features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ultra-wideband support. An ultra-wideband connection could give the HomePod-like handoff0like functionality similar to how Apple’s iPhone can connect to a HomePod just by being close to it. Ultra-wideband could also be used with the Pixel Tablet’s dock, which turns the tablet into a Nest Hub Max.

It’s still unclear when Google will launch the Pixel Tablet; however, with the Pixel Tablet showing up on Canada’s REL and the FCC, it’s possible we’ll see this device at Google I/O on May 10th, alongside possibly the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold.

Google’s sleek-looking Pixel Tablet dock showcased in new leak

Google’s Pixel Tablet is expected to launch sometime this year, and with the release drawing closer, we’re starting to see more information leak about the upcoming tablet/smart home hybrid device.

This latest leak from SnoopyTech showcases the Pixel Tablet’s stand. While we’ve seen the tablet and its stand in promotional material in the past, we haven’t caught a glimpse of it from angles like this.

The tablet’s stand features a gray colour that will likely be called ‘Chalk’ and features what looks like the same fabric as other Nest devices. It also looks like it uses the same power supply as the Nest Hub. Finally, there’s a Google ‘G’ logo on the back of the speaker and another on the stand’s surface, alongside a hardware button.

According to a previous rumour, the Pixel Tablet’s ‘Hub Mode’ activates when you place the tablet on the stand, allowing you to assign the dock to a room, similar to other smart home speakers.

It’s unclear when the Pixel Tablet will release, but it will likely release alongside the Pixel 7a at Google I/O on May 10th.

More Pixel Tablet details emerge, confirm no ‘pro’ variant

We’ve known for a while that Google is working on a Pixel Tablet — the company has teased the tablet multiple times already. However, beyond snippets of information from Google, we’ve had to rely on leaks and rumours for everything else we know. Well, the latest leak indicates some previous information about the Pixel Tablet was incorrect, namely the existence of a Pixel Tablet Pro.

Researcher and leaker Kuba Wojciechowski took to Twitter to share a new round of information about Google’s upcoming tablet. Wojciechowski started by explaining new information that supersedes their previous leak about the Pro tablet, based on uncovered codenames ‘tangor’ and ‘tangorpro.’ In short, Wojciechowski learned that tangorpro actually replaces the tangor variant of the Pixel Tablet — the only major difference between the two devices was the chip, with tangor using the first-gen Tensor and tangorpro using Tensor G2.

Wojciechowski tweeted that Google cancelled the tangor project and that we’re likely to get one Pixel Tablet — the tangorpro variant.

Moreover, Wojciechowski shared some information on the tablet’s other specs, citing an anonymous source. The Pixel Tablet will reportedly include 8GB of Samsung LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of Kioxia UFS storage. The tablet will also sport a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution display. Wojciechowski  noted details of the display driver, writing that it’s “typically used for driving the backlight layer on LCDs, which means that the Pixel Tablet most likely doesn’t have an OLED screen.”

The Pixel Tablet does have two docking station options, one with a speaker and one that’s just for charging, as previously rumoured.

Finally, Wojciechowski shared several pictures of a Pixel Tablet on a charging stand, but the pictures don’t really reveal much we didn’t already know about the device. The biggest piece of information is a sticker on the tablet with the acronym ‘EVT,’ which stands for “engineering validation test.” According to 9to5Google, EVT is a common step in building and testing a new device. The stickers also reference the two docking stations.

Someone’s selling an unreleased Pixel Tablet on Facebook Marketplace

Google’s upcoming Pixel Tablet and ‘Charging Speaker Dock’ showed up for sale on Facebook Marketplace with several pictures showing off the device.

The search giant has given us a few glimpses of the tablet already, but aside from a vague 2023 release timeframe and some other basic details, we still don’t know a ton about the tablet. However, the Pixel Tablet for sale on Facebook Marketplace gives us some more information.

Spotted by leaker’ShrimpApplePro’ on Twitter, images in the Marketplace listing show the Pixel Tablet’s home screen (which looks a lot like the Pixel Launcher with a tablet-friend layout), the settings app with a two-column layout, how the Pixel Tablet looks sitting on the charging dock (like a thick Nest Hub Max) and a close-up of the charging dock itself.

We can see from the image of the Settings screen that the tablet has 256GB of storage and 70 percent battery with an estimated 15 hours and 54 minutes of remaining life. Moreover, 9to5Google was able to make out a USB-C port on the left edge of the tablet in one shot.

As for the charging dock, you can see four metal contacts on it — there are likely four metal contacts on the back of the Pixel Tablet too for connecting it to the dock. 9to5 notes that the charging dock’s port looks similar to the port on the Nest Hub Max, and the pictured power adapter also looks a lot like the one for the Nest Hub Max. It’s possible it could be the same 30W adapter with a barrel connector.

We’ll likely learn more about the Pixel Tablet in the coming weeks, either from continued leaks or possibly a full reveal from Google in the new year. My guess is someone will purchase the tablet from Facebook Marketplace and post more details online, but we’ll see what happens.
