Deryck Whibley vows to return

Deryck Whibley has vowed to be back on stage ”soon”.

The Sum 41 rocker was recently hospitalized due to the effects of heavy drinking and has thanked fans for their compassion and support as he fights to beat his addiction.

He wrote on his website: ”I just wanted to thank you all so much for sending gifts and all of the compassion and support you have shown me.

”It really means a lot to me in this time of recovery. I will be better soon and back out on stage before you know it.”

The 34-year-old rocker – who was previously married to Avril Lavigne – admitted earlier this month he had been ”scared straight” after suffering some worrying health problems that saw him come close to death.

Alongside pictures of himself looking thin and frail, he wrote: ”The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years. It finally caught up to me.

”I was drinking hard every day. Until one night. I was sitting at home, poured myself another drink around midnight and was about to watch a movie when all of a sudden I didn’t feel so good. I then collapsed to the ground unconscious.”

Deryck panicked when he woke up in an intensive care unit, but is determined to get his life back on track.

He added: ”I had no idea where I was. I was so freaked out. My liver and kidneys collapsed on me. Needless to say it scared me straight. I finally realized I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink the docs say I will die (sic).”

Robbie Williams makes live return in Leeds

Robbie Williams made his live return in Leeds last night (11.09.12).

The ‘Candy’ singer played an intimate show at the city’s Academy venue to open his first solo tour since 2006.

Robbie debuted his new single, ‘Candy’, and told the 2,300 strong crowd he’s hoping it will get lots of airplay on radio.

Speaking of the single he also told the Daily Record newspaper: "I’m in the business of hits now. Before, I meandered with no direction, trying to be experimental and interesting and I didn’t manage that bit.

"Now, I want hits and euphoria in stadiums and I want people to sing the words back to me.

"I think this might be the single to do it."

Robbie only played one other track from his forthcoming ‘Take The Crown’ album, ‘Losers’, a huge ballad.

The rest of his set was packed with previous hits including ‘Angels’, ‘She’s The One’, ‘Let Me Entertain You’ and ‘Rock DJ’.

He even joked about one of his older and more ridiculed tracks, telling the crowd: "Don’t worry, I’m not doing ‘Rudebox’."

Robbie was also in typical cheeky form on stage, doing press-ups, as well as dancing the robot and cracking lots of jokes.

Meanwhile the singer continues his tour – of small venues he played on his first ever solo tour in 1997 – tonight at Glasgow Barrowlands.

Culture Club reunites for New Year’s Eve concert

In preparation for their first live performance in ten years, ’80s band, Culture Club, is currently rehearsing in a studio.

Frontman Boy George along with original members Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss, will perform at a New Year’s Eve concert in Sydney, Australia. The event line-up also includes Jaromiquai and Pet Shop Boys.

“Last time we got together was 10 years ago, so it takes that long to recover from the last time we worked with each other," guitarist-keyboardist Roy Hay joked with Australia’s Sunrise channel. The band promised to play all their classic hits plus some new songs.

“That’s the thing that makes us want to come back and do it, is to write new songs and put some new material out as well as play the old ones,” Hay said.

Boy George added: “The nostalgia thing is ok, but it’s a bit limited so for us to come and do this and enjoy it, we need to kind of do something new and incorporate the two things, the past and now.”

Demi Lovato returns to the stage

Disney star Demi Lovato, who turned 19 last Saturday (August 20), is ready to return to the stage with three performances scheduled in September, reports Starpulse.

The teenager had recently completed a 3-month stay at a rehabilitation facility following an emotional breakdown and the end of her relationship with Joe Jonas, youngest member of the Jonas Brothers. Her illness cut short her South American tour with the boy band.

The newly-recovered Lovato announced she will be performing two shows at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, on September 17 and 18, and one show at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 23.

Fans who have eagerly been awaiting her return, will have the opportunity to hear her perform her latest single Skyscraper from her new album Unbroken.

"This will be the first time I’ve been on stage for about a year, which is just, like, unfathomable to me because I’ve been performing non-stop since I was, like, 15,” Lovato said. “I’m getting back onstage for the first time after everything has happened. It’ll be interesting to see how nervous I am up there."

These three concerts will promote her comeback album, Unbroken, set for release on September 20.

Sugarland cancels concert after stage collapse

An ongoing investigation has prevented American country music duo Sugarland from recovering their equipment from the stage that collapsed Saturday night at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis, reports Billboard.

A powerful storm with high winds, ripped the stage scaffolding and light rigging apart – killing five and injuring at least 48 – just before the duo was about to go on stage.

Many people were trapped under the rubble. Sugarland took to Twitter to reassure fans that they were safe and asked them to pray for “the people of Indianapolis.”

Just prior to the accident, organizers had to ask spectators to evacuate due to weather warnings, unfortunately, the storm arrived earlier than predicted.

The next Sugarland concert is scheduled for Hard Rock Casino in Albuquerque on August 18.

U2 announces stage sale once tour wraps up

On July 30th in Moncton, New Brunswick, when the U2 360 Tour stage is dismantled for the final time, the most successful concert tour of all time will have been seen by over 7 million fans.

Designed by Bono, Willie Williams and Mark Fisher, the band hopes to recycle three of the massive claw-like stage structures into either permanent or portable pavilions.

Tour director Craig Evans told Billboard, "It’s certainly our intention to see these things recycled into permanent and usable ventures. They’re something you can put up on a waterfront and become an instant skyline icon.”

"It represents too great an engineering feat to just use for [the tour] and put away in a warehouse somewhere." He added that they are in “discussions to send them into different places around the world and have them installed as permanent venues."

While on tour, ‘the claw’ carried a cylindrical video screen able to open to a size of 14,000 square feet and designed to provide fans with the best possible concert viewing experience.

Tried and tested at over 110 concerts in 78 cities in 30 countries, the in-the-round transportable structure was designed to support up to 185 tonnes and engineered to withstand high winds while sustaining seismic loads.

Beach Boys to reunite for 50th anniversary?

Despite recent rumors that he may soon be retiring, Brian Wilson has revealed that he is now considering a reunion tour with his former band, The Beach Boys, in honor of their 50th anniversary, reports BBC 6Music.

"I’m considering it," Wilson said. "I don’t know yet, but I’m considering it. Nothing’s really holding me back. I just don’t know if I want to be around those guys you know. They’re zany guys. They’re crazy."

For almost 20 years, Wilson worked as a solo artist. Beginning in the mid-1960s, the Beach Boys founder refused to tour with the band, suffering from mental illness including depression.

He hasn’t performed with his former band since 1996, when the group recorded the album Stars And Stripes Vol. 1

Wilson is currently on tour to promote his newest solo album, Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin. He will tour North American in June before heading to the U.K. in September.

Rihanna upstaged by VIP fans?

R&B singer Rihanna is going to make fans part of the show during her upcoming Loud tour, with a special section of the stage built just for them, reports Teen Music.

"We’ve just designed the stage and we have a section that we are building… where the fans can actually be in the show and in the stage and be closer than they’ve ever been. It’s real VIP," the singer explained, refusing to go into more detail.

The tour begins June 4 in Baltimore and wraps up July 25 in Boston. In between it will take Rihanna all over North America this summer, before she kicks off her international tour in Europe this September.

The concert series is to promote her newest album, Loud, which was released last November and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart. It has since gone platinum in the U.S. and twice platinum in Canada.

Rappers Cee Lo Green and J. Cole will join the R&B star on tour. "I’m excited to be heading out with Rihanna on the North American leg of her Loud Tour," J.Cole told AllHipHop.com.

U2 Defends Massive Stage

Some people are disappointed with the Irish group’s huge financial investment in their stage for the current U2 tour.

David Byrne of the Talking Heads wrote on his blog, "$40 million to build the stage, and, having done the math, we estimate 200 semi trucks crisscrossing Europe for the duration."  Byrne added, "It could be professional envy speaking here, but it sure looks like, well, overkill, and just a wee bit out of balance given all the starving people in Africa."

When asked about the criticism, U2 guitarist, The Edge, said, " I think anybody that’s touring is going to have a carbon footprint.  We’d love to have some alternative to big trucks bringing the stuff around but there isn’t one."
