An Eleventh Star Trek In the Works

Abrams, who just finished working on Mission: Impossible III with Tom Cruise, plans to have the Star Trek film ready for 2008.

The story will be written by Abrams in collaboration with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who also worked with Abrams on the scenario for Mission: Impossible III.

The Star Trek film series has earned more than a billion dollars at box offices.  In addition to the films, the television series produced 726 episodes.

A New Star Trek Movie?

According to ContactMusic, William Shatner, Patrick Stewart and Leonard Nimoy may all be reuniting for the project.  Producers are hoping that the union of the two different generations of actors will make a successful science-fiction film.

Stewart reveals, "It has been raised. Apparently there’s interest in bringing the next generation cast together with actors from different Star Trek series."

He added, "I would love that. I’m very fond of William Shatner."

A New Star Trek Film In Sight

The producer of the television series, Rick Bergan, would like to make another production for the silver screen in a few years.  He told Britain’s Star Trek Magazine, "I think that time frame for a new, fresh feature with a whole different outlook would be fine."

The first film of the Star Trek series was released in 1979.  The most recent film, Star Trek: Nemesis, the tenth film, was released in 2002.

Star Trek Fans Want to Save Series

These loyal fans are so determined to not let the series end, that they purchased a full page ad in the Los Angeles Times.

Broadcast in the United States on the UPN Network, Star Trek:  Enterprise, is scheduled to finish at the end of this May.

Admirers around the world payed for the ad, entitled "Save Star Trek".  They will also be contributing to finance the shooting of a new series of show.  The organisers of this fund-raiser hope to gather $32 million before the end of March.

The Star Trek series made its debut in 1966.
