Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 alleged colour variants leak online

Even though we’re months away from the expected release of Samsung’s upcoming foldables, the colours for the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 have leaked online.

According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the Z Fold 5 will come in three colours, and the Flip 5 will sport four colour variants.

The leak indicates that the Z Flip 5 will launch in beige, gray, light green and light pink, and the Fold 5 will come in beige, black and light blue. Young says they’ll have different names — for instance, black will likely be called ‘Phantom Black,’ if history indicates.

Samsung will also have some ‘Samsung Experience’ exclusive colours and bespoke versions that allow you to mix and match.

Going off previous years, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 will likely launch this August. Previous Z Fold 5 news indicates that the device will be thinner and lighter than its Z Fold 4 predecessor. And the Z Flip 5 will have a larger Cover Screen than its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 reportedly thinner, lighter than previous models

Reports from South Korean publisher ETNews suggest that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 could see Samsung perfect its hardware and hinge system.

It’s being teased that the 5th-gen version will be lighter and thinner than previous models and feature a hinge that leaves zero gaps between the phone’s displays.

The report states that the change would come from a teardrop-shaped hinge rather than the traditional U shape. This would make the Galaxy Z Fold 5 thinner and allow the phone to be folded completely flat.

Allegedly, the Z Fold 5 could weigh 13g less than the Z Fold 4, and measure 13.4mm when folded, compared to 14.2mm of the Z Fold 4.

The only downside of the report claims that the thinner design of the Z Fold 5 would not leave enough room for the Samsung S Pen. This would mean that the phone would not come with a stylus slot.

Although there have been no official reports, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is predicted to be officially revealed in August of this year alongside the Z Flip 5.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 is reportedly being tested for 200,000 folds: report

Samsung’s upcoming flagship foldable might be upgraded with improved hinge technology.

According to a report from The Elec, the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s new foldable waterdrop hinge is undergoing testing over the next month as Samsung moves to finalize its design.

Further, The Elec indicates the handset is being tested for 200,000 to 300,000 folds. Two hundred thousand folds is normal wear and tear, while 300,000 folds pushes the device’s build to its limit. Samsung reportedly hopes the smartphone is capable of retaining 85 percent of its strength after 200,000 folds.

Oppo’s Find N2 also features the waterdrop hinge. The company says the foldable can withstand 400,000 folds, a number far ahead of what Samsung’s devices are rated for. Samsung should be able to promise better durability, so this is a bit disappointing.

The new waterdrop hinge offers several benefits over the previous Z Fold 4, including allowing the screen to flex inwards as the handset closes instead of folding at a tight radius. This means the crease should be less noticeable and that there’s no gap between the handset’s displays when it’s folded.

The report indicates that Fold 5 is 14mm thin or less, down from the 16mm thickness of the Fold 4. Samsung’s Fold 5 likely won’t be revealed until this coming summer.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 to feature new hinge and thinner design

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 is fast approaching, and the phone will reportedly come with a brand-new hinge and thinner design.

With the new ‘waterdrop’ hinge, also available on the Oppo Find N2, the Z Fold 5 will measure in at 13mm of thickness when closed, credible leaker Ice Universe said Weibo. This is compared to the Z Fold 4, which is 16mm at its thickest point.

It’s worth noting that the Oppo Find N2 with the same hinge measures over 16mm when closed, giving the Z Fold 5 over Oppo’s foldable. However, Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 2 measures in at 11.2mm when closed, meaning Samsung isn’t breaking any records.

The Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Tab S9 and Galaxy Watch 6 are rumoured to launch in August.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 rumoured to ditch S Pen slot

Samsung’s upcoming Z Fold 5 might ditch the S Pen slot after all.

According to a report from Korean outlet ET NewsSamsung was initially working on including a slot for the S Pen but decided to scrap the idea on the final model. Reportedly, the slot would have increased the thickness of the device.

Samsung toyed with a thinner S pen to solve the issue but reportedly scrapped that idea as a thinner S Pen would mean a worse writing experience. The South Korean company is working on a thinner S Pen that doesn’t compromise the writing experience, but it won’t be ready in time for release.

“The hinge structure of the new foldable product has changed, and the internal space structure has also changed, making it difficult to mount the S Pen,” a source close to the matter told ET News.

However, the Z Fold 5 will support the S Pen, similar to its predecessors, the Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 3 — there just won’t be a built-in slot for it.

The Z Fold 5 will likely launch in August or September this year alongside the Z Flip 4.
