Pokémon fans reimagine the Pokémon Red and Blue I’ve always wanted

A small group of fans have reimagined Pokémon Red and Blue. The team took the original game’s artwork and ran with it, fully realizing the world with a modern vision.

A Twitter account under the guide @Pokeyugami posted a short clip of its remake of the Gen-1 games. The account claims that the group is comprised of those “creating fan art with the theme of Pokémon in [a] space-time different from ours.” In a post, the account shows a brief look at a reimagined Viridian forest, an early location in the game.

Pokémon Red and Blue features a sprite-heavy art design when exploring the world and navigating from town to town. However, when in battles, the game transitions to a beautiful art style, showcasing each Pokémon. Pokeyugami took that aspect and blends it with a 3D-inspired design. The result is a painted art style that maintains the original look of each Pokémon.

The short 17-second clips show us Weedle, Caterpie, and Pikachu, who at the time had a slightly different design. Even the look of the Bug Catcher trainer is maintained yet updated.

While I certainly love the attention to detail and care put into the project, it is an unofficial fan’s piece of work. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have no ties to this remake. With that in mind, my dreams of playing this remake are very slim.

That said, The Pokémon Company has been experimenting with various art styles in recent years. Pokémon Let’s Go Pickachu and Eevee incorporate some heavy use of 3D models and environments. This trend continued in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Additionally, Pokémon Legends Arceus takes a very different route and delivers on an open-world vision. Finally, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl incorporate a Chibi-style design into their world.

While I don’t expect Pokémon games to ever adopt an art style like this, I can appreciate there are those who value the original art style first brought to light in 1996.

Pokémon Home 2.0 adds compatibility with latest Nintendo Switch titles

Pokémon Home 2.0 is available now.

The Pokémon Company is rolling out its major software update for its app on mobile and Nintendo Switch. Version 2.0 is the largest update the service has seen since its launch. It also adds some much-desired compatibility for newer Pokémon titles.

Starting today, Pokémon Home’s cloud service is available for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, and Pokémon Shining Pearl. This means that Pokémon trainers can now transfer, manage, and store their collection of pocket monsters between these newer games.

In addition, Pokémon Home Version 2.0 introduces Strange Balls. The Pokémon Company states that Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place “in the distant past of the world of Pokémon.” Due to this, any Pokémon caught in other tentpole titles will appear in Strange Balls. Though, Pokémon caught in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will appear in standard Poké Balls in other games.

Additionally, The Pokémon Company is celebrating the launch of Version 2.0 by offering special Pokémon when linking games.

When linking Pokémon Legends: Arceus with Pokémon Home, players will receive Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshawott with maximum effort levels as Mystery Gifts. These are accessible within the app on iOS and Android.

Likewise, players linking Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl into the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon Home will receive Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup with Hidden Abilities.

Finally, Pokémon Home Version 2.0 adds new achievements and stickers. These can be obtained by reaching certain milestones or meeting certain conditions in the mobile device version of Pokémon Home.

Pokémon Home Version 2.0 is available on iO, Android and Switch.

Nintendo fans make Studio Ghibli inspired Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer

Two Nintendo fans have released a Ghibli-inspired fan trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Self-proclaimed “Nintendo fangirls” Channy and Kimberly have shared their version of the Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer that bears a resemblance to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke.

This is only a 57-second video that features its own custom Studio Ghibli logo with Snorlax and Hisuian Growlithe instead of the spirit Totoro. The trailer also shows the protagonist riding on a Wyrdeer, similar to Ashitaka riding his loyal red elk Yakul.

Christina Aguilera says Pokémon Legends: Arceus is ‘gorgeous’

Pokémon Legends: Arceus isn’t completely done yet, but it is playable, according to artist Christina Aguilera.

In an interview with ElleAguilera said that during the brief Nintendo Switch advertisement she shot with her family, her daughter fell in love with Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

“It’s so gorgeous, the graphics and the setting that you get to explore in, so she was loving that so much, she wouldn’t give me a turn,” said the singer.

The game isn’t finished (“gone gold”), Aguilera explained, and it was solely available on the Switch that her daughter used during the ad.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus launches on January 28th, so it makes sense that the title hasn’t gone gold yet. The game will launch on the Nintendo Switch and is available for pre-order for $79.99 from Amazon

New trailers launch for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Legends: Arceus

Two trailers have launched for Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer shows off the new Noble Pokémon, including powerful boss fights and Pocket Monsters becoming ‘Frenzied.’

Additionally, the trailer showcases how riding Wyrdeer, Basculegion, Braviary can get you across different terrain in the game. The trailer also reveals Jubifife Village, a town where you’ll be able to update your appearance and take pictures in a photography studio.

It looks like there are Warden’s around the region that you’ll have to battle, giving us our first glimpse at trainer battles in Arceus. Finally, the trailer shows off Kleavor, a Bug/Rock-type evolution of Kanto’s Scyther.

A new trailer also dropped for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, showing off the return of Pokétch with the Dowsing Machine and Hidden Moves (like Fly, Cut and Surf).

In the trailer, the game shows off how to create Poffins and that you’ll be able to run around with all six of your Pokémon in Amity Square.

Unfortunately, there are still no signs of Mega Pokémon coming to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch on November 19th, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases on January 28th for the Nintendo Switch.
