Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 2 Pro renders have been shared online. This leak was shared by Evan Blass and 91mobiles who also recently leaked the Galaxy Watch 5 series.

The Galaxy Buds Pro 2 isn’t too different from its predecessor in terms of design. These ones will come in three colourways White, Graphite and ‘Bora Purple,’ which will match the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Specifications for the earbuds have yet to be revealed.

The Unpacked event is still expected for next month, though Samsung has yet to confirm. At the event, we’re expecting to see the Buds 2 Pro, Z Fold 4, Z Flip 4, Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Book2 360 now available for purchase in Canada

Samsung announced a new laptop, the Galaxy Book2 360, which is now available to purchase in Canada.

The company says the Book2 360 completes the Book2 line-up and offers an “innovative” 2-in-1 design, the latest Intel Core processors, and more. Samsung previously announced the Book2 Pro and Pro 360 in February — those laptops went on sale in April.

The Galaxy Book2 360 offers a 13.3-inch Full HD (FHD) display and Intel Core i5-1235U or Core i7-1255U configurations, both with Intel’s Xe graphics. Further, the display is an AMOLED touchscreen — Samsung says it’s up to 33 percent brighter than the previous Galaxy Book. The laptop features a 360-degree hinge that lets users quickly transform it from laptop to tablet depending on their needs.

The Book2 360 includes up to 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, Dolby Atmos speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, and can be unlocked with fingerprint. For ports, the Book2 360 boasts 2x USB-C, 1x Thunderbolt 4, 1x USB-A, 1x HDMI and 1x microSD.

Finally, the Book2 360 includes a 61Wh battery, which Samsung describes as “long-lasting.” It also supports fast charging, with a 30-minute charge returning 40 percent of battery power.

Galaxy Book2 360 is available for purchase in Canada starting July 7th through Samsung’s website, Samsung Experience Stores, and at major retail partners. Samsung only offers one colour — ‘Graphite’ — but there are two configurations:

  • Book2 360 with Intel Core i5 – $1,349.99
  • Book2 360 with Intel Core i7 – $1,599.99

You can check out the Book2 360 for yourself here.

Alleged Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 renders give us best look yet

This is the best leak yet of Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy Watch 5. These renders provide a look at the two upcoming watches from every angle. Since they were shared by Evan Blass (in collaboration with 91mobiles), they are likely to be pretty accurate.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, the successor to the Watch 4 Classic, will no longer sport the beloved physical bezel. Additionally, it will only come in one 45mm size variant.

The base Galaxy Watch 5 will use a more straightforward design and will be available in 44mm and a smaller, unspecified size. Both variants will feature physical buttons on the right of their displays alongside LTE connectivity, GPS support, and 5ATM water resistance.

Further, both watches will feature Wear OS 3.5 with Samsung One UI Watch 4.5 (dumb name). Finally, according to a previous rumour, the watches will feature 10W charging.

We expect to see the watches alongside the Galaxy Flip 4 and Fold 4 sometime next month at an unannounced Unpacked event.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to sell 11 million units in 2022

Samsung has reportedly turned its sales plateau around with the popular Galaxy S22 Ultra.

While reviewers were initially bored by the S22 Ultra’s redesign as a Galaxy Note device, it appears that consumers were eager to get their hands on the large phone that includes an S-Pen.

That being said, the statistic that’s floating around says this puts the S22 Ultra on track to be the best-selling Note device in the past few years. Since Samsung didn’t release a Note in 2021, this isn’t saying much.

Samsung was in a reported sales slump during 2021, with both the S20 and S10 series outselling the S21 series, according to Android Authority. That said, those numbers included all the phones in the series. This year, Samsung is only sharing numbers regarding the Ultra tier of the phone.

None of this discredits the S22 Ultra, which is a stellar device with top-of-the-line specs, an included stylus and four rear cameras. You can read our full review of the phone here.

Samsung starts production on 3nm chips, boasts performance gains over 5nm

Samsung announced that it started producing 3nm chips, beating rival TSMC to the punch.

TSMC, which makes chips for Apple devices like the iPhone and Mac, leads the market in contract chip production. However, the company isn’t expected to start mass-producing 3nm chips until the second half of 2022.

Samsung, however, unveiled its 3nm fabrication process in a press release. According to the South Korean company, its new 3nm process is 45 percent more power-efficient than its previous 5nm process. Moreover, the 3nm process offers a 23 percent performance gain and uses 16 percent less surface area.

Going forward, Samsung hopes to further push 3nm by reducing power consumption and size by 50 percent and 35 percent, respectively, in its second generation of the process. The company also plans for second-gen 3nm to increase performance by 30 percent.

Initially, Samsung will produce 3nm chips for “high performance, low power computing” and eventually plans to bring 3nm to mobile.

Samsung’s facility in Hwaseong, South Korea, will produce 3nm chips to start, followed by the Pyeongtaek facility. Samsung could eventually produce 3nm chips at its Texas chip plant, but the facility won’t start mass manufacturing until 2024.

Wear OS 3 can support iOS after all

While Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 doesn’t support iOS, it looks like Wear OS 3 still works with the iPhone.

Last year the Galaxy Watch 4 came with Wear OS 3 onboard, but it lacked iPhone support, so many assumed that Wear OS 3 in turn would lack iOS support. Further, when Google announced the Pixel Watch back in May, it seemed that the smartwatch would only work with Android smartphones as well.

However, the Montblanc Summit 3, will also support iPhone despite featuring Wear OS 3, according to WareableThe Montblanc Summit 3 will go on sale in July for $1,290 USD ($1662.80 CAD).

If this is true, then the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch 4 purposefully block iOS and it’s not due to the limitations of Wear OS 3.

Samsung’s One UI 5.0 beta rumoured to launch in July

Samsung’s One UI 5.0 public beta is hitting the S22 series, Galaxy Fold 3 and Flip 3 this July, according to SamMobile. The user interface will be based on the Android 13 beta, but you shouldn’t expect it to make its way to Canada.

The beta will go live in the third week of July, likely only in the U.S. and South Korea like in previous years.

According to the Dutch publication, you can expect the full Android 13 update in October, which means it should hit us in Canada in either November or December. It’s worth noting that One UI 4.0 hit Samsung devices in November, and if SamMobile is right this is a full month earlier.

Android 13 itself is expected to hit the market sometime in August, so it makes sense that it’ll take the South Korean company a couple of months to have it ready for its handsets.

Check out this Starbucks coffee-themed earbuds case for Samsung Galaxy Buds

Samsung partnered with Starbucks on several accessories for its Galaxy S22 smartphones, Galaxy Buds and more.

Unfortunately for Canadian Starbucks fans, these accessories are only available in South Korea. Still, some of the accessories are really neat. I mean, just look at the coffee-themed Galaxy Buds case — it’s so dang cute!

Plus, the case reportedly supports the Galaxy Buds 2, Buds Live, and Buds Pro. In other words, it sounds like you should be able to rock the coffee case with most of Samsung’s available earbuds.

Unfortunately, not all of the Starbucks-themed accessories are as great as the coffee case. There’s another earbuds case, but it appears to just be the standard charging case with a Starbucks logo stamped on top.

There are also several phone cases, with two options for the S22 and S22+ and two options for the S22 Ultra. For the S22 and S22+, there are two basic, frankly boring Starbucks cases. One is green with rubber sides, what appears to be a fabric back, and the Starbucks logo. According to a picture from the Starbucks website, the case matches the colour of the Starbucks apron.

The other S22/22+ case is a darker shade of green with the Starbucks logo and text reading “Count stars in your galaxy.”

The Galaxy S22 Ultra cases are much more interesting. Both cases are variations on Samsung’s arguably weird ‘strap’ case. The first is light green and the strap features a Starbucks logo with a bear instead of the typical siren. The other case is dark green and the strap looks like a Starbucks order receipt (with order number “S-22”).

The receipt strap case is arguably the most unique of the bunch, although it might be weird walking around with what looks like a receipt stuck to the back of your smartphone.

You can see all the Starbucks x Samsung accessories here.

Samsung’s giant, curved Odyssey Ark monitor could arrive in August

Remember that absolutely gargantuan curved monitor Samsung revealed back at CES in January? Apparently, it’s on the way and will go on sale in August.

The news comes from South Korean publication ETNews (via The Verge), which said the Odyssey Ark monitor passed through a few Korean certifications programs, signalling Samsung is prepping it for release.

Of course, there remains a lack of detail about the Ark monitor. We still don’t really know where it’ll be available, how much it will cost, or most of the specs. We do know that it’ll have a 16:9 aspect ratio and 4K resolution. Plus, the monitor will support pivot, tilt, and rotation.

The Ark Odyssey made waves at CES 2022 for being an absolutely massive curved monitor that can tower over users. Measuring in at 55-inches, it’s frankly absurd:

As with most tech shown off at CES, there were doubts the Odyssey Ark would ever become available. Samsung had said it’d arrive in the second half of 2022, and August does fall within that range.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung has released other monitors it showed off at CES. There’s the company’s Mac-like M8 monitor and the Odyssey Neo G8 curved gaming monitor. That Samsung released some of its CES monitors lends some hope that the Ark will also arrive. Whether it’ll show up in August as rumoured, or sometime after, remains to be seen.
