Seth Rogen is letting people rent an Airbnb to get high with him

Seth Rogen has teamed up with Airbnb to give regular folks a chance at smoking weed with him.

On February 7th, Airbnb users will be able to book a one-night, $42 USD (about $56 CAD) stay at a Los Angeles residence that’s inspired by the Vancouver-born actor’s Houseplant cannabis company. While there, you’ll be able to take part in one of Rogen’s favourite pastimes, pottery, with Rogen himself, soak in the sun and raid the fridge. Rogen says that he’ll also sample Vol. 2 of his unreleased Vinyl Box Set, a trio of vinyl records with tracklists curated by both him and longtime collaborator, fellow Vancouverite Evan Goldberg.

Unfortunately, there’s a catch. The three bookings that will go live to the public on the 7th are only available to U.S. residents. Yes, that means that Rogen’s fellow Canadians are excluded. There isn’t any other option, either, like some sort of contest to fly Canadians to the LA retreat. That’s despite the fact that the partnership comes in support of Hilarity for Charity, Rogen’s non-profit to support families affected by Alzheimer’s through comedy-related initiatives.

It’s unclear why Canada has been shafted, although it’s potentially due to Houseplant’s exit from the Canadian market in 2021 after a split with co-producer Canopy Growth. At the time, Rogen said the goal was to relaunch in Canada, noting it was an opportunity to “evolve the brand.” There hasn’t been any word since on a Canadian relaunch.

So to any potential U.S. readers — good luck on getting to blaze with Rogen. For our Canadian readers, though, we have to sadly accept that Rogen has forsaken us.

Samsung Canada partners with SickKids and Ryan Reynolds to raise money for fundraiser

Samsung Canada is partnering with SickKids for the third consecutive year to support one of the annual Sweater Love fundraising campaigns. In addition, the campaign sees Canadian actors Ryan Reynolds and Seth Rogen join the fold, offering support of their own.

Once again, Samsung Canada is providing support to the SickKids Foundation by being a matching gift partner. Throughout the campaign, the company is matching donations made by the public. From now until midnight on December 24th, Samsung Canada will match contributions by up to a $100,000 maximum.

Over the course of the Sweater Love fundraising campaign, Samsung will also donate $1 for every online purchase made at Samsung.com. The company is offering to donate up to $10,000 within the same window of time.

“We’re incredibly proud to step up once again to support critical fundraising for SickKids this holiday season,” Jennifer Groh, Senior Director of Corporate Marketing and Citizenship, Samsung Canada says in a statement. “Thank you to all Canadians who come together to support this important cause, which makes an unparalleled impact in helping children and families get the help they need every day.”

In a video published to help spread awareness, Deadpool’s Reynolds dons an ugly holiday sweater voiced by none other than Rogen. The two share some delightful banter and even introduce a one-second clip from Toronto Maple Leafs’ Austin Matthews. The video then directs those looking to support to make a donation on the “Help Ryan Help SickKids” page.

More information on Samsung’s involvement can be found here

Hear Chris Pratt try to be Italian again in new Super Mario Bros. movie trailer

Nintendo has debuted the second trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Revealed during a November 29th Nintendo Direct, the trailer lets us hear more of Chris Pratt’s bizarre Mario voice as well as Charlie Day’s Luigi, who both said little during last month’s debut teaser. As previously teased, the trailer also introduces Princess Peach, played by Anya Taylor-Joy.

We also get nods to classic Mario staples like the Fire Bar and even Mario Kart. Unfortunately, we only get a glimpse at Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong as he’s about to fight Mario — we don’t get to hear the Canadian funnyman’s voice. (He did appear in the Direct via a pre-recorded live-action talking segment, however.) Additionally, Nintendo says that Charles Martinet, the long-running voice of Mario in the games, will appear in “surprise cameos.”

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) serve as co-directors. Composer Brian Tyler (Avengers: Age of Ultron) is also working with original Mario series composer Koji Kondo to integrate some of his iconic tunes into the original score.

Following a delay out of 2022The Super Mario Bros. Movie will hit North American theatres on April 7th, 2023.

Canada’s Seth Rogen to star in ‘Dumb Money,’ an adaptation of GameStop stock disaster

Remember when internet trolls coordinated a massive disruption of Wall Street? The story of the infamous GameStop stock incident is being adapted for the big screen. Dumb Money is a film set to star Canadian actor Seth Rogen as well as Paul Dano, Sebastian Stan, and Pete Davidson.

Dumb Money is an adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network. The story recounts the GameStop “short squeeze” that occurred in January 2021. Internet trolls of r/wallstreetbets were able to squeeze two hedge funds betting that declining stock would further plummet. Through a bit of internet comradery, amateur investors were able to buy shares and stock options. This led to the market skyrocketing by 1,700 percent, gaining a market value of over $10 billion.

Currently, there’s no word on who the ensemble cast portrays in the film.

The film is being fully financed by Santa Monica-based company Black Bear Pictures and is being distributed by the company in international markets. During Toronto Internation Film Festival, Black Bear Pictures is launching its sales on Dumb Money.

Dumb Money is being directed by Craig Gillespie, known for directing I, Tonya. Rebecca Angelo & Lauren Schuker Blum are serving as writers with Teddy Schwarzman from Black Bear and Gillespie producing.

“Black Bear has diamond hands for Dumb Money,” Schwarzman said. “Lauren & Rebecca have masterfully adapted Ben Mezrich’s exceptional book detailing one of the greatest underdog stories of our time.”

Principal production on the film is expected to begin in October.

Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong is reportedly getting his own ‘Mario’ movie spin-off

In September, Nintendo made the absolutely hilarious announcement that Vancouver’s own Seth Rogen will voice Donkey Kong in next year’s Mario movie, among other bizarre casting choices.

Now, it’s looking like the Canadian funnyman will reprise the role in his own spin-off film.

Movie news site Giant Freakin Robot, which has a track record of scoops, reports that a Rogen-led spin-off is “currently in development” at Illumination. The Santa Monica-based animation studio is also working on the untitled Mario animated film that’s set to hit theatres in December 2022.

Plot details weren’t provided, but Giant Freakin Robot said some of Rogen’s fellow Mario castmembers — which include the likes of Chris Pratt as Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi — may make an appearance. Comedian Fred Armisen, who’s confirmed to be voicing Cranky Kong in the Mario movie, seems like another safe bet. Hopefully, Brampton, Ontario’s own Michael Cera voices Diddy Kong and Jonah Hill plays King K. Rool for a fun Superbad reunion.

Notably, Giant Freaking Robot is corroborating an unrelated May report from reliable Nintendo insider Zippo, who claimed at the time that Donkey Kong is Nintendo’s next character to get a major multimedia push beyond games. So far, we know that this includes an expansion to the Super Nintendo World theme park.

For now, though, all we have to go off is funny internet videos about Rogen as the iconic Nintendo ape.

Canada’s own Seth Rogen to voice Donkey Kong in ‘Mario’ movie

Nintendo has confirmed that none other than Vancouver’s own Seth Rogen will voice Donkey Kong in the upcoming Mario movie.

In a surreal moment, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto came out during the recent Nintendo Direct to confirm casting details for the animated film.

Rogen is the film’s big Canadian star, but other notable voices include Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser and veteran Mario voice Charles Martinet in “surprise cameos.”

Additionally, Nintendo revealed that the film is set to hit North American theatres on December 21st, 2022.

Seth Meyers addresses misconduct in Globes monologue

Seth Meyers addressed the sexual misconduct scandal in his opening monologue at the Golden Globe awards.

The ‘Late Night’ host took the reins of the annual ceremony at the Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills on Sunday (01.07.18) evening and showed he wasn’t afraid to address the big issue within moments of stepping out on stage.

He quipped: "Good evening, ladies and remaining gentlemen.

"Happy new year, Hollywood! It’s 2018, marijuana is finally allowed, and sexual harassment finally isn’t.

"This was the year of big little lies and get out. And also the television series ‘Big Little Lies’ and the movie ‘Get Out’.

"There’s a new era under way, I can tell, because it’s been years since a white man was this nervous in Hollywood. By the way, a special hello to hosts of other upcoming awards shows who are watching me tonight like the first dog they shot into outer space.

"For the male nominees in the room tonight, this is the first time in three months it won’t be terrifying to hear your name read out loud."

But he also made a joke about disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein – who has been accused of sexual harassment and even rape by a number of women – which was met with boos by the shocked audience.

He said: "I think it’s time to address the elephant not in the room.

"Harvey Weinstein is not in the room tonight, because I’ve heard rumors he’s crazy and difficult to work with.

"He’ll be back in 20 years, when he becomes the first person ever booed in the ‘In Memoriam.’ "

The 44-year-old presenter had vowed before the event not to make jokes about President Donald Trump but couldn’t resist making a jibe at his expense.

As he talked about not being the most powerful Seth in the room, the camera panned to Seth Rogen and he quipped about the ‘Interview’ star: "Remember when he was the guy making trouble with North Korea?"

And he also joked about what he felt the president’s opinion would be of the Hollywood Foreign Press, the organisation behind the Golden Globes.

He said: "A string of three words that could not have been better designed to infuriate our president: Hollywood Foreign Press. The only name that would make him angrier would be the ‘Hillary Mexico Salad Association.’ "

Seth also urged Oprah Winfrey to run for president.

He quipped: "In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents’ dinner, jokes about how he was unqualified to be president. And some have said that night convinced him to run.

"So if that’s true, I just want to say, Oprah, you will never be president. You do not have what it takes!

"And Hanks, you will never be vice president. You are too mean and unrelatable."

But Seth ended his monologue on a serious tone, praising the women in the room.

He said: "People in this room worked really hard to get here. But it’s clearer now than ever before that the women had to work even harder.

"So thank you for all the amazing work that you’ve all done and continue to do. I look forward to you leading us to whatever comes next."

Jennifer Aniston, Angelina Jolie to present at Golden Globes

Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie will both present at the Golden Globe Awards.

The ‘Cake’ actress and the ‘Maleficent’ star – who were both previously married to Brad Pitt – rarely attend the same events, but this year they will be among the famous faces handing out statuettes to the winners, along with other newly-announced presenters Dame Helen Mirren and Emma Stone.

Other stars who will be presenting at the ceremony – which will be hosted by Seth Meyers – on Sunday (07.01.18) include Hugh Grant, Isabelle Huppert, Ricky Martin, Penelope Cruz, Seth Rogen, Kerry Washington, Gal Gadot and Kelly Clarkson.

Amy Poehler, Neil Patrick Harris, Sharon Stone, Alicia Vikander, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Hemsworth, ‘Game of Thrones’ stars Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, Emma Watson, and Halle Berry are also among the big names who will give out prizes at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills.

While it is unusual for Jennifer and Angelina to be at the same event, it is unlikely they will be seated near to one another as Jenny Cooney, a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association who helps work out the seating plan for the Golden Globes, admitted personal circumstances are taken into account when planning who will share a table at the glitzy ceremony.

She told Australia’s Vogue magazine: "There have been years where major stars may be together for the first time since a high-profile split and we go to great lengths to put them on opposite sides of the ballroom.

"It was always stressful to have Jennifer Aniston in the same room with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and this year we were wondering if Brad Pitt showed up, how that would be received by Angelina Jolie. It’s good for the audience but maybe not for the exes."

Beyonce set to re-record Lion King songs

Beyonce is set to re-record some of the hit songs from ‘The Lion King’.

The 36-year-old ‘Halo’ hitmaker joined the cast of the upcoming live-action remake of the Disney animated classic as Nala – the love interest of Simba, who will be voiced by Donald Glover.

However, a source told the New York Daily News newspaper, that Sir Elton John – who provided the songs to the 1994 animation including ‘Circle of Life’ and ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ – has agreed to a deal reportedly worth $13 million (£9.7 million) to rework his hit compositions.

The source said: "Elton is working with Disney on this new ‘Lion King’ project. They have reached an agreement to present some reworked versions of the classic hits and perhaps some new work. The songs will be thread into the storyline. It is unthinkable when you have Beyonce involved not to have her sing some of those iconic hits – and that means huge sales to a new generation."

Elton, 70, won an Oscar for Best Original Song in 1995 for ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ while other songs such as ‘Hakuna Matata’ and ‘Circle of Life’ were both nominated.

In the new movie, Chiwetel Ejiofor is set to play the villain Scar alongside Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa respectively.

James Earl Jones will return to voice Mufasa, the same part he played in the original 1994 movie. Alfre Woodard will play Sarabi, John Oliver will voice Zazu and John Kani will star as wise baboon Rafiki.

‘Jungle Book’ filmmaker Jon Favreau is at the helm of the project, which is set for a July 2019 release. Favreau is already in pre-production with Jeff Nathanson writing the script.

‘The Lion King’ is just one of the live-action movies in the pipeline. ‘Dumbo’, ‘Mulan’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ are also in the works.

Seth Rogen is thrilled to have been name-checked in a Nicki Minaj song.

Seth wrote on the micro-blogging website: "I got name dropped by @NICKIMINAJ in a song so I’M F***ING GOOD YA’LL. (sic)"

Seth is a long-time fan of hip-hop music and has previously parodied Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’ music video with the help of his Hollywood pal James Franco.

On the new track, Nicki raps: "I-I got these hoes scared to pass, I got that intercept flow/I made a movie like Seth Rog. (sic)"

And Nicki eventually replied to Seth’s original tweet, telling the actor he is her "hero".

Nicki wrote: "I made a movie like SETH RO!!! #YouAlreadyKnow Go check out the video on VEVO now!!! cc: @Fergie Seth, you’re my hero!!! (sic)"

Last month, meanwhile, Seth celebrated the 10th anniversary of his hit movie ‘Superbad’ by revealing some of the film’s secrets.

At the start of a series of movie-related tweets, Seth wrote: "I’ll answer some Superbad questions if anyone has any.

"Some Superbad trivia for its ten year anniversary. (sic)"

Then, Seth started to lift the lid on some of the lesser-known aspects of the movie, revealing that fellow comedian Danny Mcbride served as an extra in one particular scene.

Seth wrote: "Danny Mcbride is an extra in the background of the first party scene in Superbad.

"Evan Goldberg’s brother Dave drew all the d**k drawings in Superbad.

"Almost all the names in Superbad are people we went to high school with and lots of the stuff in the movie really happened to us (sic)"
