Halo Infinite to get new modes, including dedicated ‘Slayer’ playlist

Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has been an absolute blast, despite several legitimate criticisms from players. (Master) Chief among them is the inability to select specific game modes — thankfully, that should change soon.

Currently, Infinite runs on a ‘playlist’ composed of various game modes, like Capture The Flag, Slayer (the games deathmatch mode), Oddball and others. While having a random playlist isn’t an issue, the lack of dedicated playlists for specific modes has been a point of frustration for Infinite players.

It’s made worse by the game’s contentious battle pass system, which requires players to complete specific challenges to make progress. Some challenges require people to play specific game modes — with a randomized playlist, those can be frustrating to complete.

343 Industries’ community manager, John Junyszek, tweeted on Friday that the team was working on a Social Slayer playlist, along with adding other popular game modes and playlists from past Halo titles, such as ‘Fiesta,’ ‘Tactical Slayer (SWAT),’ and ‘Free-For-All.’

Junyszek notes that the changes won’t go live by December 8th — when Infinite’s campaign goes live — but the team is working to get the changes out before the holidays. However, the Social Slayer playlist won’t be ready until next year.

So far, 343 has generally done a great job listening to players, communicating plans and implementing changes to address criticisms. For example, 343 added a new, always-available ‘Play 1 Game‘ challenge and later increased the amount of XP given for the first six matches played in a day. Both changes were implemented to address concerns with the battle pass, which players felt took too long to progress due to restrictive challenges and low XP rewards.

Slayer guitarist can’t stop writing riffs

Slayer’s Kerry King writes new riffs every time he picks up a guitar.

The ‘Reign in Blood’ musician has been playing for over 30 years, and never finds it hard to write new tracks for his group.

He told Metal Hammer magazine: "Anytime I pick up a guitar, a riff comes out of it.

"You have to not get cheesy or caught up in yourself. I’m still looking for the perfect riff. We’ve got a lot you could say are perfect, but it’s like the Holy Grail, you just keep looking for that f***er."

Slayer also includes bass player and singer Tom Araya, drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarist Jeff Hanneman, although Gary Holt has stood in for the latter since 2011, after he contracted flesh eating disease necrotizing fasciitis and was left unable to play.

The band try to recreate their songs as closely as possible to their records when they play live, but Kerry admits he sometimes forgets his older parts.

He explained: "Sometimes we mix up our set and play songs we haven’t played in years and it’s like, ‘F**k.’ Gary never played on the album, and he’s asking me how to play riffs I haven’t thought of for years.I’m like, ‘I dunno, go ask Tom! I can’t even help you!’"

The Big 4 heavy metal legends to play NYC

Four legendary heavy metal bands – Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax – are continuing their Big 4 tour with a concert at New York City’s Yankee Stadium on September 14, reports Brooklyn Vegan.

The metal extravaganza began as a one-night-only U.S. show in Indio, California, but due to its success and the demand, the four ’80s bands are reuniting again to bring the seven-hour concert to America’s East Coast. Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 6.

"Obviously, this thing should play more places in America," Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone after the success of the California show.

Anthrax, Metallica, and Slayer are all celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, with Megadeth the "baby" at a spry 28 years old.

"The camaraderie is real. There’s a segment of the metal community that would rather still have us feuding… Obviously, everybody was very competitive, but there’s nothing to be competitive about now," added Ulrich.

Rob Zombie and Slayer present Hell on Earth

Thrash metal band Slayer and heavy metal frontman Rob Zombie have joined forces for a summer tour that promises North American fans Hell on Earth, reports Consequence of Sound.

The joint effort kicks off July 20 in Reading, Pennsylvania, traveling throughout Canada and the States for 12 dates, and wraps up in Seattle, Washington on August 6.

"We haven’t toured with Zombie since Ozzfest 1999, so you can expect no less than ‘hell on earth,’" said Slayer’s Kerry King. "Total sonic annihilation and a visual bludgeoning. Bring your own body bag…"

"Total destruction on stage and off is what this combination promises," states Zombie, "Seriously, how much more Hell could you ask for?"

As co-headliners, both Zombie and Slayer will present their full headline sets at every show, and both bands take turns closing the show. Slayer will draw from its entire 30-year catalogue for this tour’s set list. San Francisco’s thrash-metal band Exodus has been confirmed as the opening act.

Grammy-winning Slayer is known for high-intensity live shows, having been named ‘Best Live Band’ by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer.

Zombie has more than 15 million albums sold, seven Grammy nominations, and directed five major motion pictures, including Halloween. After the tour, Zombie will be starting production on his sixth feature film, The Lords of Salem.

Big Four plan heavy metal concert in U.S.

For the first time, all ‘Big Four’ heavy metal bands – Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer – will appear on the same bill in the United States, and it will be the first time they will have played together since a series of European dates last summer, reports Consequence of Sound.

Headbangers can rejoice with the announcement that this year the Big Four is planning to perform at a one-day concert in Southern California on April 23.

The concert will take place one week after the Coachella music festival and one week before the Stagecoach music festival on the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California.

In September 2009, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich assembled a tour with thrash metal’s ‘Big Four’ together on one bill, and they took the stage together for seven shows in Europe’s Sonisphere Festival concert series. Since then, metalheads have never looked back.

The ‘Big Four’ are planning to unleash their ear-splitting sounds from 4 to 11 pm on the day before Easter Sunday, April 23, so don’t forget your earplugs.  Tickets are $99 or $199 VIP and set to go on sale this Friday (January 28).

Heavy Metal Tour Cancelled

The tour, which was scheduled to begin on January 18 in Seattle, Washington, has been called off due to medical reasons.  It seems that Tom Araya, the singer and bassist for Slayer, has to have back surgery.

Megadeth hasn’t wasted any time in announcing that they will soon unveil plans for their own tour for March and April.  The group doesn’t want to disappoint their fans who were looking forward to seeing them take the stage this winter.  The tour was being hyped as one of the heaviest metal tours of all time.

The American Carnage tour will likely maintain the summer schedule as planned.  Although nothing has been officially confirmed, it’s a safe bet that metal markets such as Houston, Chicago and Detroit in the US, as well as Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, London, Moncton and Halifax, will still get to host the rockers later in the year.

Slayer and Megadeth Tour Delayed in Canada

Slayer frontman, Tom Araya, is experiencing back pain, forcing the Canadian Carnage Tour, originally set for November 8 in the Maritimes city of Moncton, to be postponed. The tour was next headed west.

The tour was booked for a Halifax show the following day, and then at the Montreal Bell Centre on November 11, before hitting Quebec City at the Pepsi Coliseum the night of November 12.
Araya is now taking care of his serious back problems, and is seeing a specialist, who suggested that the star immediately go under the knife.  the surgery took place yesterday (November 3) in Texas.
Kerry King of Slayer said on behalf of the group, “What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to get this taken care of.”
Megadeth also addressed their fans about the situation, saying, “While all four of us are disappointed that we won’t be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom’s health. We thank the fans in Canada. We look forward to seeing you all soon.”
Ticket holders are being asked to keep their tickets, since they will be accepted for the new show dates to be announced shortly.
