Samsung Galaxy Fold 4, Flip 4 to get December patch on January 17

Samsung’s foldable lineup is set to get its December security patch in a week.

According to the Telus update scheduler, as well as Koodo’s, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 5G, Flip 3, Fold 3, Fold 4, and Flip 4 won’t get the update until January 17th.

Alongside the foldables, the A51 and the XCover 6 will also get their Android 13 update (which was linked to the November security patch for the other devices).

The Rogers update scheduler indicates that these devices won’t get their update until January 24th, one week later.

It’s strange because the software update life-cycle doesn’t show the S21 or S22 series yet, which means they won’t get their January update this month. Things can change, but S21 and S22 series users will likely have to wait longer than usual.

This is potentially because of the S23 series that’s rumoured to launch on February 1st. This device would come with its January security patch at launch and, possibly, the February patch.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 rumoured to feature ‘strongest 3x camera’

It looks like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a pretty good camera setup, according to the well-known leaker Ice Universe.

According to the tipster, the Z Fold 4 will sport a 50-megapixel primary shooter, 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 12-megapixel zoom camera with 3x zoom. Ice Universe says this is the strongest 3x camera ever, even better than the S22 Ultra.

The S22 Ultra sports a 3x optical zoom, alongside a periscope camera with a 10x optical zoom. Ice Universe is talking about the S22 Ultra’s 3x optical zoom and not the S22 Ultra’s periscope lens. This means the Z Fold 4 won’t zoom further than the S22 Ultra, but its 3x optical will be superior.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is rumoured to launch alongside the Z Flip 4 and perhaps another foldable in either August or September.

Users report GPS issues with Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the company’s latest premium device; however, new reports are claiming a weird issue with the handset. Some users have reported an issue with Google Maps (or other GPS-related apps), according to Samsung’s community forums.

The reports indicate that users are having issues connecting to GPS. Users are seeing a “cannot find GPS” error when attempting to use location services.

Some say that restarting the device makes it work for a bit, but then it will stop again. Others claim they’ve spoken to customer service and were told to wait for a software update. It’s unclear if this issue is affecting Canadian users as well.

However, there doesn’t seem to be an official response from Samsung yet. We’ve reached out to Samsung for any further information.

Leaked Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra looks a lot like a Galaxy Note

It’s looking like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is taking more than a few cues from the Galaxy Note line.

Based on a recently released render from credible phone leaker Evan Blass, the upcoming Samsung flagship can be seen with a flat form factor, wider screen, S Pen silo and rear camera array — all of which look rather Note-like.

This is the second S22 Ultra leak we’ve gotten this week, with the previous one offering a more restricted look at the handset. At the same time, it was reported that the Ultra will have 1TB of storage. And at the start of December, we got what appeared to be a look at the base Galaxy S22 model.

As it stands, it’s unclear exactly when Samsung will formally unveil the S22 series. However, a reveal will likely come in January or February, given Samsung’s track record.

Alleged information about Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series surfaces online

Some of Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra specs have seemingly leaked online, showing off a bit more details about the upcoming smartphone.

The phone will reportedly sport an improved 1/1.33-inch 0.8µm 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor over what’s found on the Galaxy S2 Ultra. As well, it’s said to feature an f/1.8 aperture, 85-degree field of view and a 12-megapixel 1/2.55-inch ultra-wide sensor from Sony with a 1.4µm pixel pitch and an f/2.2 aperture.

This phone will also include a periscope zoom camera with two new 1/3.52-inch Sony sensors, which are smaller than the S21 Ultra’s 1/3.24-inch sensors. Additionally, the handset will sport a 10x optical zoom camera with a 10-megapixel shooter with an f/4.9 aperture and an 11-degree field of view, and another telephoto shooter with 3x zoom, a 1/3.52-inch sensor with an f/2.4 aperture and a 36-degree field of view.

This information was shared by the well-known leaker, Ice Universe.

Ice Universe also posted about the S22 and S22+’ design elements. According to the leak, the phones will offer a design similar to the iPhone 13 without a notch. The handset’s front and rear are flat and symmetrical.

We haven’t seen many renders of the Galaxy S22 or S22+ surface online, but we have seen renders of the S22 Ultra. The phones are likely to launch in either January or February next year.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will reportedly launch in green colour variant

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra will reportedly come in green, according to GalaxyClub.

The rumoured phone is reportedly to come in a ‘Dark Red’ colour in addition to the standard ‘Black’ and ‘White’ models GalaxyClub.

Additionally, LetsGoDigital in partnership with Techizo Concept created a series of 3D renders to match this new darker colour variant. Further, LetsGoDigital says that the S22 and S22 Plus might also come in green.

However, LetsGoDigital suggests that the phone Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus might feature a different shade of green.

Samsung is expected to officially introduce the Galaxy S22 in February 2022. Reportedly the phone will sport a 200-megapixel primary shooter, an S-Pen branded stylus, and an under-display camera and more.

Samsung’s next Galaxy S series phones might be Note-like replacements

This is our first year in a while without a Note-series smartphone, and it seems like that won’t change.

Well-known tipster Ice Universe tweeted that “Note is over, but it’s not over. S becomes Note!” This likely means that some S series smartphones will be a bit more Note-like.

The tweet doesn’t reveal anything else, though, so all we can really do is guess.

Perhaps this means that the S22 Ultra will actually have an S-Pen docked next year. The S21 Ultra worked with the S-Pen, but users had to buy it separately. It could also mean we might have a more square-shaped Note smartphone this year, compared to previous years.

It’s likely that the S22 and S22+ won’t feature S-Pen compatibility, similar to 2021’s S21 and S21+.

It makes sense that the S22 Ultra would replace the Note. Samsung would still want Note money, but this is definitely more affordable than launching another handset.
