Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 both surface online

New renders of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 have surfaced online. This leak is courtesy of Evan Blass and 91mobiles, offering what are likely the best renders of both devices we’ve seen so far.

Additionally, we now know the colour variants of the Fold 4, showcasing the foldable’s black, gray and beige/gold options. The Z Flip 4 is shown off in black, purple, cream and blue, backing up another recent leak.

While it’s great to catch a glimpse of these two devices ahead of their official unveiling, you won’t have to wait long before the smartphones are officially shown off at the company’s upcoming August 10th Unpacked event. Alongside the two new foldables, Samsung will also likely unveil the Galaxy Watch 5 series and the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 alleged specs leak online

Samsung’s next Unpacked event is coming soon and with it, an onslaught of leaks about what we’ll see at this year’s event. Though we don’t know exactly when the event will be, we know that this time of year is for the company’s foldable offerings, the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series, and today’s leak is about the Z Fold 4.

Leaker Yogesh Brar has revealed the specs for the rumoured Z Fold 4.

Going by Brar’s leak, the phone will feature the same sized outer and inner display compared to last year’s Z Fold 3, both with 120Hz refresh rate panels. We’re also expecting the same 4,400mAh battery and up to 512GB of storage.

Additionally, we’ll see some changes to the processor, as Samsung will reportedly use a trio of cameras with a 50-megapixel primary shooter, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto shooter. According to a previous tweet made by Ice Universe, the 3x optical will be superior to all other Samsung devices, even better than the S22 Ultra.

Samsung will also improve the under-display camera on the Fold 4. According to Brar’s tweet, the Fold 4 will feature a 16-megapixel UDC, whereas last year’s model only had a 4-megapixel sensor.

In my review of the Galaxy Fold 3, I didn’t find the UDC to be all that useful:

While the UDC is cool, it’s pretty unnecessary when there are so many other options. It’s more of a webcam for video conferencing and not a great one at that. While pictures taken with it are too bright and lack detail, you can just ignore it and take selfies with the Z Fold 3’s several other cameras.

Perhaps this time around with an improved sensor, the UDC will be worthwhile.

Samsung is expected to have its foldable Unpacked event this August or September.

Samsung’s Z Fold 4 reportedly features a ‘smoother’ display with a less prominent crease

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a marvel, though the bane of its existence and the reason many pass on it is because of the dreaded crease, something Samsung hasn’t been able to get rid of yet, and if leaks are to be believed, the crease isn’t going away in the device’s next iteration.

According to Twitter tipster Ice Universe, who supposedly has seen the upcoming Z Fold 4, the device’s screen is an upgrade from the Z Fold 3 and looks “smoother,” though it retains the crease.

While other manufacturers like Oppo and Motorola have been able to develop crease-less foldable smartphones, thanks to a ‘teardrop’ hinge design, Samsung’s prioritization of durability over aesthetics seems to be holding it back (not that it’s a bad thing). Especially considering that Oppo’s crease-less Find N’s display was developed by none other than Samsung, suggesting that the Z Fold 3 and the upcoming Z Fold 4’s crease issue is not because Samsung can’t find the right display but because of the hinge design it uses.

In his review of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, MobileSyrup staff reported Dean Daley said, “Just like the Z Fold 2 and Z Flip 3, the crease is still noticeable, and I don’t think it will ever go away.” It seems like he was right.

From what we know so far, the Z Fold 4 will include an improved Ultra-Thin Glass which is reportedly stronger and more durable than its predecessor, while offering an enhanced S Pen experience. On the rear, the device is expected to feature a 50-megapixel primary shooter, 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 12-megapixel zoom camera with 3x zoom.

As always, we suggest that you take these leaks with a grain of salt until Samsung announces something official.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 rumoured to feature ‘strongest 3x camera’

It looks like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a pretty good camera setup, according to the well-known leaker Ice Universe.

According to the tipster, the Z Fold 4 will sport a 50-megapixel primary shooter, 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 12-megapixel zoom camera with 3x zoom. Ice Universe says this is the strongest 3x camera ever, even better than the S22 Ultra.

The S22 Ultra sports a 3x optical zoom, alongside a periscope camera with a 10x optical zoom. Ice Universe is talking about the S22 Ultra’s 3x optical zoom and not the S22 Ultra’s periscope lens. This means the Z Fold 4 won’t zoom further than the S22 Ultra, but its 3x optical will be superior.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is rumoured to launch alongside the Z Flip 4 and perhaps another foldable in either August or September.
