Producers Consider Splitting Last Twilight Film

While the last book on Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, became the object of two films, now Twilight producers are thinking of doing the same thing.

According to Variety, Summit Entertainment is considering splitting Breaking Dawn, Stephenie Meyer’s final novel of her vampire saga, into two films.

The only problem would involve the actors’ salaries. The current contract covers the four films, but at the time of signing for the films, none of the actors were extremely popular. However, now, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have shot to international stardom, and could ask for eight-digit salaries for the fifth film.

To date, the first Twilight film was released in 2008 with a budget of 37 million dollars, and earned 351 million worldwide. However, New Moon, which opened on November 20, smashed that record, and will soon gross somewhere in the 500 million dollar range from a working budget of 50 million dollars.

In addition, it was reported that Stephenie Meyer, director Chris Weitz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg are asking for large compensations.

No decision has been made as of yet, so as it stands, Breaking Dawn is still set to be a single film to reach theatres in 2011. The third instalment, Eclipse, will hit the big screen on June 30, 2010.

New Moon Leaves the Others on the Dark Side

The Twilight Saga: New Moon literally stormed the box office over the weekend, earning $140.7 million.  The impressive receipts made the film the third biggest weekend opener in history, behind The Dark Knight, with $158 million, and Spider-Man 3, which earned $151 million.

The second most-viewed film of the weekend was The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock.  With just $34.5 million earned, the biopic was no competition for the vampire drama.  The top ranked film of last week, 2012, dropped to third place this week, taking in $26.5 million.  Last week, the same film earned $65.2 million.

The family-friendly animated flick, Planet 51, earned $12.6 million. Disney’s A Christmas Carol rounded out the top five with $12.2 million, taking its total earnings up to $80 million in three weeks.

The success of New Moon is particularly interesting, given that it wasn’t released during the summer holidays.  However, its opening day numbers paled in comparison to The Dark Knight on opening day.  New Moon brought in $26.3 million on day one, while The Dark Knight frenzy resulted in $72.7 million on opening day.

Twilight, the first film of the vampire franchise, has earned $383 million worldwide.

A Fan Strips for Robert Pattinson

Recently, Pattinson learned that he’s got to think twice before blurting out something to his fans. In an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Twilight star confessed that a fan got undressed for him.

He recounted that during a recent session of signing over 500 autographs, he began to get a little tired. When a young gal asked him how she could get his attention, the actor revealed that he said, "I was like, um, just take your clothes off."

The fan began to do exactly that. Pattinson described, "She stood there and frantically started taking her clothes off and got dragged out of the room by security. I never felt more terrible . . . I sound like I’m actually just abusing my position."

On the subject of nudity, DeGeneres asked Pattinson if he plans to get undressed in front of the cameras, but he wasn’t too sure.

In the second Twilight film, New Moon, Robert Pattinson will have a bare torso. He revealed that he’s never been as proud of his appearance as he is now.

Lautner explained, "All of a sudden security comes up to the room and they say, ‘Hey, so 2,000 fans just broke into the hotel and the police with riot gear are trying to keep them out of this room.’ We’re like, ‘What do we do? What?’"

The two stars, who have major roles in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, began a global promotional tour last Sunday (November 8).  The film opens next week on November 20.

Kristen Stewart Doesn’t Want to Be Angelina Jolie

The Twilight star insists that she isn’t looking for fame and has no aspirations to become the next Angelina, reports Orange County Review.

Stewart, who shot to stardom with her role in the vampire film franchise, compares her Hollywood life to the life of Robert Pattinson’s Twilight character, Edward, whom she describes as "sad, desolate".

She explained, "I don’t want to be a movie star like Angelina Jolie. Nothing about being a celebrity is desirable. I’m an actor. It’s bizarre to me that everybody’s so obsessive. I had no idea it would turn out like this when I signed up for the movie."

The actress added that she’s happy that her success has thus far been low-key, because she feels that she could never survive superstardom.  Again, comparing herself to the vampire character, she said, "Edward is actually a really good parallel to fame.  As a vampire he has a sad, desolate life – fame is the same."

The second film of the franchise, New Moon, hits theatres on November 20.

Robert Pattinson Inspired by James Dean

Pattinson told USA Weekend that he drew inspiration from James Dean to come up with his enigmatic Twilight vampire character.

Before he filmed the first instalment of the franchise, Pattinson did a lot of research and mentioned the film Rebel Without a Cause starring James Dean, which helped him discover his on-screen persona.

"Rebel Without A Cause was a big influence on the first (Twilight film) – it influenced the hairdo and stuff. In lots of ways, it has a very similar character arc: an everyday girl brings this relatively strange individual out of his slump," explained the actor.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens in theatres on November 20.

Robert Pattinson Unlucky in Love

The Twilight actor has become an idol since he started playing the role of vampire Edward Cullen in the hit film. However, he says that girls are not interested in him as a real person, reports FemaleFirst.

The 23-year-old star stated, "Girls scream out for Edward, not Robert. I still can’t get a date."

Even though he hasn’t had much luck with finding a girlfriend, Pattinson says that he is not really after attention from girls. He actually hopes that the attention will dwindle after the release of the second film of the franchise.

"I’m not the lead in the second film. Taylor Lautner is. I appear in Bella’s dreams. So I’m in it but the focus is not on me," explained the actor, who is often linked with his Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart.
