Video shows off Samsung Galaxy S22+ concept design

A concept design for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S22+ has surfaced online.

This concept smartphone design comes from the Technizo Concept YouTube channel, which partnered with LetsGoDigitalIt’s worth noting that this is only a concept and not a leak, and it’s based on the Galaxy S21 series.

The design resembles the S21 series and sports a very similar rear-facing camera setup and design. The camera sensors on this handset seem quite large, however. On the front the phone sports a hole-punch front camera with small bezels.

The device has a slight back curve and all its keys are on the right-hand side, including the power button and volume rocker. The concept video also shows the phone in some beautiful colours — hopefully the actual S22+ ships with similar colour options.

Rumours indicate that the phone features a 50-megapixel main shooter, a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera. The phone is also expected to feature a 4,500mAh battery and a 45W fast wired charging.

Further, the phone is expected to feature Samsung’s or Qualcomm’s next-gen processors.

Here’s how to take selfies like a champ with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 offers an array of cameras, including one that sits underneath the phone’s display.

Though the technology behind this feature is very cool, the ‘Under Display Camera’ (UDC) isn’t optimal for selfies, and while you can take a selfie with the ‘Cover Screen’ as well, it’s best to snap them with the phone’s three rear-facing cameras.

Follow these steps if you have a Z Fold 3 and don’t know how to take a picture with these cameras. If you’re here to look at the difference in selfie quality, skip to the bottom of the story.

First, open the camera app. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on the Cover Screen or the main display, but I prefer to do it with the Cover screen as it gives you more control of the picture-taking

In the top right corner, you’ll see a button that says ‘selfie’ — tap it. If you press this with the Cover screen, it displays a message that tells you to open up your phone.

Once opened, you’ll see yourself in the viewfinder and be able to take selfies. Note that the cameras are not in the center and are to the left, so when you’d typically look at the centred hole-punch camera on the Cover screen, you’re now looking to the left at the triple shooters.

If you do this with the main screen, you’d have to keep looking at it to change your selfies to wide-angle, portrait, telephoto, etc. Additionally, you’ll need to capture pictures with the volume slider.

If you did this process with the Cover screen, it works like you’re taking a regular selfie shooter, but you’re using the better cameras.

Now that you know how to take selfies with the triple camera setup, you’ll be taking pictures like a pro.

Take a look at the difference in photo quality below.

Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ rumoured to feature 50-megapixel sensor, hole-punch display

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 is set to launch early next year and is expected to feature a significant camera upgrade.

Ice Universe, a well-known Samsung leaker, has posted some of the S22 and S22+’s purported specs. According to the leak, Samsung’s devices are set to use a GN5 camera sensor, which means both smartphones will offer a 50-megapixel camera sensor. This is a huge upgrade as the S21 only offered a 12-megapixel primary shooter. It’s possible that Samsung might use the GN5 for another camera lens, like to replace its 64-megapixel telephoto, but that seems very unlikely.

The GN5 sensor supports video up to 8K at 30fps and 12.5-megapixel output with 4-in-1 pixel binning.

Additionally, Ice claims that the S22 won’t use an Under Display Camera (UDC), but will stick with the hole-punch display from previous years.

Furthermore, Ice Universe indicates that the S22 will apparently feature 45W charging speeds with USB-C. The Galaxy Note 10+ offered this charging speed, but Samsung’s charging speeds are typically limited to 25W. The report also states that the S22 Ultra will be the only one with this higher charging speed.

Lastly, Ice says that the Exynos 2200 processor on Samsung’s device will feature a 1× Cortex-X2 core at 2.9GHz with 3 at 2.8GHz and 4 at 2.2GHz. The AMD GPU, meanwhile, will have a frequency of 1250 MHz, though only on the S22 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S21 users can sign up for Android 12 beta in U.S.

Samsung has officially announced that it’s rolling out the public beta of Android 12 with One UI 4.0 for Galaxy S21 handsets. This is only a few weeks before the expected final release of the operating system for Google’s Pixel smartphones.

The registration process starts today, September 14th. Users need to register via the Samsung Members app, and there are likely only a certain number of open slots. Currently, the beta is only available in U.S. and likely won’t come to Canada until the official release.

While One UI 4.0 runs on top of Android 12, at least at the outset, Samsung’s UI seems to be a lot cleaner and more elegant than ‘Material You.’

Samsung says One UI 4.0 features deep customization, ranging from visibility to appearance. Additionally, One UI 4.0 will also bring more enhanced privacy and protection functions, including indicator alerts when an app’s camera or microphone is in use.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra to reportedly feature ultra-thin bezels

Samsung is currently working on slimming down the bezels of its upcoming flagship tablet.

The tech behind this, ‘Border Reduction Structure’ (BRS), is a new bezel-less display technology designed for Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and select other smartphones.

According to the leak, the Galaxy S22 will also feature BRS technology as it won’t hit shelves until late 2022. A rumour from Naver and @FrontTron says that the Tab S8 Ultra will use BRS for certain aspects of the tablet’s bezels.

The report doesn’t include the dimensions of the BRS, but it does say that it will be thinner than the S21+’s thinnest bezel.

Thin bezels combined with an Under Display Camera will make for a pretty interesting tablet.

New Samsung feature lets users add more RAM to Galaxy phones (sort of)

Downloading more RAM has been a long-running joke in tech circles, but a new feature coming to a Samsung smartphone is about as close as we’ll actually get.

For those unfamiliar with the joke, random-access memory, or RAM, is a physical part of computers and can’t be downloaded. The joke is associated with those who aren’t tech-savvy and it’s often used to troll people on tech or gaming forums. Unfortunately, downloading RAM has also become almost a scam with plenty of places online and apps on the Play Store offering the ability to upgrade RAM.

Samsung, however, is reportedly rolling out a feature called ‘RAM Plus’ to the Galaxy A52s 5G. According to SamMobile (via Android Authority), RAM Plus lets users set aside a portion of the phone’s internal storage to use as ‘RAM.’

This isn’t exactly a new feature, and it’s one offered by Android itself as well as by other operating systems like Windows. Called paging in some systems, it’s simply a way for an OS to use a portion of the storage drive as RAM. What sets Samsung’s RAM Plus feature apart is that it gives users an easy way to control the feature, which isn’t common on Android devices (Android Authority notes that Oppo has a similar feature).

While certainly neat, it’s not clear how helpful the feature will be in practice. RAM is typically much faster than memory used for storage, so there will likely be a performance hit when accessing any information stored this way. That said, there may be benefits for devices with a small amount of RAM to begin with, even if the added RAM Plus memory isn’t as fast as actual RAM.

Of course, the Galaxy A52s offers 6GB of RAM out of the box, which is a fair bit and I have my doubts people would benefit from increasing that via RAM Plus. Additionally, it’s not clear if RAM Plus will be available on other Samsung devices — at the time of writing, it appears the A52s wasn’t available in Canada, but you could get the very similar Galaxy A52 5G.
