Samsung’s Galaxy Note line is reportedly officially dead

Pour one out for Samsung’s Galaxy Note line.

While it was widely believed that the Galaxy Note line’s days were already numbered, ET News is reporting that Samsung has no plans to release a new Note device in 2022. With this in mind, Samsung’s 2022 smartphone roadmap likely only includes the Galaxy S22 series and its next-generation foldable.

Further, production of the Galaxy Note 20 series is reportedly winding down now. According to ET News, the Note 20 has continued to sell reasonably well and sold roughly 3.2 million devices worldwide in 2021.

Backing up previous rumours, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to offer features Note users will find familiar, including S Pen support and a built-in storage slot for the stylus. It’s worth noting that Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 3 also supports the S Pen, though, like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it doesn’t feature a way to store the stylus easily.

For more on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, check out these leaked live images of the smartphone that show off its lack of a sizable camera bump. If you’re looking for more information about the Note 20, check out my review of the smartphone from last year.

Samsung’s top-of-the-line tablet, the Galaxy Tab S7+, is on sale at Best Buy for the rock bottom price of $589 CAD.

It’s important to note that this tablet is part of an open box sale, so it might have been a device that was bought and returned in the past.

If you want to hear my take on the tablet, you can read my full review here. I’ll also mention that while the tablet wasn’t for me, there are some people in the comments that seemed to really like it.

You can buy the tablet from Best Buy here.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra camera app brings ‘Pro Mode’ support to more lenses

If you’re one of the few people out there who prefers to use a ‘Pro Mode’ with your smartphone camera and you’re a Galaxy S21 Ultra owner, this update is for you.

A new update to the S21 Ultra’s several shooters now allows Pro mode across both its telephoto cameras, including the 10-megapixel 10x telephoto and 3x telephoto shooter, instead of just its main 108-megapixel and 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. So far, the ‘Expert Raw‘ app is only available in the South Korean Galaxy Store, but according to leaker FrontTron, if you install it via an APK, the app will work in any region.

Samsung will likely release the app in Canada and the U.S. in the near future. It’s also worth noting that the tech giant could release a version of the app for the S21 and S21+ soon.

As its name suggests, Pro Mode gives options for advanced camera features, allowing you to control settings typically associated with a DSLR like ISO, shutter speed and RAW file types. It’s worth noting that if you plan to edit RAW photos, make sure to use an app like Photoshop or Lightroom and not Google’s Photo app since it removes HDR and other editing options.

For more on the S21 Ultra, check out my review of the smartphone from earlier this year.

Samsung Display offers glimpse at future of unique screen technology

Samsung Display has published a new site dedicated to outlining its OLED technology.

The platform showcases future developments and will be home to new announcements related to folding, sliding and rollable OLED displays, says Samsung.

On the folding section of the website, different foldable display options are shown off, including ‘Flex Note,’ ‘Flex Square’ (like the Z Fold 3), ‘Slideable Flex’ and ‘Rollable Flex.’

Samsung has previously patented designs for slideable phones like the ‘Galaxy Z Slide’ and ‘S foldable slideable screen’ and more. With the launch of this website, it looks like the South Korean tech giant will be working on more unique display designs in the near future.

I’m personally looking forward to the company’s ‘slideable’ handset options. You can check out the site, here.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE hands-on image gives a full look at the phone

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 FE has appeared yet again.

This latest leak showcases hands-on images of the still unannounced and unreleased phone. Overall, the handset looks about how I expected, including its ‘Infinity-O’ display cutout on the front and a camera housing on the back that matches Samsung’s other Galaxy S21 devices.

It’s worth noting that the Galaxy S21 FE also sports a flat screen.

In the images, you can see the SIM card tray, USB-C port and the lack of a 3.55mm headphone jack.

The model we’re looking at sports a dark grey finish, but the phone is also rumoured to launch in gray, light green, light violet and white.

Other rumours indicate the phone will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, a 6.4-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED display, an in-display fingerprint scanner, a 64-megapixel primary shooter and an ultrawide lens and a depth sensor.

It’s unclear if or when Samsung will launch its often-rumoured Galaxy S21 FE smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series will reportedly only feature Qualcomm chips

Samsung is reportedly taking a different approach with the processor featured in its upcoming Galaxy S22 series smartphones.

According to LetsGoDigital — which says it was tipped off by ‘Super Roader,’ a former Samsung employee — the company recently decided to forgo the use of its Exynos 2200 chip in its upcoming Galaxy S22 series.

This news means that all Samsung S22 models will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor even in Europe and Asia. Previous reports indicated that Samsung planned to bring the Qualcomm chip variant to Africa and parts of Asia, but it looks like the South Korean company has decided to take a different route.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 series will reportedly be very similar to last year’s handsets. Rumours indicate the S22 will sport a 6.1-inch display, with the S22+ model featuring a 6.6-inch AMOLED screen.

The top-end S22 Ultra model is rumoured to feature an S Pen compartment, alongside a 6.8-inch rounded display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a brighter display.

All three smartphones are also tipped to feature the cameras that are nearly identical to the S21 line’s shooters. Samsung’s S22 series is rumoured to launch in either February or January of next year.
