Pixel 6, 6a, 6 Pro on sale at Amazon again

Google’s Pixel 7 event is just around the corner, but if you don’t care for the Pixel 7 series based on what we know so far, you might want to take advantage of discounts on the Pixel 6a, 6, and 6 Pro.

Amazon Canada currently has all three phones on sale. Granted, none of the discounts are crazy, but given how expensive smartphones are these days, any discount is welcome.

Check out the prices below:

  • Pixel 6a – $539.99 (regular $599)
  • Pixel 6 – $769.99 (regular $799)
  • Pixel 6 Pro – $970.59 (regular $1,179)

However, there are a few caveats to consider here. First, only some of the phone colours are available at a reduced price, while others are actually more expensive (for example, the ‘Sorta Seafoam’ Pixel 6 is listed for almost $935).

Moreover, all the phones are listed as sold by another company, not Google. It may be worth looking into the third-party retailers to see if they’re trustworthy before making a purchase.

Chatr sale offers 2GB or 10GB of bonus data on select plans

Rogers’ flanker brand Chatr Mobile is back with another 2GB bonus data offer. Until September 19th, new activations can get 2GB of bonus data for 12 months on $35+ plans.

As with previous versions of this deal, the data bonus will expire if an account becomes inactive or if you change your plan, so make sure you lock in a plan you’ll want for at least one year.

Customers can also gain a bonus 500MB each month if they sign up for Chatr’s auto-pay system, for a total of 2.5GB of extra data.

The one exception to all this is Chatr’s $45/mo 5GB plan, which has a back-to-school deal with a bonus of 10GB of data per month for 12 months. The $45 plan isn’t eligible for the 2GB bonus, which honestly is fine since you’re getting 10GB instead.

It’s worth noting that the student deal was supposed to end on September 8th, but now Chatr lists the end date as September 20th. If you’re looking for a low-cost plan with tons of data, this may be the way to go.

You can check out all of Chatr’s plans here.

Pixel 6a, 6 and 6 Pro on sale at Amazon Canada

A few days ago, Google put its Pixel 6 and 6 Pro flagships on sale. If that still wasn’t enough to get you to buy, now the Pixel 6a is on sale at Amazon Canada.

Unfortunately, it looks like only the ‘Charcoal’ variant is available at the discounted $549.99 price (the 6a regularly goes for $599). ‘Charcoal’ is only the second worst colour option, and for $50 off, I’d happily take ‘Charcoal’ over the much nicer ‘Sage.’

Those in the market for a new pair of wireless earbuds can also get a bundle from Amazon right now with the Pixel 6a and the Pixel Buds A-Series for $649.98. That makes the Buds A-Series just $99, compared to the usual $139 price. It’s worth noting, however, that Google and other retailers currently have the Buds A-Series on sale for $99 too.

Finally, if you’re looking to nap a Pixel 6 or 6 Pro at a cheaper price, Amazon also has the phones on sale to match (or even beat) Google’s deal. The Google Store has the Pixel 6 for $699, and so does Amazon. Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 Pro is available at Amazon for $949, cheaper than the $979 price for the 6 Pro at Google.

Save $40 on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch at Amazon

Nintendo has a few special edition Switch consoles available, but arguably the best one is on sale right now at Amazon. Yes, the Switch Animal Crossing: New Horizons Edition is available for $339.99 right now, which is $40 off.

iPhone in Canada spotted the deal, which is a great one if you’re in the market for a more stylish Switch console. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Special Edition console does not include Animal Crossing: New Horizons — instead, it’s just a regular Nintendo Switch with ‘pastel green and blue’ Joy-Cons and a New Horizons-themed Switch dock.

Still, with the Special Edition Switch saving you $40 on the console, you can put that towards the $79.99 cost of New Horizons (or any other Switch game you want).

To take advantage of the deal and nab yourself the most stylish Switch around, head to this link and add the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch to your cart.

Rogers, Shaw, Quebecor sign definitive agreement for Freedom sale

In a news release published the morning of August 12th, Rogers, Shaw, and Quebecor said they had signed a definitive agreement for the sale of Freedom Mobile.

According to the companies, the agreement is “substantially consistent” with the terms previously announced in June. The deal will see Shaw and Rogers sell Freedom Mobile to Quebecor subsidiary Vidéotron for $2.85 billion, conditional on regulatory approval of the Rogers-Shaw merger.

In the release, the three companies said they “strongly believe” selling Freedom will provide ” the best opportunity to create a strong fourth national wireless services provider and addresses the concerns raised by the Commissioner of Competition and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, [François-Philippe Champagne,]” over the Rogers-Shaw merger.

Additionally, the release reiterated Quebecor’s past commitement to leverage the combined businesses of Vidéotron and Freedom to launch a national 5G offering with the former’s 3500MHz spectrum holdings.

Along with being conditional on the Rogers-Shaw merger, it’s worth noting that the Freedom sale would also be dependent on clearance under the Competition Act, as well as approval from Minister Champagne.

As for the Rogers-Shaw merger, it has already been approved by Shaw shareholders, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). However, it remains subject to review by the Competition Tribunal and approval from Minister Champagne.

It’s worth noting that the Commissioner of Competition filed to block the merger in May, which led to the Competition Bureau, Rogers, and Shaw participating in tribunal mediation, although those mediation efforts failed in July.

However, if the Rogers-Shaw merger goes through and Vidéotron acquires Freedom Mobile, that will only resolve one of the multiple competition concerns with the merger. Along with wireless networks (which the Freedom deal would impact), there are concerns about combining Shaw’s internet and broadband services with Rogers. Those concerns have grown following the massive nationwide Rogers network outage on July 8th (dubbed ‘Red Friday’ by some).
