NYC Restaurant Week kicks off in July

A celebration of fine dining, New York City’s Restaurant Week will mark its 20th anniversary when its kicks off July 11, reports Routard.

Despite the name, NYC Restaurant Week Summer 2011 will actually span two weeks, running from July 11 until the 24. During the event, residents and visitors in the Big Apple can enjoy prix fixe meals throughout the city.

From Monday to Friday, participating restaurants will offer a $24.07 set lunch and a $35 dinner. The deal is not available on Saturdays, and Sunday participation is up to the establishment.

"We are excited to begin commemorating NYC Restaurant Week’s vibrant history and important milestone which will culminate with our dining program’s 20th anniversary in 2012," said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company,  founders and hosts of the event.

"We anticipate summer 2011 to be the largest culinary celebration to date and encourage locals and visitors alike to start marking their calendars."

NYC Restaurant Week began as a one-time event in 1992 to celebrate the National Democratic Convention arrival in town. Since then, the event has grown to include over 300 restaurants, making it NYC’s largest dining-related event.
