Rumour has it that Samsung’s Galaxy S21 FE is finally coming out. The latest leak indicates that the S21 FE will be the first Samsung smartphone to launch with Android 12 out of the box.

According to a firmware update, the S21 FE will sport the new OS with One UI 4.0. Android 12 only launched for the S21 series earlier this week.

Samsung uses Galaxy S21 Ultra to shoot short wildlife doc

I’m someone who absolutely loves wildlife documentaries, and although I’ve never considered filming one myself, apparently I could — at least, according to Samsung.

Samsung has teamed up with Discovery to shoot a wildlife documentary on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Wildlife photographer Yashas Narayan and his team used a couple of S21 Ultra handsets to film tigers in the wild.

The documentary was shot exclusively with the S21 Ultra and a camera grip system to get more control of the small device.

Above is a behind-the-scenes clip showing off how the mini-doc was filmed.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra features a set of four cameras, including a 108-megapixel shooter with OIS, laser autofocus and phase detection autofocus, a 10-megapixel shooter that’s capable of 10x optical zoom, a lens that offers 3x optical zoom and a final shooter sports a 12-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide lens.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+ and Tab S8 Ultra renders leak online

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 series has been leaked online by the mighty Evan Blass (@evleaks).

These leaks show the difference between all three models of the device. It seems the Tab S8 Ultra has the slimmest bezels and even has a notch for its front-facing camera. Reportedly, the Ultra variant will have limited production.

If the Tab S8 has similar sizing to its predecessors, the Tab S8 will sport an 11-inch display, and the Tab S8+ will feature a 12.4-inch screen. Rumour has it the Tab S8 Ultra will sport a massive 14-inch display, which will likely be too large for many.

It’s not exactly clear when Samsung will launch these new tablets, but the devices may launch alongside the S22 series in January or February.

Samsung to open new office in Regina

Samsung Electronics Canada is continuing to grow its relationship with Saskatchewan-based information and communications technology provider SaskTel by opening a new regional office to bring 5G networks to the province.

The office will be based in downtown Regina. Samsung is providing hardware, software, and expertise to deploy SaskTel’s 5G network across the province.

“The opening of a Samsung office in Regina underscores our commitment to ensuring a successful, end-to-end 5G network deployment for SaskTel, and enabling the foundation for next-generation innovations,” Jeff Jo, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics Canada, said in a press release. “We look forward to building on Samsung’s strong networks presence in Canada and around the world, and to delivering the unparalleled levels of performance and efficiency offered by 5G.”

SaskTel will start by providing the network on a “limited basis” by the end of this year and offer wider deployment next year in Regina and Saskatoon. This will bring faster data speeds, reliability, and capacity. It will help with remote work, virtual health care, and applications for the industries of agriculture, manufacturing, and mining.

“Collaborating with Samsung for 5G and having them now situated close to our head office in Regina will give us the chance to explore more opportunities that will benefit Saskatchewan people and the economy,” Doug Burnett, president and CEO of SaskTel, said in a statement.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ rumoured to feature 50-megapixel primary shooter

In just a few months, Samsung will release its trio of S series smartphones, the Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra. Now, a new rumour from the well-known leaker Ice Universe indicates that we’ll see a camera change in the series’ cheaper smartphone models, the S22 and S22+.

According to Ice Universe, the S22 and S22+ will feature a 50-megapixel primary shooter capable of pixel binning to a 12.5-megapixel sensor, which should allow for more light without using the Night mode. This is similar to what we see in the S21 Ultra, though not quite as extreme (the S21 Ultra features a 108-megapixel shooter) and aligns with Google’s Pixel 6 series.

Moving from the primary camera, the S22 and S22+ will reportedly feature a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical. It’s unclear why Samsung is moving away from a 64-megapixel sensor. The company may be looking to cut costs while providing a better primary camera experience.

Alongside these cameras, the ultra-wide-angle shooter will sport a 12-megapixel sensor that is mostly the same as what was available with the S21 series. The same also goes for its 10-megapixel selfie camera.

On the other hand, the S22 Ultra will feature a completely different array of cameras, according to recent leaks. You can expect a similar offering to the S21 Ultra with 108-megapixel primary camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, 10-megapixel telephoto with 3x zoom, 10-megapixel periscope with 10x zoom and 40-megapixel selfie shooter.

It’s currently unknown when Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S22 series, but we’ll likely see the trio of smartphones in January or February, considering previous launch dates.

What are your favourite wireless earbuds?

Last month, I purchased a pair of Samsung’s Galaxy Live Buds, the company’s 2020 earbuds. This is my second time buying the earbuds because I picked them up back in 2020 and to my horror, ended up losing them one evening.

While they’re a little unconventional given their Bean-like design, the Buds Live are my favourite earbuds on the market because they fit perfectly in my ear. They also sound great and offer decent, albeit, not great noise-cancelling.

The wireless earbud market is becoming increasingly crowded, with options like LG’s Tone Free buds, Huawei’s Freebuds 3 Google’s Pixel Buds and Apple’s 3rd-gen AirPods , but I still always find myself coming back to Samsung’s weirdly-shaped beans.

Even MobileSyrup managing editor Patrick O’Rouke is a big fan of the Galaxy Live Buds, though he also uses Apple’s AirPods Pro frequently.

The question at hand is, what earbuds do you use, or if you prefer headphones over earbuds? Let us know in the comments below.
