Robert Pattinson, who stars in the independent film How to Be, once thought about quitting acting for music, according to director Oliver Irving.
"He was thinking about giving up acting and maybe doing music solely when this role [in How To Be] came along," Irving explained to People.
How to Be was filmed before Twilight and Harry Potter. The actor wasn’t landing the roles that he wanted, and began looking for more challenging roles.
For How to Be, the actor had to learn to play the guitar, harmonica, and had to refrain from cutting his hair.
Oliver Irving is glad that Pattinson’s career has come so far. "He’s very down to earth and unpretentious. I think that’s probably what makes him appealing," he said.
