Twitter outage preventing tweets from loading, logins

Twitter is down and appears to be experiencing a major outage Thursday morning. Canadians can breathe a sigh of relief — Rogers is not down again.

According to Ookla’s Downdetector website, outage reports for Twitter spiked shortly after 8am ET. However, as noted by The Verge, Twitter’s status site shows that everything is working just fine. While users can still navigate to the Twitter website, tweets don’t load nor can people tweet. The Verge also reported that you can’t log into the website right now.

At the moment, it’s not clear what caused the issue.

The Verge reports that this is the first major Twitter outage since the service went down twice in February. Some people weren’t able to access Twitter in some parts of the U.S. due to a “technical bug” that stopped timelines from loading and tweets from posting.

Rogers says services is back for ‘for the vast majority’ of its customers

Rogers kicked off Saturday morning with another update for customers following the lengthy outage that lasted most of Friday.

After previously confirming services were starting to come back online, Rogers says it has now restored service “for the vast majority” of customers but notes some may “experience a delay in regaining full service.”

“Following our previous updates, we have now restored services for the vast majority of our customers and our technical teams are working hard to ensure that the remaining customers are back online as quickly as possible. As our services come back online and traffic volumes return to normal, some customers may experience a delay in regaining full service. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the disruption this has caused our customers and we will be proactively crediting all customers.”

Rogers has not yet revealed what caused the outage, which took down wireless and internet services across Canada, impacting customers of Rogers and its flanker brands, Fido and Chatr, as well as financial services, government services and more.

“We are working to fully understand the root cause of this outage,” explained Rogers CEO and President Tony Staffieri in a message shared late Friday with Rogers customers, indicating the company doesn’t know what caused the problem.

Cloudflare, which has posted several details about the outage based on internet traffic patterns, believes the outage was “likely to be an internal error, not a cyber attack,” as some had suggested.

Rogers once again reiterated a commitment to credit customers for the outage, but the details remain unclear.

Colin Firth hates taking selfies

Colin Firth hates taking selfies with his fans.

The ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ star admits he doesn’t enjoy posing for photographs, but also dislikes when people secretly snap pictures of him when he’s not working.

He said: ”People coming up and saying something nice is always welcome. But when you’re being secretly photographed, that’s not so nice. I would rather shake hands with someone and exchange a few words than take a selfie.”

The 54-year-old actor, who has two sons, Luca, 13, and Matteo, 11, with wife Livia Firth, has spent a lot of time in Los Angeles over the past few weeks, and admits he hasn’t had a holiday in some time.

He said: ”Vacations seems like a distant memory. The last one was Kenya. I went with my family, and we went to the northern region and coast. We did some safari stuff and visited friends.”

But the British star also spent the festive season in Italy, where he enjoyed his last great meal.

He told PEOPLE magazine: ”I was in Italy and had a delicious seafood linguini. Those meals will beat anything you get in a restaurant.”

While Colin loves living in the UK with his family, he admits some things are better in Los Angeles.

He said: ”I think Southern California sunsets are some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.”

Memorial service for Mindy McCready to take place in Nashville

A memorial service for Mindy McCready will be held in Nashville.

The 37-year-old country singer’s body was discovered on the porch of her home in Arkansas on Sunday (02.17.13) after she allegedly shot herself and friends and contemporaries will come together to celebrate her life in the coming days.

A statement from Music City News Media & Marketing said: "To complement formal family arrangements, preliminary plans are being made by Mindy’s ‘friends in music’ to arrange a memorial in Nashville in the coming days."

Mindy’s body was found after Cleburne County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a gunshot from the house.

A statement from the sheriff’s department read: "Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."

While Mindy – who was mother to sons Zander, six, and 10-month-old Zayne – shot to fame with the release of her debut album ‘Ten Thousand Angels’ in 1996, her music career was blighted by her personal problems, most recently the death of her long-term partner David Wilson, who shot himself in January.
