Steven Spielberg owns Citizen Kane sled

Steven Spielberg owns the sled which was used at the end of the hit movie ‘Citizen Kane’.

The 71-year-old director has revealed that the "greatest memento" he possesses doesn’t come from one of his own movies, but instead from the hit Orson Wells feature, which was released in 1941.

At the end of the movie, a sled bearing the name ‘Rosebud’ can be seen being burned, and a spare version of the item which wasn’t needed for filming is now in the legendary director’s possession.

When asked what his most prized movie memento is, the ‘Jaws’ director said: "The sled from ‘Rosebud’. The greatest memento I possess is the actual sled from ‘Rosebud’. The balsa wood sled, there were three made to burn at the end. Wells directed all the insert photography and Wells was happy with the second sled they burned, and so the third sled was not needed, and that was put in storage at RKO, and I purchased the sled at a Sotheby’s auction in the mid-80s."

Steven currently displays the movie prop in his office, but has revealed he will donate it to the new Academy museum as he believes "everybody" should get the chance to see the item.

He added: "It’s going to be at the Academy museum eventually, the new Academy museum. It’s in my office right now and it’s been there for years and years, ever since I purchased it. It was at home for a while and then it was in my office. But I think it really belongs in a museum so everybody can see it."

Despite his most treasured piece not originating from his own flick, Steven does have items from ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ in his office as well.

When asked during an appearance on BBC Radio 1’s ‘Movies That Made Me’ if anything from his own movies had made it into his office, he said: "Yeah the whip and fedora hat from the first ‘Raiders’ movie. It’s not on display but it’s … if I need it I can whip it out."

Steven Spielberg takes years to watch his own movies

Steven Spielberg says it takes "years" for him to watch his movies back.

The 71-year-old filmmaker may have a number of huge films under his belt but he has confessed that there are times when it takes him months or even years before he watches the movie.

He said: "I’m always moving really fast, and I don’t look back a lot. That’s why I don’t sit down and look at my movies on a movie screen after I’ve made them. Sometimes it’s years before I will even dare look at a movie again, and sometimes I’ll shut it off after five minutes."

And the ‘Ready Player One’ director doesn’t ever "dwell" on success or failure because he is just "really too busy".

He added: "I’m really too busy, both in my private life and in my professional life, to have a lot of time to dwell on success or failure."

And Steven feels a "deeper responsibility" to be able to tell stories with "social meaning" and he says he will always choose "history over popular culture".

Speaking to the New York Times newspaper: "Now I feel a deeper responsibility to tell stories that have some kind of social meaning. If I have a choice between a movie that is 100 percent for the audience and a movie that says something about the past, I will always choose history over popular culture. Even with all the popcorn in a film like ‘Ready Player One,’ it does still have social meaning."

Mark Wahlberg donates $1.5m fee to Time’s Up

Mark Wahlberg has donated his $1.5 million fee for ‘All The Money In The World’ reshoots to the Time’s Up movement.

The 46-year-old actor was paid the hefty amount to re-film scenes for the Steven Spielberg-directed movie – compared to the $1000 Michelle Williams was paid to reshoot – after its leading actor Kevin Spacey was accused of making sexual advances towards actor Anthony Rapp.

Spacey was booted from the movie and replaced by Christopher Plummer, causing a number of reshoots to take place over the Thanksgiving week last year.

And now it has been confirmed that Mark has handed over his entire fee to support the cause.

Lawyer Nina Shaw, who is heavily involved in Time’s Up, told a panel at SWSX: "Yes, Mark has written that cheque. Men often get paid more, not because they’re better actors, but they’re in stories where they drive the narrative. The reason they drive the narrative is they’re in stories that are picked by men."

Mark had previously vowed to donate his fee to the Time’s Up movement in Michelle’s name.

He had said at the time: "Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All The Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation. I 100 per cent support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5 million to the Time’s Up Legal Fund in Michelle Williams’ name."

Mark admitted the pay gap on ‘All the Money in the World’ was "very awkward".

He said: "It didn’t take much to make the decision [to donate the money]. It was just the right thing to do, you know? And Michelle is a fantastic actress. It’s not me who decides who gets paid what. Your value’s based on what the marketplace dictates, and with that particular situation, it was very awkward.

"It was like, you know what, we’ll donate that and they need the rest of the money that I got paid to do it too, because I, like everybody else, did the movie to make the movie with Ridley Scott. I took a substantial pay cut."

Laura Dern’s births directed by Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg was at the birth of Laura Dern’s children.

The 71-year-old director – who raises seven children with wife Kate Capshaw – formed a close bond with his ‘Jurassic Park’ actress after they were "buddied up" when a hurricane hit the Hawaiian island of Kaua’i, where they were filming the dinosaur blockbuster, and the experience made them become like "family" to one another.

Speaking to the new issue of Empire magazine, Laura said: "Going through an experience like that is life-altering. Steven and I were buddies through the hurricane – everyone got buddied up – and by the time the film finished, we were family. He and his wife were at the hospital when I gave birth. We’ve been at each other’s children’s celebrations and birthdays. Our friendship has meant the world to me."

Before the hurricane hit, Laura – who has children Ellery 16, and Jaya, 13, with ex-husband Ben Harper – and her co-stars were concerned they "might die" in the extreme storm.

Sam Neill – who played Dr. Alan Grant in the 1993 box office hit -recalled: "I remember being down the beach with Laura… We could see the storm approaching, like a pitch-black bit of sky heading over the horizon, coming straight for us. And Laura turned to me and said, ‘Do you think we might die today?’ Which I thought was a very sensible question. I thought about it for a bit and said, ‘You know Laura, we might just do that. We might just die today.’ The best approach, I thought, was to make light of it."

Despite the scary situation, the cast and director still had some fun during the storm.

Sam recalled: "That 48 hours in the hotel made us closer than ever. We lost power and water. We were up in Steven’s room, telling ghost stories and general bulls**t because all we had was a torch. That was a blast actually."

Oprah Winfrey donates 500k to March for Our Lives

Oprah Winfrey has pledged $500,000 to March for Our Lives.

The media mogul was inspired by the generosity of George and Amal Clooney and agreed to match their donation to the anti-gun violence cause, which was organized by the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting in Parkland, Florida, and will see children and families marching in the streets of Washington D.C. on March 24 to protest gun violence and mass shootings.

She tweeted: "George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to ‘March For Our Lives.’ These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard."

George And Amal – who made the donation in the name of their eight-month-old twins Ella and Alexander – revealed they are planning to march alongside those at the protest, after being moved by the students of Stoneman Douglas High School.

In a statement, the ‘Money Monster’ star said: "Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School. Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating 500,000 dollars to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children’s lives depend on it."

Steven Spielberg and producer Jeffrey Katzenberg have both reportedly donated $500,000 to the cause, while other stars who have raised awareness for the initiative include Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, and Morgan Freeman.

Instead of wedding gifts, ‘Trainwreck’ actress Amy Schumer asked for donations be made to Everytown for Gun Safety when she and Chris Fischer tied the knot last week.

Steven Spielberg had ‘inappropriate behaviour’ in his own company

Steven Spielberg once had a case of "inappropriate behaviour" in his own company.

The 71-year-old award-winning filmmaker has helmed more than 60 movies during his career – including blockbusters such as ‘Jaws’ and the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise – but Spielberg has revealed he had a case of sexual misconduct in his own company, which is now run by women.

Spielberg told the Guardian newspaper: "There was some inappropriate behaviour years and years ago inside my own company, which we dealt with and dismissed the person involved in that.

"But I’ve always had small companies with no more than 70 employees, and my companies have always been run by women.

"I find when companies are run by women, there’s less of a chance for men to get away with that kind of behaviour."

Spielberg also admitted that he knew the disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was a "bully".

However, the acclaimed director only learned about the sexual misconduct allegations facing Weinstein after the story broke.

He said: "I knew that he was a bully, and I knew that he was a very intimidating competitor. But I learned for the first time about sexual proclivities when I read the story by Ronan Farrow.

"I didn’t know because the sexual assault tsunami hadn’t happened yet. Of course it had been happening for decades and decades, but this particular 8.2 earthquake had not yet occurred.

"[I was] certainly aware of the existence probably all the way back to William Shakespeare’s time of the casting couch, and the prevalence of sexual abuse and sexual intimidation in the Hollywood of the 1920s, 30s and 40s."

Meanwhile, Spielberg recently backed Oprah Winfrey to become America’s next president.

Oprah delivered a rallying speech about sexual harassment during this year’s Golden Globes, and Spielberg subsequently suggested she should run for political office.

He said: "I think Oprah Winfrey would make an absolutely brilliant president. If she declares, I will back her.

"She’s been on the air for 35 years with all kinds of social outreach, building bridges between different ideologies and different points of view."

Steven Spielberg: Oprah Winfrey for president!

Steven Spielberg has backed Oprah Winfrey as America’s next president.

The 63-year-old media mogul has hit the headlines this week after a rallying speech she gave about sexual harassment during the Golden Globe awards caused speculation that she could enter into the political race for the White House in time for the 2020 election.

And now, director Steven Spielberg has thrown his support behind the ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ star, saying he would definitely back her if she decided to put herself forward as a candidate.

He said: "I think Oprah Winfrey would make an absolutely brilliant president. If she declares, I will back her.

"She’s been on the air for 35 years with all kinds of social outreach, building bridges between different ideologies and different points of view."

Steven added that Oprah would bring "empathy" to the White House, something which he believes is lacking in current president Donald Trump.

He continued: "I think we need a mindful, empathetic human being in the White House who understands people and puts people ahead of their own ideas of power and self-aggrandisement, and I think Oprah has already proved her capacity for selflessness."

And the ‘Jaws’ director doesn’t think her lack of experience will hinder her in any way, as he notes that Trump also had little political background when he became president.

When asked by The Guardian newspaper if he believed Oprah had the qualifications necessary to become president, Steven said: "Does our current president? I think she’ll learn on the job the same way Bill Clinton learned – a former governor of Arkansas – or Barack Obama, a junior senator, learned on the job. I’d much rather go for someone like Oprah Winfrey than a career politician."

In her powerful Golden Globes speech, Oprah spoke about press freedom, racism and sexual abuse before receiving a standing ovation with her closing words about the future.

She said: "I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon!

"And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again."

Mariah Carey attempted to charm spoilers from Kit Harington

Mariah Carey was reportedly "all over" Kit Harington at a Golden Globes after-party – in a bid to get him to reveal spoilers.

The ‘Hero’ singer cornered Kit – who plays Jon Snow in the hit HBO fantasy show – and tried all her charms of persuasion to find out what will happen in the final season.

An onlooker told The Sun newspaper: "Mariah was touching Kit’s arm and shoulder and they were talking really intensely for a while.

"She was wearing a really low cut dress and he was being very polite and looking her directly in the eye.

"Kit kept glancing around as if he couldn’t believe it. Everyone in the whole party was looking over at them.

"Mariah is clearly a huge ‘Game Of Thrones’ fan because she wouldn’t let him go. She was all over him.

"Everyone’s dying to know what happens in series eight, so nobody could blame her for asking for spoilers."

Mariah is known to be a big fan of the show, which bosses recently announced won’t air its final season until 2019.

Her ex-husband Nick Cannon revealed back in 2013: "Oh, my wife is into ‘Game of Thrones’! I’m not into it yet.

"She loves it. She’ll stay up late watching it."

Mariah attended the party with her current boyfriend, back-up dancer Bryan Tanaka.

Kit is engaged to fellow ‘Game Of Thrones’ star Rose Leslie, who did not attend the Golden Globes.

Earlier in the evening, Mariah was the one left blushing when she accidentally stole Meryl Streep’s seat at the awards ceremony.

The 47-year-old singer had to scramble to find somewhere to sit after heading out to the bathroom during a commercial break.

Finding a chair next to ‘The Post’ director Steven Spielberg was vacant, Mariah slid in – but was horrified when she noticed her error.

She wrote on Twitter: "Got caught mingling on the way to the loo during a commercial break.. took the first seat available, happens to be right next to Steven Spielberg.

"Cut to next commercial break, guess who comes back to her seat…

"(me) Dear Meryl, please forgive me!!!

(MERYL STREEP) You can take my seat any time! (sic)"

Steven Spielberg predcits female director nomination at Oscars

Steven Spielberg has predicted at least one woman will be nominated for a Best Director Oscar this year.

‘The Post’ filmmaker was responding to Natalie Portman’s dig at the Golden Globe Awards 2018 when she introduced the Best Director category by saying, "Here are all the male nominees."

Spielberg, 71, declared there was a "watershed" moment happening in Hollywood as he tipped Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins for a Best Director nod at the Academy Awards next month.

He told ‘Entertainment Tonight’: "There’s also a watershed happening right now, slowly, maybe not fast enough, for women directors. I mean you have Patty Jenkins. We have some amazing women that have come forward, you know [Dee Rees’] ‘Mudbound ‘and [Greta Gerwig’s] ‘Lady Bird’. This is a pretty incredible year, and I think you’ll be seeing some nominations. I’m predicting at the Oscars this year for a woman director, if not several."

Though ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Mudbound’ and ‘Lady Bird’ have been nominated and won awards in other categories, they are yet to be recognized for their female directors at any of the major awards ceremonies this year, including the recently announced BAFTA nominations.

Filmmaker Patty said of Natalie’s Golden Globes dig: "What could you say? It made me laugh, and it made me smile.

"Look, it’s been a little glaring that women directors don’t get nominated so often and it is odd. Particularly when their films are being celebrated in every other way, so I thought it was interesting to highlight it. And what a difficult category to present without saying something about it, so she did it so perfectly."

Katherine Bigelow was the first woman in history to win the Oscar for Best Director for ‘The Hurt Locker’ in 2010. She was only the fourth woman to be nominated in the category since the awards began in 1929 and no woman has been nominated since.
