Samuel L. Jackson to Play Sho’Nuff

Actor Samuel L. Jackson is continuing to score film roles and this time is set to play Sho’Nuff in the remake of the classic action comedy, The Last Dragon.

The new version will basically carry the same story line, focusing on a young martial arts student, Leroy Green, who strives to achieve the highest level of martial arts discipline.

He will roam the streets of New York on a quest to find the biggest fighters alive, such as Sho’Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem.

In the meantime, Samuel L. Jackson has two other films on the way this year. Soul Men opens on November 7 and The Spirit lands on Christmas Day.

Lucy Liu Warms Up Her Vocal Chords

Variety reports that Lucy Liu is going to be the voice behind Sio in the animated film Afro Samurai: Resurrection.

The film is a follow-up to the two-hour television series Afro Samurai, in which Samuel L. Jackson voiced the main character. Now, Jackson must prepare himself to do it again for the Spike TV film.

Liu will play Sio, a sadistic and seductive spirit that wants to destroy the samurai (Jackson). Mark Hamill will also be the voice of a character, who is Sio’s server and protector.

The film will be released in January on Spike TV. 

Lucy Liu is no stranger to animated films, as she played Viper in Kung Fu Panda and will also do the vocals for Silvermist in the movie Tinker Bell, which hits theatres on October 28.

Aside from animation, she will star in the film The Year of Getting to Know Us, to be released in October.

Watch the Trailer for The Spirit

A new teaser has been released on the Internet for the action drama The Spirit, written and directed by Frank Miller (Sin City, 300).

Adapted from the Will Eisner newspaper strip, The Spirit follows the life of a former police officer (Gabriel Macht) who mysteriously comes back to life to fight crime in Central City.  He is tracking the steps of his sworn enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson), to prevent him from destroying the city.  He must also avoid falling for the charms of several women with secret plans, including Sand Saref (Eva Mendes).  Is she the love of his life, or a true enemy in disguise?

The film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Paulson, Paz Vega, Jaime King, Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi.  The Spirit opens in theatres on December 25.

Samuel L. Jackson in Unthinkable

Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson will be directed by Gregor Jordan (Buffalo Soldiers) during the filming of Unthinkable, which will begin on September 2.

In this suspense, the United States is facing a nuclear threat made by a sole terrorist. An investigator and an FBI agent are pushed to the limit to find him.

Moviegoers can also see Samuel L. Jackson in Lakeview Terrace, which hits theatres on September 19, and Soul Men, expected to come out on October 10.

Trailer for Lakeview Terrace

Sony Pictures has released the new trailer for the film Lakeview Terrace that is starring Samuel L. Jackson, Patrick Wilson, and Kerry Washington.

The story of the drama unfolds when a young couple (Wilson and Washington) move into their dream home in California. However, they become quickly disenchanted when their neighbour (Jackson) does not approve of their interracial relationship.

The film is coming to theatres on September 19.

This is a big year for Samuel L. Jackson. After the release of Jumper in February, he can also be seen in IronMan, which is expected to hit the big screen on May 2.

Another Musical Comedy for Sharon Leal

Dimension Films has cast Leal, who played Michelle Morris in Dreamgirls, as the leading lady in the musical Soul Men.

The movie, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, will be starring Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac.  They will play Louis and Floyd, two former soul-singing legends, who reunite for a commemorative concert at the Apollo Theatre to honour their deceased band leader. Leal will play Cleo, Louis’ daughter, who agrees to sing with the band.

Filming begins on January 21, and the movie will be in theatres on October 10.

Jackson To Star in Man That Rocks the Cradle

Jackson will have the lead role in the adaptation by Josh Cagan which was co-written by Rob McKittrick.

The film follows the story of a father of four who decides to hire a live-in housekeeper to help raise his children.  Jackson, 58, will play the nanny, a ‘child whisperer’ from the south named Marion Delacroix.

Jackson is currently in New Mexico working on the film The Spirit under the direction of Frank Miller.  The actor was also recently directed by Neil LaBute in the film Lakeview Terrace.  We can also see Jackson in the films Jumper and Iron Man.

First Look at Movie Jumper

In this movie, directed by Doug Liman, a young man with powers to teleport from one place to another, follows the traces of his mother’s murderer. He gets the attention of an agent from the National Security Agency who supports his efforts.

Other stars such as Rachel Bilson, Jamie Bell, Max Theriot, Shawn Roberts and AnnaSophia Robb are playing in this movie..

The movie will be in theatres on February 15, 2008.

Samuel L. Jackson To Play a Villain

The story follows how Denny Colt, a police officer killed in the line of duty, comes back to life as a masked mystery man named The Spirit.

Jackson would play The Spirit’s enemy, Octopus, a lab assistant who reinvents himself as a nightmare that kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face.

The project will be the first solo directing experience for Miller, who directed Sin City with Robert Rodriguez in 2005.

Eva Mendes Joins The Cleaner

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mendes has joined the cast of the thriller.  Filmmaker Renny Harlin will direct the project.  Mendes will co-star with Samuel L. Jackson and Ed Harris.

The Cleaner follows the story of a police officer (Jackson) who cleans crime scenes.  After finishing a job, he discovers that one of the homicides was not reported to the police.

Mendes, 32, will play the widow of a killer who turns to Jackson’s character for help.
