Watch the Trailer for Star Trek

Paramount Pictures has released a trailer for the next Star Trek movie.

The film stars John Cho, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana, Leonard Nimoy, Marlene Forte and Jimmy Bennett.

The new film follows the adventures of the beginning years of the Enterprise team at Starfleet Academy.  The screenplay was written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Mission: Impossible III), and directed by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe).

James Doohan’s Ashes Exploded

The ashes of James Doohan, who played the role of Montgomery Scott or "Scotty" in the Star Trek series and films, were lost.

The Canadian actor wanted his ashes to be sent into orbit around the earth by a company that provides these types of services. Unfortunately, the Falcon 1 rocket exploded a few minutes before takeoff.

This was the second attempt to send Doohan’s ashes into space. The actor, who died in 2005 from Alzheimer’s disease and pneumonia, expressed his wishes, just like 208 other people who wanted the same thing.

Doohan played the chief engineer on board the Enterprise in the cult television series Star Trek.

Star Trek Release Delayed

Paramount Pictures has decided to hold the film’s release until May 8, 2009, hoping to sell more tickets to students, reports Variety.

With the new release date, the science-fiction film starring Wynona Ryder, will have no significant competition except for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which will be released the week before. 

The releases of several projects will be changing as a result of the writers strike.  The summer comedy Tropic Thunder, starring Ben Stiller, was originally scheduled to be released on July 11, but has been delayed until August 15.

Trailer for Star Trek

With the release of Cloverfield, which is suspected to be the most popular film of the weekend, Paramount Pictures is expecting that the trailer for Star Trek, which will be shown for the first time, will get a lot of attention.

The 11th sequel of this franchise was created by J.J. Abrams, creator of Lost and Alias. This Star Trek movie will have an impressive cast including Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Winona Ryder, Rachel Nichols, Jennifer Morrison, Chris Hemsworth, Clifton Collins Jr., Ben Cross and Tyler Perry.

Star Trek will be in theatres on December 25, 2008.

A New Cast for Star Trek

The star of the films Edward Scissorhands and Girl, Interrupted will play the mother of a young Vulcan, Spock, who will be played by Zachary Quinto.

The role of Captain Kirk will be played by Chris Pine, while British actor Simon Pegg will play Scotty.  Eric Bana will play the villain Nero.

Director JJ Abrams will be behind the camera for the Paramount Pictures production which will follow the Enterprise team while they were students at Starfleet Academy.

Ryder is currently working under the direction of Gregor Jordan in the suspense film The Informers, which is an adaptation of the book by Bret Easton Ellis.

A Captain Kirk is Found

J.J. Abrams picked Chris Pine to play the legendary Captain Kirk for the cast of the franchise Star Trek.

Other cast members include  Eric Bana (Munich, Hulk), Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and John Cho (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle).

Filming will begin in November and continue until March. Producers would liek to release the movie for Christmas 2008.

Simon Pegg and John Cho in Star Trek

In this next movie in the franchise Star Trek, Eric Bana will be playing the villain, Zoe Saldana will be Uhura, Anton Yelchin will play Chekov and Zachary Quinto will play Spock. Leonard Nimoy, who played the original Spock, will also be part of the cast. Chris Pine is in talks to play Kirk.

The movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams for Paramount Pictures. Details of the storyline are not being revealed, but they have stated that it will show the enterprise team at the very beginning.

Filming will begin in November and should be finished by March.

Eric Bana Will Be the Villain in Star Trek

Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Leonard Nimoy will also be in this Star Trek film. Auditions for the cast are still happening in New York and London. There were rumours that Abrams is picking well-known actors for the parts of villain and captain. This role has not been filled.

The studio is also recruiting many actors for secondary roles. Auditions will take place in November.

The screenplay was written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and co-produced by Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof.

This new movie in the franchise Star Trek will be in theatres for Christmas 2008.

Yelchin and Chekov in Star Trek

Chekov will be the navigator of the Enterprise, working under the orders of James T. Kirk.

Yelchhin will be joining Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy who will both be playing the part of Spock.  The rest of the cast is being selected presently in New York and London.  The parts of Kirk, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, as well as the villain and the captain of the film,  The last two parts will require two great actors.

The details of the screenplay are not being publicized at this time, but there are rumors that we will see the crew of the Enterprise when they were younger attending the Starfleet Academy.

Zachary Quinto To Be Next Spock

According to E! Online, Quinto, who stars in the television series Heroes, will be playing Spock in a new film being directed by J.J. Abrams.

Actor Leonard Nimoy will be returning to his role as Spock, but Quinto will be playing a young Spock in the movie.  The film will be set as James T. Kirk and Dr. Spock meet at the Starfleet Academy.  The film is expected to be in theatres by Christmas of 2008.
