Samsung releases Poké Ball themed Galaxy Buds cases

Samsung has released a Pokémon-themed Poké Ball case for the Galaxy Buds earbuds, but only in South Korea.

According to Gizmodothe case is a limited edition and costs 134,000 won (roughly $134 CAD).

It’s worth noting that with this case, you’re actually putting the regular charging case for the Galaxy Buds 2, Galaxy Buds Pro or Galaxy Buds Live inside the Poké Ball — so it’s really a case for your case.

There are also Pokémon-themed stickers to add to the case as well.

It’s likely we won’t see the Poké Ball case outside of South Korea, unfortunately.

Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 to feature bigger battery than previously rumoured

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 is rumoured to sport a bigger battery than previous rumours indicated.

New certification documents revealed by MyFixGuide indicate that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will sport two batteries, including one 2,555mAh cell and another 1,040mAh cell that combine to 3,595mAh. This combination will likely be advertised 3,600mAh by Samsung.

Earlier leaks point to the Flip 4 featuring a 3,400mAh battery, which is only a slight upgrade from the 3,300mAh battery in the Flip 3. When I reviewed the Flip 3, I cited its battery life as a notable concern.

Even though this is better than what was originally rumoured, it still might not be enough to save the Z Flip 4 from featuring lacklustre battery life.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra is boring

When Samsung released the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the company shipped me the smartphone by mistake (despite the fact that I cancelled my order), so after playing with the device for two weeks, here are my thoughts.

Note: I filmed this video back in March, but didn’t edit it until now. I hope you enjoy ✌️.

Overall, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is a beast of a phone, and both my girlfriend and I miss its 10x zoom lens a lot. However, that’s the issue with the S22 Ultra. It offers so many features that it’s bound to make people want it, but it’s also costly.

If money is no object, this is fine, but the device doesn’t cut any corners, so there’s not a price to performance sweet spot with the S22 Ultra — it costs the most and does the most.

It’s smart that Samsung decided to revitalize its Note line of smartphones under the guise of an S22 Ultra, but at the same time, this also makes the device feel boring because it looks like the Note 20 Ultra and acts like and S21 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro rumoured to use sapphire glass and titanium

Samsung has yet to officially release information on its long-rumoured Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. However, reliable tipster Ice Universe claims that Samsung will ship the device with sapphire glass and titanium components.

On Twitter, Ice Universe published a straightforward tweet stating that the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is expected to include sapphire glass and a titanium build. The leaker did not detail to what extent these materials will be used. However, it’s a fairly safe bet that Samsung aims to provide a premium device for users.

One can assume that the use of sapphire glass is to be used for the face of the watch. Sapphire glass is very durable and can provide a significant level of protection from scratches while not being overly cumbersome.

The notion that Samsung aims to use titanium is another story. Titanium is also quite durable. However, it’s still not yet known if titanium will be used for the overall build of the device, or certain components. If the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro integrates titanium throughout its build, it will once again strengthen it.

However, with all this said, it appears as though Samsung is opting to offer the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro as a premium device to users. The use of sapphire glass and titanium may drive up the price significantly. Currently, the 46mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is available for $499. It’s within reason that the smartwatch could see a price tag of upwards of $699 or more in Canada.

There’s no official word on when Samsung will announce its Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. However, reports indicate a likely launch of Q3 2022. Previously, it’s been rumoured that the Galaxy Watch 5 may feature a larger battery and a temperature sensor.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 unofficial renders showcases nothing new

First, we saw unofficial renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 4, and now we’re checking out unofficial renders of the Z Flip 4.

This leak comes from OnLeaks via 91Mobiles, and shows off a phone that’s almost identical to its predecessor.

According to the leak, the Z Flip 4 will feature a 6.7-inch foldable display with a hole-punch selfie cutout in the middle, USB-C  port, SIM tray, speaker grill, dual cameras, and a secondary screen that displays time and notifications

The foldable will release in a blue colour variant, but multiple colours will be offered. Additionally, 91Mobiles speculates that the device will feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor. The phone’s rear also features a two-tone colouring similar to last year’s model.

It’s unclear when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Flip 4, but it will likely appear in August or September.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 unofficial renders showcase Fold 3 and S22 design cues

Unofficial renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 offer a better picture of what to expect in the coming months.

The renders were published by SmartPrix, based on information from the ever-reliable Steve Hemmerstoffer (Onleaks).

The renders show that the phone looks very similar to the Fold 3 from the front, and sports a camera array inspired by the Galaxy S22 that launched earlier this year. This camera setup will contain three lenses that protrude from the rear and an LED flash.

The handset will flaunt a 6.2-inch cover display, and a larger 7.6-inch tablet-like screen when unfolded. The leak indicates that we’ll again see a high refresh rate on the displays and an improved under-display camera.

Dimension-wise, the device measures 155 x 130 x 7.1mm compared to the Fold 3, which featured dimensions of 158.2 x 128.1 x 6.4mm. This means the phone isn’t as tall, but is slightly wider and will have a noticeable thickness to it.

Despite the increased thickness, Ice Universe says that the Fold 3 is “very light.” And now that the foldable is slightly wider, the Cover display is almost the same width as the iPhone 13 mini.

Theres still no sign of a built-in slot for the S-Pen stylus. Smartprix says there’s also a very small change to the hinge that makes it a bit better.

It’s unclear when Samsung will unveil the Fold 4, but we’re expecting to see it in August or September this year, alongside a couple of other foldable devices.

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 will reportedly feature 200-megapixel sensor

Samsung is reportedly done working on the 200-megapixel camera for 2023’s Galaxy S23.

According to ETNews, the company is in the process of selecting suppliers for its new 200-megapixel sensor. Samsung Electro-Mechanics will get 70 percent of the orders, while Samsung Electronics and other partners will recieve the remaining 30 percent of orders.

This new sensor is called the ‘ISOCELL HP3’ and is an upgraded version of the current 200-megapixel camera called the ISOCELL HP1. For whatever reason, the HP1 wasn’t included in Samsung’s devices. This sensor can record 8K and 4K videos and offers advanced HDR and Double Super Phase Detection autofocus.

We’ll liekly see the 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP3 alongside the S23 (Ultra) in early 2023.

Samsung S22 camera features are coming to these older devices

When Samsung launched the Galaxy S22 series it hosted a slew of exclusive camera features, including advanced portrait mode with pet recognition, portrait in night mode, telephoto lens support for portrait videos and more.

In March, Samsung shared a list of devices that would get some of the S22’s new camera features through an upcoming software update. Now, XDA Developers says that the software has started rolling out to older devices, including the S21 series. It’s worth noting that this update is only making its way to South Korean S21 devices so far, but I expect to see it on other devices in Canada sometime shortly.

Through Samsung’s South Korean Community forum, we’ve learned what camera features are coming to Samsung’s handsets.

Samsung’s improved night portraits feature will hit the Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, S20, Note 20 and Z Fold 2. Additionally, improved auto framing in video mode that provides automatic zoom, is supported on the Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, S21 FE, Z Fold 2 and Z Flip 5G.

Improved video call support for Google Duo, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and more will be available on the S21, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, S21 FE, S20 , Note 20, Z Fold 2, Z Flip 5G, S20 FE, S10, Note 10, Z Fold, 10 Lite and Note 10 Lite.

The support for auto framing effects for video calls is coming to the S21, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, S21 FE, Z Fold 2, and Z Flip 5G.

Better third-party camera app quality for photos taken with social and camera apps downloaded from the Play Store will also be applied with Samsung Camera’s image quality optimization technology. This will come to the S21, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3 and S21 FE.

It’s unclear when these devices will hit everyone’s phones, but this offers a better idea of what we’ll see next.
