What it’s like to drive the fastest Porsche Taycan (Video)

We went hands-on again with the Porsche Taycan.

This time it was the ultra-fast Taycan Turbo S trim, so we decided to make a video.

If you want to read my written thoughts from my time with a regular Taycan from earlier this year, you can find the full story here.

The video below touches on many of the same points but focuses a lot more on some of the finer details of driving the machine.

Chris Brown crashes car

Chris Brown blames the paparazzi for causing him to crash his car.

The ‘Turn Up The Music’ singer – who was recently accused of faking his court-ordered community service records as part of his five year probation for beating his girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 – claims he was cut off by "aggressive" photographers leading him to crash and "total" his black Porsche in Los Angeles on Saturday (02.09.13).

A spokesperson for the 23-year-old star, who is attending the Grammy Awards with the ‘Diamonds’ singer, 24, tonight (02.10.13), told gossip website TMZ.com: "The occupants jumped out, with cameras, and aggressively approached his vehicle. In an effort to remove himself from the situation, he began to back down an alley at which point his was cut off by two additional vehicles.

"Chris’ vehicle was totaled due to this aggressive pursuit by the paparazzi. He is okay."

A spokesperson for the Beverly Hills Police department confirmed that Chris crashed into a wall, saying: "On February 9, 2013 at approximately 12:03pm, entertainer Chris Brown was involved in a solo, non-injury traffic collision in the 600 Block Bedford Drive/Camden Drive alley. Mr. Brown was the driver of the vehicle and collided with a wall. Brown stated that he was being chased by paparazzi causing him to lose control of his vehicle. Brown’s Black Porsche was towed from the scene at his request."

Chris said a day in his shoes is like "a day in hell" during a meltdown on Instagram earlier this week.

He wrote: "I’m wise I can handle the hate but enough is enough yo!!

"Just when everything seems to be going good, some new s**t happens. A day in my shoes is a day in hell, believe it or not! (sic)"

The R&B star was not specific about what is bothering him, but if the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s allegations of fabricating his community service are upheld, his probation could be revoked.

Porsche Presents the 911 GT3 R

Derived from the Porsche 911 Carrera 2, the 911 GT3 is a road car.  Though an extreme version is available, the GT3 RS is meant for open roads.  Now a new member of the family is being introduced: the 911 GT3 R.

This race car is designed to compete in the GT3 category of international competitions, including Le Mans.

At the rear of the car, we find a 6-cylinder 4-litre engine with an output of 480 horsepower.  The interior has been reduced to the absolute minimum, allowing the new Porsche not to exceed 1200 kilos.

Its style is unmatched, and so is the price.  The car’s sticker reads 279 000 euros ($440 000 CAD).  The Porsche 911 GT3 R will be officially presented on January 14, 2010 at the auto show in Birmingham.

A Mouth-Watering Porsche 911

A Porsche dealership, however, wants to deviate from these traditions and ring in the holidays with a chocolate-covered Porsche 911 Carrera.

Located in Holland, the show room housing the Porsche 911 delicacy must be kept at 27 degrees to prevent the chocolate from melting.

To reassure fans of the Stuttgart brand, the 911 Carrera S was first covered in plastic before being smothered with 175 kilograms of chocolate.

The Porsche Boxster Spyder

The Boxster Spyder was inspired by the 550 Spyder of 1953, and as expected, it’s deliciously retro.

The Stuttgart manufacturer presents the Boxster Spyder as the most radical of their trademark small convertibles.  Thanks to a lighter frame and aluminum doors, the Spyder weighs a mere 1275 kilograms.

The mechanics of the machine are also impressive.  The 6-cylinder 3.4-litre engine increases horsepower by 10, bumping the total up to 320 hp.  With the centre of gravity lowered by 20 mm and a standard limited slip differential, this Boxster delivers sound performance to complement its stylistic flair. The Boxster Spyder can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 267 km/h.

Hitting the market in February 2010, the Boxster Spyder will come with a price tag of $72 900.

Porsche Calendars

This year, not one but three calendars are being proposed by Zuffenhausen.

The first is a general calendar featuring quality photos of the Porsche range, and will cost $59 USD.

The second one comes as a limited edition, and has been named the Style Calendar, with the Porsche Panamera as the central focal point. It includes 12 different representations of the sedan and a screensaver on CD-ROM. The price is marked at $81, with only 4 000 copies available.

Finally, the last calendar is an homage to several of Porsche’s past models. Some of them have never been seen before, which makes this gift quite the surprise. To unleash the suspense, it’ll cost $72.

Porsche lovers, you know what to ask from Santa!

The Lotus Evora Rolls Into Canada

The latest edition to the English carmaker’s family will be sold in Canada, beginning in the first quarter of 2010.

More civilized than the little Elise, the Lotus Evora will also be more luxurious and spacious, with 2 extra seats in the back.  The car’s power will come from a 3.5-litre Toyota V6 engine (as in the Camry) that puts out 276 horsepower.  The Evora moves from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1, and boasts a top speed of 261 km/h.

Roughly 150 of the Evoras should make their way to Canada each year, with a price tag of $70 000.  The price makes the car very comparable to the Porsche Cayman.

The Porsche 911 Sport Classic

Visually, the tribute to history is an evocation of the legendary Carrera RS 2.7 of 1973, with a ducktail spoiler instead of the usual retractable spoiler.

The car also features Fuchs-style 19-inch wheels and a wider 44-mm rear body.  The classic grey model also comes with a double-dome roof.  The modifications aren’t limited to the exterior.  Inside, the car is equipped with brown leather upholstery.

Finally, what’s under the hood is also quite impressive, with 403 horsepower.  An optional sport package is available for suspension, which lowers the car’s body by 20 mm.  Limited slip differential is a standard feature on the car.

In order to become the owner of one of the only 250 Porsche 911 Sport Classics, you’ll need to hand over the dough, because the car comes with a price tag of 169 300 euros, or roughly $266 500 CAN.

Farewell to the Panamera and Cayenne

The power struggle between VW and Porsche has come to an end, and with it will come the end of Wendelin Wiedeking’s reign as the director of Porsche. Wiedeking was responsible for shifting production at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory, which formerly manufactured 2-door sports cars, to building SUVs and sedans.

Meanwhile VW chairman Ferdinand Piëch wants to get Porsche back to its basics. As a result, two Porsche products, the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne SUV, will be scrapped and will disappear at the end of their production cycles in 2016.

In the meantime, we may see an entry-level model, based on a VW platform, that will take after the Porsche 356, along with a sports car to be part of the Carrera GT line.
